There is a particular sin that I have been addicted to for many years and am doing it much less nowadays. And I put myself on the corrective action plan in which I would go for a month without committing this sin and reward myself. And I seem to have been doing fine for a while but then I find myself slipping into the sin. I have prayed to God to help me overcome it but I haven't overcome it(not yet anyway). Sometimes I just don't feel like there's any hope for me overcoming this sin.

One of the biggest problems is remembering your sins. Christ told us to be on guard. We need to stay aware and be watching for temptations and don't give into our flesh when temptations arise. I know it is hard but each of us in the faith need to help each other and encourage each other. This really is one of the greatest strengths of fellowship. Jesus puts down sin in our own bodies by way of His Spirit. So by the Name of Jesus Christ we can overcome sin. But that means we must be working towards emulating Him. Keep yourself in memory of the sufferings Christ endured for us on the Cross and by that memory arm yourself with all the defenses of the Holy Spirit and you will be successful against all sins.

1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

God is faithful and is providing you a way of escape. Look for it.

Try try again. Deep down, I know that I will overcome this just like how when I was stuck with other issues I knew deep down I would solve those problems and I did. But I suppose being upset about it right now isn't going to solve any issues.

as long as you are struggling against it you should be encouraged, that means the Holy Spirit is still leading you. The best way to fight sin is to be close to God. What does your prayer life look like? Do you read the scriptures often? Jesus resisted the devil by quoting scriptures (Ps 119:11) When temptation comes we cry out to God and he gives us a way to escape 1 Corinthians 10:13

But if we are not being constant in prayer, scripture, and communion with God we can expect little to no victory over sin.

I make it a habit to pray before every meal. One thing I need to work on is praying better. I've asked God to give me the strength to resist this sin and I think I just got involve too much in temptation when I was just lying around with Idle Hands on the couch I was tired. And Idle Hands Are The Devil's Playground. That's why I must get up and get busy.

I must work on that more. I generally read(or listen to) the scripture a little each day

well as long as it is you trying in your own power, you will fail. Thats what the problem with the Law was. The Law is good, but it never had the power to change people. It only reminded us how weak we really are, how much we need God to help us. The harder people tried to follow it, the more it reminds them they cant. So ask God to help you by birthing the desire in you to pray more, to read the scriptures more, to be closer to him. Ask Him that as often as you can remember to. Its all about our perspective.

Romans 7 details this exact thing you are struggling with. Wanting to do good but not being able to. Paul finishes it by saying in Romans 7:24-25 that the answer is found in Jesus. He goes on in Romans 8 to detail the victory. Romans 8:2-3 says that we are powerless because our flesh is weak, but the Spirit is what gives the victory (Galatians 5:16-25). In Romans 8:5-8 Paul says the battle is largely in our minds. Those who think on the flesh, who dwell on earthly things are dominated by the flesh. Those who are led by the Spirit dwell on things of the Spirit. (Colossians 3:1-2)
This is why Paul goes on in Romans 12:1-2 to tell us not to conform to the world but be transformed by RENEWING our minds. We renew our minds by dwelling on heavenly things (Philippians 4:8) not esrthly. this applies to all things. Music, TV, etc. I will pray for you!

Abba, grant this child of yours the desire, the overwhelming thirst for your righteousness. May they be ever in prayer and the scriptures so they may know you and be near you! Amen.

Beloved one, you can’t rely on your own strength to overcome sin, for no one overcome sin by their own strength.

Have you not heard what has been written:
May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace! -Psalms 29:11

I ask you why the Lord has to give strength to His people? Why the Lord has to bless His people with peace ?

Beloved one, the Lord gave us His strength that we may keep His words, for we are His people. And He blessed us with peace in keeping His words.

Beloved one, seek the Lord’s strength continuously.

For we heard:
Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually! -Psalms 105:4

If you seek the Lord’s strength continually, you will have the strength continually to resist sin.

Beloved one, make peace with God by seeking His strength. If you seek, you will find.

To God the Father be all glory and thanksgiving through Christ. Amen.

Satan prowls around ready to steal, kill and destroy God's chosen ones we have to put on the whole armor of God. Ephesians 6:10-15
The closer you draw nearer to the Father the worse the attacks are be ready.

Your rebirth has broken your addiction to the enslavement of sin but your mind still remembers the pleasures and profits of sin. These are eradicated from our desires and will by our training in righteousness as described in Hebrews 12:5-11, by painful discipline, one actual word for which is to be scoured, hung on a rack and flogged with the cat of nine tails, v6 I think.

The high road in this life would be to embrace this discipline, to accept it as a necessary part of your sanctification or to even seek it, to ask for it to scour sin from your choices but if you should accept this mission Jim, be prepared to hang onto your hat! :)

I'm NOT talking about self flagellation or self punishments but the vagaries of life that you will come to know as chastisements for wrong decisions. The low road is to ignore them until you are on the rack, a self made disaster.

This is His method for sanctification - embrace it.
