Gang violence accounts for most US mass shootings. And it's hard to tell groups of low income people to cut it out with the gangs. They don't seem to want to listen.

...I don't know if it's because there's not enough opportunities to gain wealth in the USA..? Or if that's just the style of life that's preferred by some.

But you legislate against the import, sale and usage of drugs. Is it your argument that just like guns, you should not legislate on drug control? No of course not - you would be so insane to say such a thing......so....legislate to control guns.

"Defund" is an unfortunate term in that it causes confusion. When people began using it (in my hearing, anyway) a couple of years back, I, too, thought it meant getting rid of the police. What it is is a reduction in funding with the balance going to other services. E.g., instead of sending the police to the house of someone suicidal, send someone trained for that situation ... and that requires funding.

It's not completely untrue. Just depends on how you define "mass shooting". The definition used by the Gun Violence Archive in your second link (any shooting in which 4 or more people are killed or wounded, not including the shooter) gets you the 705 mass shootings, and most of those are gang-related.

In your first link, they say there have only been 35 mass shootings - I believe the definition that that article is using is 4 or more killed, which does narrow things down quite a bit. I don't know if the motivation is clear for all of those shootings, but yes, a significant number of them could be classified as hate crimes. However, the article doesn't give those numbers - it only talks about racial and sexuality-based motivations in relation to killings in 2020

I can only assume according to the articles you provided, that of the 705 mass shootings, only 35 of them are hate based, and 670 are Gang violence, such as drive-by shootings, etc.

It's been pretty well-established that the vast, VAST majority of drugs coming through the southern border are coming through at official checkpoints. Border Patrol does not search every vehicle, and smugglers are forever finding new ways to conceal contraband. Very few of the millions of migrants apprehended between border crossing are carrying drugs, and they cannot carry all that much to begin with. A wall would do very little to slow down drug smuggling, and with guns being significantly heavier and bulkier than drugs, it would do even less to slow down any hypothetical arms smuggling.

Then, in that case, we would have armed gangs controlling the streets, and we would have gangs killing random people (revenge killings) just like the cartels do in Central and South America everytime the police make a "bust".

Essentially, we might be creating an even worse problem, where everyone is afraid of the armed gang members, with no way to stop them from running the streets and taking control of entire communities.

As it stands currently, gangs cannot control entire communities, because they might get shot at by an armed random citizen, considering that the citizens who are not gang affiliated, are currently armed equally with gangs. Tipping that balance might be a mistake, unless there's some way of accomplishing it that I'm not seeing.

And where is law enforcement in this hypothetical scenario? I really don't think that the only reason why gangs don't take control of entire communities is because they fear armed citizens.
