The King

When will there be a King? Who is the next in line? Is it Prince Charles?

Charles is next in line, then his son William.
As to when- well the Queen Mother was over 100 when she died, which would suggest her daughter may go on for many years yet!

There are some of us that hope our society will grow up and stop appointing a head of state merely because of birth before this monarch dies.

The other some of us like having a monarchy! For all that people say about Charles, he's not a bad guy, and I think he'll do alright.

Hmm but imagine what would happen if Charles decided to pass the throne to William he wont, he's been waiting for it too long!) and then if something happened to William. We'll have to hope the royal family has better prepared the second son this time!

There is really little point Charles becoming King, because in all likelihood, he will only be a King for a short while before William is crowned when Charles dies. Having said that, if I was in his position, I'd want my shot at being King. He'll have waited all his life for it.

True. He's only just finishing university. To become King soon would be to miss out on a lot of other opportunities.

To be born into that family is to miss out on a lot of rights and opportunities, the right to choose what work to do, the right to choose to avoid public office, the right to marry whoever you wish. It is not fair that someone should have their life mapped out for them just because of the family they are born into. Those born in poverty should have the opportunity to climb to the top of society even be head of state. Those born into the family of the head of state should have the right to choose how they live their life. If you agree that the above is just then you cannot support a monarchy it as unfair to the monarchs family as to the peasant's children.
