  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I look forward to reviewing any and all legislation passed by Republican school boards.
And I look forward to seeing children being educated in something other than how to dress up like a drag queen.
Or being convinced that they don't know which sex they are.

I might be more direct. If Trump had kept out of the process of proposing and backing candidates, the Republicans had a much better chance of winning control of the Senate. And yes, the key competitive states were
NC
OH
NV
AZ
PA
GA
To gain control, the Republicans needed four. I don't think that it is hindsight to say that Trump's influence hurt their chances. They got two.

Even in GA, Trump might have privately suggested that he run, and then stayed away. Trump tried to mess with the races of governor, SOS and senate. He needed to just stay out. If Trump was never mentioned, and Walker supported Kemp throughout the process, Walker might very well have won in the general. He came very close. If Republicans had one more in the general. Walker would likely have won the runoff.
=======
But again, as in 2020, thank you Mr. Trump.

Conservative or liberal, sure, but this doesn't specify a school board win was "for the Republicans". I'm going to go with if the ballot doesn't have (D) or (R) by the candidate then it wasn't a win/loss for a party at all.

Now onto the things...

Many of them make it simple enough. If they say they'll support school choice,

School choice is an attempt to destroy public education. It might be right wing, but it does not conserve anything.

traditional values,

vague, but if they align to your "traditional values" this probably means teaching doctrine. (Let's break the establishment clause.)

teaching American history,

All American schools teach American history.

and keeping parents involved in the children's education,

Also pretty standard.
they're likely to be conservative.

Your list of "conservative" identifiers include two things found in all schools, a constitutional violation, and an attempt to destroy public education.

If they say they'll emphasis gender choice,
Gender isn't a choice. I know of no one (personally or otherwise) that chose their gender.
equity = liberal ? Given your previous statements on liberalism does that mean you think equity = bad? (Alrighty then.)
alternate history,
No school should be teaching Graham Hancock and his ilk.
and alternative lifestyle choices
Not sure how you "teach" this.
, they're likely to be liberal.

You have weird ideas about liberals.
No need to be partisan as in Republican or democrat when they run for school board. Their plans for office tell the story, and it's up to the voter to understand that.
To be a Republican win they need to actually be from the party. Teaching American history isn't enough to credit them.

(And I noted I didn't have access to any substantive information about the school board candidates.)

Republican or democrat, Conservative or liberal. Is it really the word that matters to you? I care more about the policies, and I stand with those who promote conservative ones. I know you disagree, so I'll save you the trouble of telling me that.

You were the one touting "Republican gains" in school boards. Pretty hard to do in non-partisan boards.

If the Right successfully takes control of Public Education they’ll eventually shut it down since they’re never get a majority to go along with their teaching-agenda, (mainly that “America is this Great Good that God created for the benefit of the World” and “Sure we had problems when everybody was racist, but that’s all over now.”

Huh.
Where?

In other words, the school boards won't need to change anything.

They might even go so far as to make reading, math, science, history, and technology a priority over drag-queen story hour, or trying to confuse young children about which sex they are. Wouldn't that be terrible?

I welcome the spectacle of the fight for Speaker. Someone will need to herd cats and secure an agreement that 218 sign on to.
As far as I can tell, the only agenda is to obstruct the Biden administration and hold spite investigations.

At least they've had 2 years of being shown how to do that.

Yep....

Of course, if the Republicans want to self-destruct in 2024, keep doing the same thing.....there are a bunch of Democrat Senators up for election in 2024....will the GOP go with more losing Trump candidates or run a qualified candidate?

It's not like Republicans didn't show up to vote....they did. Some obviously could not support the Trump candidate:

Take Maricopa County in Arizona. It’s home to Phoenix and around 70 percent of the state’s voters. Some Republicans say — without any clear evidence — they faltered in Arizona because some Maricopa voters were unable to cast ballots at the polls on Election Day, but the final turnout data shows that 75 percent of registered Republicans turned out, compared with 69 percent of Democrats. That was enough to yield an electorate in which registered Republicans outnumbered Democrats by nine percentage points. Yet Republicans like Mr. Masters and Kari Lake lost their races for Senate and governor.

Or consider Clark County in Nevada. There, 67 percent of Republicans voted, compared with 57 percent of Democrats, implying that Republicans probably outnumbered Democrats statewide. Yet the Democrat — Catherine Cortez Masto — prevailed in the Senate while Republicans won the governorship and also won the most votes for the House.

And in other news, Kari Lake and Mark Finchem's lawyers just got sanction over this:

Mark, it's probably because you lost your election, and you lose so hard in court that you got sanctioned.

What now?: Sinema’s defection from Dems sends shock waves through Hill

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona says she is switching her party affiliation to independent after months of harassment from leftists demanding her ouster in a 2024 primary, stunning the Senate after Democrats secured a 51-seat majority with a big win in Georgia.

Manchin should be next.

Why? Sinema was presumably facing a very tough primary battle, and the goal of this was to force the Democrats to not field anyone against her or risk splitting the field and losing. There is little indication that Manchin has much worry about his primary (the Democrats undoubtedly know he is their only chance at victory) and so there is little reason for him to go Independent.

Practically speaking this doesn't seem like it would do much in congress; she's still going to caucus with the Democrats (and lest anyone say "well she's no longer a Democrat, that's a difference, right?" keep in mind that Bernie Sanders isn't technically a Democrat). The only thing it seems like it would actually affect is the 2024 election if she opts to run again.

Manchin (and Sinema) have faced backlash from their party for not going along with the party before, and biden has basically given Manchin a slap in the face when it comes to coal: Manchin unloads on Biden over coal plant comments

He could become just as disenfranchised and decide to distance himself from his party.
