  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Loosing Angels?

Hi everyone,

A question- the bible says that whatever is bound on earth is bound in heaven, and whatever is loosed on earth will be loosed in heaven, and the scripture says that we can bind evil spirits. Can we also loose angels? If so we need to do it, we need as much angelic activity as we can get!

Actually the bible doesn't say that. Jesus gave his apostles the authority to "bind and loose", meaning to make decisions for the Church. In doing so he elevated them to a position of seniority. You can google "bind and loose" to see what it means.

They are just messengers to help us and obey the great I am and His word. So we know where the battle is but where how far does our authority go 2nd heaven 3rd heaven? We were giving authority 1st heaven.. I think :) its written the rest are GODS. When Daniel prayed and Gab came he said God heard him the moment he prayed and sent Gab but.. something (the enemy fallen angels) with stood him and he Gab had to call on Michael to come help. Never once ever have they had to ask man to come help them :)

I ask the Father to send blah blah blah for I do not command nor just talk chat with them

My personal opinion angelic activity never ceased. And they actually may be doing more for us than we will ever know _ especially for those who are in the will of God, but also for mankind as a whole. As an example: One could be about to die in a car wreck before their time but God's angel steps in and saves them.
5 bizarre accidents that people survived against all odds
Or a child is lost in the woods where there are wild animals for days and miraculously survive.
Three-year-old boy missing in woods for two days says friendly bear kept him safe
There are stories of impossible survival, even some actually say an angel helped them.

I believe many, many are still here, there are just certain things they cannot do any longer - unless ordained by God. Who knows they may have stopped a nuclear holocaust that we don't even know about, preventing man from destroying himself before God's appointed time of judgment.
But to bind or loose angels - man does not have that authority. Our Lord, our God is the only one that can bind or loose any angel or give power to his Angels to bind.

It's actually this:
Matthew 16:19 and Matthew 18:15-18

Versus this:
Revelation 7:2 And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the Earth and the sea,

Revelation 9:15 And the four angels were loosed which were prepared for an hour and a day and a month and a year, for to slay the third part of men.

Revelation 14:18 And another angel came out from the altar which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the Earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.

Revelation 16:1 And I saw another sign in Heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.

Be careful what you wish for?

Depending on your interpretation, bind and loose means conferring the forgiveness of sins.

I do not think you can command angels to do anything. You can ask God to surround you with his holy angels and his holy light, but that is all. We all have a guardian angel.

Blessings

This is sometimes called the Office of the Keys or the Power of the Keys. It's the authority Jesus gives to His Church, as His ambassadors, to proclaim forgiveness or withhold forgiveness.

This is our Lord's promise to His Church: "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you. Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld."

Although this is a descriptive text, a recorded history, and not a prescriptive text, we can know from other Bible passages that this is God's gift to His whole Church, not just His disciples. For in Christ, we have peace with God and we are graciously given the Holy Spirit, and we become the ambassadors of Christ to proclaim the Gospel. So, this is to say, we are called to proclaim God's forgiveness to those who repent, but to withhold the Gospel from those who refuse to repent.

In practice, this is what the historical church bodies call Confession and Absolution, and since late New Testament time, we find this practised both publically and privately. And although throughout history, there has been a lot of debate about to whom our Lord grants this authority, at its heart, the idea is the same: God, in His great love and mercy, promises to forgive us in many ways, and one of these ways is through His people. Likewise, He also grants repentance through His people, by means of His Word.

So to put this very simply: When I grew up as a Pentecostal, I used to think Confession was something entirely man-made and contrary to the Bible. However, to my shame, it's taught very plainly in John 20, and properly understood, it's really a matter of repentance and faith. And to your question, while this passage is not about angels or demons directly, it does have indirect applications. However, I think this is easiest understood to be about comforting people who are burdened with sin with the peace of Christ, and withholding the peace of Christ from those who reject Jesus.

God bless!

I don't think that passage should be understood in that light. I could be wrong, but it refers to apostolic authority in the Church.

I have been loosing angels for at least a week or so and it definitely works! I bind the evil spirits in my parent's housing development and then loose angels every day and since I started doing that the atmosphere in my parent's house has improved dramatically, there used to be an extremely evil presence there all the time but the other night I was there again and it was almost completely gone! This is going to help my parents, they may start feeling better and might even snap out of being unitarian with that spirit gone! I have also started loosing angels in my apartment complex and the atmosphere here has improved as well. There is also another apartment complex in town that I am thinking about moving into and I have started praying for the complex, I go down there every day and pray, bind the evil spirits, and then loose angels. At first there was also an evil presence there but it has now completely left!

"Bind and loose" is used by the high priests when declaring laws. It represents authentication from God.

When Jesus mentioned "bind and loose", it means authentication is formally given to God's earthly Church. It more or less says, authentication goes to Christians once the Jews/Judaism failed to do their job.

You are referring to the Keys of the kingdom. There are several different ideas about this, historically. But it is generally comprehended with Christ granting His apostles the authority to forgive sins (John 20:21-23). As in Matthew 16 Jesus is speaking to Peter (and to the apostles broadly).

In Lutheranism, my own tradition, we understand the Keys to be the possession of the entire Church, but that the exercising of the Keys is vested in called and ordained ministers (aka pastors) for the sake of good order in the Church (1 Corinthians 14:33). Which is why, historically, pastors (bishops and presbyters) are those whom the Church vests with preaching the word and administering the Sacraments, including the proclaiming of forgiveness of sins through Confession and Absolution.

This isn't about individual Christians acting as rogue agents going around doing what they want, but rather the Body of Christ acting in unity through God's ordered means. So the Church binds and loosens through the pastoral ministry of Word and Sacrament: We sin and if we are without remorse and repentance, the Law is preached which shows us our naked sinfulness and need of repentance; and the grieving sinner is likewise comforted with the sweet and soothing words of the Gospel: that they are forgiven, freely forgiven on Christ's account. Through the sacred ministry of the Church God's word is preached and the Sacraments are administered; and here in these our entire Christian life is given substance as the Holy Spirit Himself works to sanctify and heal us and as we are called to lives of daily discipleship by taking up our cross and following Jesus.
