One subject that has had little attention in the last few years on CF is the Great Revivals.

Have you read about them ???

What lessons can we learn from them ???

Do they confirm that the gifts of the spirit are still in operation???

What are the barriers to such movements of God breaking out among the lost, and in the church today ???

If you read Jonathan Edwards' letters concerning the First Great Awakening, you will be surprised at the striking similarities of the youths in his day to ours. I would not be surprised if there will be a revival like the one that occurred in Whitfield and Wesley's ministries soon. The "New Lights" will begin with the youth, I know. A coming generation will arise to embark a repeat of history soon.

What can we learn/ That they are from God.
Gifts of the Spirit An interevent question, there are as many revivals where the gifts were scarce as those wher they majored.
The purpose of revival is the relationship between men and God.

Barriers. Revival always starts among Christians and moves out to nonchristians, so the barriers are ours.

Could you elaborate on a couple of those barriers?

Lessons to learn..from Revivals.
Revivals often started..
- in humble/unlikely places.
- with a few people..who were broken, praying/seeking..
- & went through..despisement & criticism.
- in Christian History.
Example:
'Azusa Street Revival'

I've tried looking for the quote that I read once in a Lion Handbook, but I never seem to be able to find it.

Basically it said that when there were major revivals (not local ones) it usually meant one of three things - national renewal where it resulted in widespread change for the better within a nation (eg. Welsh revival, Methodist revival); preparation for suffering; or the end of a civilisation (eg. the end of the Roman Empire, the end of Medieval Europe).

If we had a national revival in Australia for example, I think it could presage all three when I look at the state of the world right now - national renewal, preparation for suffering (nuclear war, climate change, massive national debts, the arms race), and the possible end of Western civilisation.

Could you elaborate on a couple of those barriers?
Reluctance to obey, reluctance to act, reluctance to believe.
What ever hidders ones Christian life and witness.

I heard about a church in Sweden where they started to pray every day, a lot. Was it that there was some people praying there constantly like prayer watch. Anyways people started to come to come there and the church started to grow fast. The whole neighborhood transformed.

To me it sounds like when people are serious about God and Jesus things start to happen. If a group of people deny themselves and look for Gods will it will have an effect.
