  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Romans 9:20 But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God?
Will the ‘thing formed’ [G4110=plasma] say to Him
who formed [G4111=plasso] Why have you made me like this?

Paul here is not making reference to the creation of man in Genesis,
or the creation of the nation of Israel. This is the regeneration of the
spirit of man, as spoken by the prophet.

Zechariah 12:1 The burden of the word of the Lord against Israel.
Thus says the Lord, who stretches out the heavens, lays the
foundation of the earth, and forms [G4111=plasso, VXX]
the spirit of man within him.

***************************************************

Romans 9:
21
Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same
lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?
22 What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His
power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels
of wrath prepared for destruction,
23 and that He might make known the riches of His glory on
the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory,
24 even us whom He called, not of the Jews only,
but also of the Gentiles?

Paul makes reference to the prophet, while conveying his words
upon all the nations of man.

Habakkuk 1:12 Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God,
mine Holy One? we shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them
for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established
them [plasso, VXX]
for correction.

The prophet also speaks of the spiritual regeneration
to come with the restoration of Israel.

Jeremiah 33:
2
Thus says the Lord who made it, the Lord who
formed [plasso] to establish, the Lord is His name;
3 Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and
mighty things, which you do not know...
6 Behold, I will bring health and healing; I will heal them
and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.
7 And I will cause the captives of Judah and the captives of
Israel to return, and will rebuild those places as at the first.
8 I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which
they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their
iniquities by which they have sinned and by which they
have transgressed against Me.

The prophet confirms that this is the work of the Savior
Isaiah 53:11 BST The Lord also is pleased to take away
from the travail of his soul, to show him light, and
to form [plasso] with understanding; to justify the just one
who serves many well; and he shall bear their sins.

As the nation of Israel is the work of the Lord in the natural,
so the Messiah forms “the spirits of just men made perfect”,
which is His Bride.

Isaiah 44:
21
Remember these, O Jacob, and Israel, for you are My servant;
I have formed you [plasso], you are My servant; O Israel,
you will not be forgotten by Me!
22 I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, and
like a cloud, your sins. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.
23 Sing, O heavens, for what the Lord has done! Shout, you lower
parts of the earth. Break forth into singing, you mountains; O forest,
and every tree in it! For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, and glorified
Himself in Israel.
24 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer,
He who formed you [plasso] from the womb:
I am the Lord, who makes all, Who stretches out
the heavens all alone, Who spreads abroad the earth by Myself.

This is the metaphor of the potter and the clay as
a motif used frequently by the prophets.

Notice it means earthen vessel
It is used as an earthly metaphor to convey
spiritual truth. I am not conveying the
earthly, but the spiritual; the heavenly,
as is clearly laid out in the OP. What I
receive from above by the Spirit in my
morning devotions, I present. If you
cannot receive, that is okay.
John 3:31 He who comes from above is above all;
he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth.
He who comes from heaven is above all.

These sentiments you have posted above all cause me to rejoice in the Christ, and also in the Wisdom of HIM who has set all things in motion for His perfect pleasure.

The sentiments also remind me to Love others as myself and to see others as me, had I lived in their shoes. In other words, as a creature subject to vanity, I sometimes forget that I would be the same as someone else had I grown up as they have, and experienced what they experienced. Righteousness is by grace through faith. All things work to good for those who Love God. Thanks for the edification.

Thank you for such a well thought out response.
Blessed in the receiving.
2 Corinthians 4:
6
For it is the God who commanded light to shine
out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give
the light of the knowledge of the glory of God
in the face of Jesus Christ.
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels,
that the excellence of the power may be of God
and not of us.

"The Spirit of Unity in the Bond of Peace"
Ephesians 4:
3
Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit
in the bond of peace....
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith,
and of the knowledge of the Son of God,
unto a perfect man, unto the measure of
the stature of the fullness of Christ.
14 That we henceforth be no more children,
tossed to and fro, and carried about with
every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men,
and cunning craftiness, whereby they
lie in wait to deceive;
15 But speaking the truth in love, may
grow up into him in all things,
which is the head, Christ:
16 From whom the whole body fitly joined
together and compacted by that which every
joint supplies, according to the effectual working
in the measure of every part, making an increase
of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Paul here is not making reference to the creation of man in Genesis,

spirit of man, as spoken by the prophet.

actually it is from Jer 18

5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 6 “Am I not able, house of Israel, to deal with you as this potter does?” declares the Lord. “Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, house of Israel. 7 At one moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to uproot it, to tear it down, or to destroy it; 8 if that nation against which I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I planned to bring on it. 9 Or at another moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to build up or to plant it; 10 if it does evil in My sight by not obeying My voice, then I will relent of the good with which I said that I would bless it. 11 So now, speak to the men of Judah and against the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, ‘This is what the Lord says: “Behold, I am forming a disaster against you

The clay pot cannot say to the Potter "why did you make me into a pot?"

The clay pot cannot say to the Potter "why did you make me into a pot?"
Also,
Isaiah 64:8 But now, O Lord, You are our Father;
We are the clay, and You our potter;
And all we are the work of Your hand.

The OP is pointing out Paul's POV, and also that
he uses the same word employed in the VII, for
the scriptures quoted, especially Zech 12:1, clearly
a spiritual forming.
He describes the forming of the church
the same way
the Torah was meant to forge a nation under God.
Praise God we have a more sure word of prophesy.

Jeremiah 18 is no doubt the most well-known, and
anyone familiar, such as yourself, would have

no difficulty making the connection to Romans 9.
I am glad that you brought it up, of course.
James
