  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

She was lauded as being a "Republican rising star" and "the youngest governor in the country."

I can think of many Republicans who would be more worthy of the honor.

Yes, she won the governor's race with 65% of the vote. Yes, she won against "a rocket scientist," a brilliant man with degrees in nuclear physics and a PhD in urban planning who had previously worked for NASA. Yes, she won against the director of Little Rock's "Innovation Center," a place where children could learn about technology and small business owners could receive valuable advice on how to help their business succeed.

But on the minus side, we must remember that if a Republican candidate is breathing in Arkansas, (s)he will win, even if (s)he is running against someone who is not only superbly qualified but also running a grass roots campaign visiting people all over the state and listening to their concerns. Her win is more an indictment of Arkansas voters than a demonstration of her "rising star" status.

She won by not mentioning her opponent's name, just talking about "Biden's Socialist Agenda" and other fantasies on television commercials. She missed two out of three debates and was completely overpowered by the Democratic and Libertarian candidates in the third.

As a matter of fact, the former Republican governor of Arkansas, Asa Hutchinson, a moderate who was president of the National Governor's Association who deftly protected Arkansas against the mad excesses of the legislators, would be a much better choice.

Hutchinson represents the future of the Republican Party, a party that is concerned with accomplishments rather than posturing.

What a perfect person to give the rebuttal of what will most likely be Biden’s multiple falsehoods. A former Presidential press Secretary who was harassed and body shamed by the left on a daily basis, who has risen to the highest office in her state.

you get a good indication she is doing well when they try to diminish her succes.

I’d be more impressed if she had become Governor of West Virginia where her family’s influence wasn’t so prominent in the state political landscape.
But yeah, she landed on her feet, and done good for herself, (and hopefully for the good people of Arkansas).

I don't see this as the future of the GOP, personally.

Looking forward to Sarah Sander's response. Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, but Sanders is probably better at soliciting donations from the angry.

She is a light weight compared to Adam Schiff and a mere shadow compared to Pelosi

Recent responders:
2022 Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds (an over-the-top book banner according to another thread in this post.
Problem solvers caucus--how refreshing. A NJ Democrat and PA Republican talk about bipartisanship. I hope they will be back on Tuesday.

Trump years: Democrats Joseph Kennedy III (I'm kind of sorry he ran for Senate too soon and lost in the primary to the incumbent.) Stacey Abrams (brains and passion and energy. Love her.) Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of MI (if conservative domestic terrorists tried to kidnap her, she must be doing almost everything right...)

Did he not have a SOTU message in 2017? Well, I sure didn't miss it.

2015 Sen. Joni Ernst (she has done a sensible thing or two occasionally, but she likes guns way, way, way too much.)
2016 Gov. Nikki Haley (took down the Confederate flag. Long may it (never) wave (again). )

Both Ernst and Haley were better choices than Reynolds and Sanders.

It was nice to see Kennedy arrogance backfire on one of them electorally. Finally, a Kennedy-free Congress.

Trump didn’t give a State of the Union in 2017. Traditionally the President doesn’t give one the year they are inaugurated. Their inauguration speech is usually considered to function as a de facto one. Biden didn’t give one in 2021.

(about Sarah Huckabee Sanders)

@Fantine and @hislegacy (and probably applicable to many others):
This is something that irritates me. To evaluate some politicians work by only nothing that “the other side” hates his/her work.
If the only achievement you both can mention is that “the other side” hates him/her (though, in this case two women) than that is the only achievement performed: irritating half of their constituency. An elected politician should be evaluated according to positive actions, good policies, improving people’s lives (preferably all people’s lives). Not just “the other side hates him/her".

So, did anyone watch her rebuttal?

"Sarah Huckabee Sanders was off on another world of culture war grievances from beginning to end. Much of her speech had no relation at all to what Biden was saying, but was geared toward promoting her brand. Good luck with that is all I can say. "The choice is between normal or crazy," she said. Obviously opinions will differ, but one side is promoting infrastructure with US-made products and the other is banning books from school libraries." Or interrupting the president's speech with shouting.

SHS said:
Democrats want to rule us with more government control, but that is not who we are. America is the greatest country the world has ever known because we are the freest country the world has ever known, with a people who are strong and resilient.
Two minutes later her Majesty:
Queen Sarah said:
Upon taking office just a few weeks ago I signed Executive Orders to ban CRT, racism, and indoctrination in our schools, eliminate the use of the derogatory term ‘Latinx’ in our government, repealed COVID orders and said never again to authoritarian mandates and shutdowns.
Oh! Lookie, she “banned” racism by decree!
