  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, clearly Biden is the only one who needs to do something. Forget about Putin ending the war, no, Biden is at fault here.
We're on the edge of World War, if Putin takes Ukraine he will not stop.

I'm all in favor of supplying Ukraine with whatever they need (and it would be nice if certain other countries would step up, too), but Putin hasn't got the forces to take Ukraine, much less NATO.

Take? Maybe, maybe not. Deffinetly not with the way they are fighting.

Hold? No.

Ukraine for the most part is very flat. The war will be won or lost with aircraft and missiles.
So are you saying the President should bypass Congress and just send more never mind the cost?

It takes a great deal of training, maintenance and money to use and purchase sophisticated weapons like missiles and aircraft.

Also the political side of drawing a line. US delivers cruise missiles to Polish side of Ukrainian border with pre locked coordinates for Kremlin. Ukrainian farmer drags the missiles over the border with his tractor and pushes the button to send missiles for Moscow.

Technically nothing different from sending an anti-tank weapon across the border. Practically.....

Same thing with aircraft. Sell some F - 22s for price of one ruble with few volunteer pilots who just happened to get fast citizenship from Ukraine. Hardly different from Russian "volunteers" in Donbass but
how fast would that escalate ?

It is a balancing act. You can't just do whatever you want or could do without Russia deciding it is actually a WW III.

In the absence of either side controlling the air, the war is currently being won or lost with armor, drones, and heavy artillery.

Is this that “America first” policy I hear so much about?

I'm kinda suspecting that it is, whenever it's more convenient.
Oh, and Ukraine has said now that they've got 20 more aircraft in use now, thanks to parts from the US. So... I assume I'll hear Valletta thank Biden for doing what they wanted him to do?

I think we are going to see Putin apologizing for the war and boarding his plane for appearance on ICC at Hague before we hear Valletta thanking Biden.

I'm sure that "not enough military aid" will turn into "too much military aid" at some point.

I understand your point. My point is that as long as Russia dictates the terms of the war, telling countries that if they do this or that the war will escalate, Russia will continue the war and it will spread to other countries.

How is it going to spread to other countries? Under the present terms of the war, Russia has already suffered a major defeat and is experiencing depletion of its combat forces at a ferocious rate. And that's without the sharp increase in heavy weaponry -- artillery and armor -- that the Ukrainians are receiving now.

Russia is still allowed to sell oil, Joe won't let our fossil fuel establishment supply Europe. We are not supplying Ukraine with the aircraft and defense systems they need. Joe won't ramp up the mid level nuclear weapons sending a message to Putin that he can use them without retaliation.

Joe released another 800 million dollar in armaments yesterday including
"72 155mm howitzers and the tactical vehicles to tow them, along with 144,000 artillery rounds."

....and drones that the USAF specifically developed to say hello to the Russian front:

120 Phoenix Ghost Tactical Unmanned Aerial Systems — drones that the U.S. Air Force developed “in response, specifically, to Ukrainian requirements,” according to Kirby. Later in the day, he said the drones had actually been “developed for a set of requirements that very closely match” the Ukrainians’ needs for operations in Donbas.

“Its principal focus is attack,” he said.

...and Joe's Pentagon has been rather busy...don't ya think?

After weeks of focusing on antitank and antiaircraft weaponry like Javelins and Stingers, the new shipments over the last week have included long-range artillery, tactical vehicles and mobile radar systems to help the Ukrainians detect and destroy Russian artillery positions.

Other countries are sending tanks, more artillery and anti-ship missiles.

General Milley’s phone log this week looks like a roll call of countries with heavy artillery and weaponry: Australia, Britain, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and Turkey.

Next Phase of War Will Be Pivotal for Russia and Ukraine, U.S. Says
