  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Modern day systemic racism, does it exist?

Black Americans. Different than being a white American in a systemically racist society
Its not systemically racist. If it was racist why are Asians doing better than black Americans?

well I think government contracts that are set aside exclusively for minority companies is definitely a form of systemic racism.
We don't talk about how the system actually helps black americans instead of oppressing them. That doesn't fit the "white man bad" narrative

Section 8 doesn't but landlords do

THere are limited choices in highrise houseing. You get placed where you get placed many times

Racist landlords have nothing to do with systematic racism. There’s nothing in the government system that’s causing the landlords to make that decision.

Japanese, Korean. Chinese, Viet, , Filipino same.
Light good, dark bad.

My wife is Filipino and wants her skin to be whiter, I love her tan skin color and tell her most women here in America would kill to have her skin tone. Just for the record I’m Caucasian

I am new to this thread, having taken a break from CF recently. I am unsure how to respond to this loaded question. Yes, there is racism. Is there systematic racism, that is much more difficult to discern. Having said that, the Harvard case is without a doubt an example of Asians losing spots at Harvard, even though they have the highest test scores in the country and we all know that they do. Look in the papers or online and you will see far more #1 and #2 members of high school classes being Asian Americans, than they are as a percentage of the population. It also saddens me deeply that we have had an uptick in violence against Asian Americans in recently, apparently due to the virus coming from China.

Now, it is true that when young white girls go missing, especially beautiful blonde girls, the press seems to give these cases more attention. However, I do not know what we can do about this.

The biggest problem with racism today is people being racist using the excuse of fighting racism. Racism is falsey associating attributes to people based on their race, or more broadly, the color of thier skin. This is wrong regardless of the race of the accuser or the race of the accused. People should be judged on the content of their character or by their actions. For example, a person is a thief because they stole. They are not a theif because of their race. They are a theif because of what they did.

If some white/brown/other skin person did something that was motivated by their hatred of somebody else's race does that mean that I am guilty of thier crime because my skin is white/brown/other also?

This is a very dangerous and wrongful way to look at things. Unfortunately we see this kind of thinking promoted loudly in politics and media and classrooms.

But why?

I believe this is intentional manipulation. The purpose is to harm the social fabric and destroy a sense of a unified national identity. We should be a melting pot where not race but ideals, enshrined in the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, are what unifies us.

Instead the promoters of this way of thinking are sowing disorder, distrust, hatred and even violence among people. It is unfortunate they have been so successful.
