  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's not like Republicans didn't show up to vote....they did. Some obviously could not support the Trump candidate:

Take Maricopa County in Arizona. It’s home to Phoenix and around 70 percent of the state’s voters. Some Republicans say — without any clear evidence — they faltered in Arizona because some Maricopa voters were unable to cast ballots at the polls on Election Day, but the final turnout data shows that 75 percent of registered Republicans turned out, compared with 69 percent of Democrats. That was enough to yield an electorate in which registered Republicans outnumbered Democrats by nine percentage points. Yet Republicans like Mr. Masters and Kari Lake lost their races for Senate and governor.

Or consider Clark County in Nevada. There, 67 percent of Republicans voted, compared with 57 percent of Democrats, implying that Republicans probably outnumbered Democrats statewide. Yet the Democrat — Catherine Cortez Masto — prevailed in the Senate while Republicans won the governorship and also won the most votes for the House.

Everyone seems to forget that Arizona has a large group of "independent" voters. They favored the Dems.

Manchin (and Sinema) have faced backlash from their party for not going along with the party before, and biden has basically given Manchin a slap in the face when it comes to coal: Manchin unloads on Biden over coal plant comments

He could become just as disenfranchised and decide to distance himself from his party.
Manchin was critical is getting legislation through. The obvious example was infrastructure.

Manchin was critical as a punching bag for the progressives in the House, who wanted much more than even Biden wanted.

If Manchin didn't stand up to slow down the left, someone else would have. No one else was a critical in bi-partisan meetings.

Biden owes Manchin a lot.
=============
Let's be clear. Biden spent much more in the first COIVID bill than Obama did on Obamacare. And then there was infrastructure, climate and so much more. Manchin helped Pelosi keep the left from stopping lots of the laws, in cases where they want so many trillions more to be spent. In my lifetime, only Johnson enacted more critical legislation. In the last generation, there was Roosevelt. Like or dislike his policies (as Johnson or Roosevelt), but it will be clear that Biden made a huge difference in American life.

Yes, Trump influenced their vote almost as much as he did the Democrat turnout. In many states he even influenced Republicans to vote Democratic if they didn't vote for his candidate.

Kari, Kari, Kari....

"Former candidate for governor Kari Lake on Friday filed a lawsuit asking the courts to set aside her electoral loss to Democrat Katie Hobbs and declare her the winner instead.

If a judge won't declare her the winner, Lake wants an order requiring Maricopa County to re-do the gubernatorial election."

Is that all she wants? ^_^

Mark Finchem: “Our election is the only mid-term election in the 50 states with such a comical and tragic outcome.”
He got that right but not for the reasons he thinks.

.there are a bunch of Democrat Senators up for election in 2024....
On the Republican side, election deniers Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and Rick Scott will be running for reelection!

Republicans outnumbered Democrats by nine percentage points. Yet Republicans like Mr. Masters and Kari Lake lost their races for Senate and governor.
Not all Republicans approve of conspiracy theorists.

Mark, it's probably because you lost your election, and you lose so hard in court that you got sanctioned.
Trump predicted that Republicans would get tired of winning.

"A meaningful share of Republican voters showed up to the polls but spurned Lake. Statewide, she received nearly 120,000 fewer votes than did the victorious Republican candidate for state treasurer, Kimberly Yee, who stressed financial literacy and fiscal discipline on the campaign trail instead of conspiracy theories about the 2020 election. Nine percent of self-described Republicans went so far as to vote for Democratic nominee Katie Hobbs, according to exit polling. Independents broke for Hobbs by seven percentage points."

Colorado election results: Lauren Boebert wins re-election by 546 votes, recount confirms

The race was decided by 546 votes, fitting a pattern in the 2022 midterm elections when strong supporters of former President Trump finished with closer-than-expected margins or lost elections in swing districts.

Mark Finchem: “Our election is the only mid-term election in the 50 states with such a comical and tragic outcome.”
He got that right but not for the reasons he thinks.

"A judge Friday evening dismissed Rep. Mark Finchem's lawsuit seeking a do-over of the race for Arizona secretary of state and affirmed Adrian Fontes as winner of the Nov. 8 election.

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Melissa Julian issued her ruling eight hours after a hearing that veered from allegations of improper interference with social media platforms to unfounded claims about questionable vote tabulation machines to the prospect of disbarring Finchem's attorney for filing a frivolous lawsuit.

...
Finchem's lawsuit revolved around allegations of misconduct by current Secretary of State Katie Hobbs for allegedly failing to ensure the tabulation machines were properly approved by the federal Elections Assistance Commission, despite evidence provided to the court that shows the machines had such approval. Finchem also cited other alleged misconduct, suggesting that the late October suspension of his Twitter account was likely due to Hobbs' interference.

Julian rejected all of the misconduct allegations. "None of these alleged acts constitutes 'misconduct' sufficient to survive dismissal," she wrote.

Julian also granted a request from attorneys for Hobbs and Fontes for sanctions, giving them 10 days to file their demand."

Just to be clear, Boebert ended up winning only because her district is fairly solidly Republican, not a "swing district." It is also worth noting that Boebert faired poorly in her district compared to other Republicans, only one Republican did worse.

So she won because she got the most votes in a democratically-run election.
That's all we need to be clear about. At least, that's what I keep hearing through the MSM narrative.

Yes, I think we all agree that the majority of her constituents find Ms Boebert’s representation of their Congressional district adequate. Another big win for Democracy!

That’s right!
Gee, won’t it be great when the legislatures of the several states decide to just let the Governor select who will represent their state in Washington D.C., we’ll save bundles of $$$ without all of those silly elections!

What are you going on about now? Aren't you pleased that the candidate with the most votes won?

The judge in Maricopa County is providing an opportunity for Kari Lake to prove two of the ten allegations she made in her lawsuit...in court:

A judge declined Monday to dismiss Kari Lake's election challenge after oral arguments by attorneys, giving her a chance to try to prove her claims of misconduct by election officials.

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Peter Thompson tossed eight of the claims in Lake's lawsuit, but allowed two to remain that alleged an intentional plot by officials to manipulate the election in favor of Lake's Democratic opponent, Secretary of State Katie Hobbs. In two separate orders, he ruled that a two-day trial will take place before Jan. 2, and that Hobbs and County Recorder Stephen Richer would be required to testify as Lake wished.

Lake has "alleged intentional misconduct sufficient to affect the outcome of the election and thus has stated an issue of fact that requires going beyond the pleadings," the ruling stated. It continued that Lake must show at trial that the county's printer malfunctions were intentionally rigged to affect the election results, and that the actions "did actually affect the outcome."

Another Arizona MAGA candidate is done:

"A judge has thrown out Republican Abraham Hamadeh’s challenge of election results in his race against Democrat Kris Mayes for Arizona attorney general, concluding that Hamadeh didn’t prove the errors in vote counting that he had alleged.

The ruling on Friday by Mohave County Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen came after Hamadeh’s attorney, Tim La Sota, acknowledged his client hadn’t gained enough votes during his litigation to change the outcome of the race. Mayes finished 511 votes ahead of Hamadeh out of 2.5 million in one of the closest elections in state history.

“You haven’t met the burden,” Jantzen told La Sota shortly before ruling against Hamadeh."

And I look forward to seeing children being educated in something other than how to dress up like a drag queen.
Considering the the Republicans just elected the drag queen George Santos to Congress, I guess you'll have to keep waiting for that.
