  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Imagine if you had lived a few decades ago, and brought that same "can-do (but won't)" attitude to the Polio discussions...

There is something different about this virus. It’s not just the virus; it’s the era we’re living in, the tragic bias, fear, and inconsistency in our media, our increasingly hostile and polarized ways of interacting with each other, and our crumbling grasp of right and wrong.

There is a far more intensely social dimension to this. I don’t think we’ve yet seen what this will become. But ultimately, it has nothing to do with the virus. I think we’ll all see that once it’s too late.

I don’t expect everyone on here to grasp what I’m saying, or agree. But something is happening here behind and alongside a viral crisis. It goes deeper than physical illness. But physical illness is an amazing cover.

I find this response non-sequester to my comment. It seemed you did not understand why the vaccinated would care about the choice of another to be vaccinated. I listed some of the effects the unvaccinated are having on the rest of us. I agree we will be living with this virus for a long time. Why should hospital workers have to live this way simply because people refuse to get vaccinated? Do you know what they are going through right now in some states? I know a lot of workers who are in daily turmoil wondering it their workplace will be shut down again, and unemployment extensions have ended. At this point, the only reason this is happening is unvaccinated people.
Some hospital workers themselves are declining the vaccine.

So the solution is utter and abject surrender? Pass.

The solution is wisdom, care, discretion, and not allowing fear to dictate how we treat one another. The solution is to give ourselves permission to make careful, wise decisions for ourselves, and give others the grace to do the same.

Unfortunately, fear and hate have been useful political tools for far too long, and the powers that be are not about to suggest abandoning their most useful tools.

And careful, wise decisions can only be made with careful, wise information... and among other things, you were blaming the media for not providing it.

I’m well aware, we have that problem in southern Oregon where COVID is out of control. They are a huge part of the problem.

Government tyranny usually comes in a nice-looking package. Usually something all-inclusive-sounding like, "Public Health". It wouldn't sell otherwise.
Government tyranny like forcing you to wear a seatbelt.
Chemo is not a vaccine.
Come on man!
Protip....vaccines get boosters too.

Using a word like "tyrant" against someone putting your seatbelt or mask on or even getting a vaccine, is an insult to North Koreans, Zimbabweans under Mugabe, and numerous other people who suffer.

So to be clear:
You DEFINITELY agree that a woman should have the right to an abortion right?

When people in America are prevented from participating in the most basic activities in society such as grocery shopping or earning a living just because they didn't get the latest jab recommended by a federal government agency, it certainly isn't freedom. The word tyranny fits better.

Stop. They are not prevented. They are CHOOSING TO EXCLUDE THEMSELF FROM A SOCIETAL EXPECTATION.
You can't go into McDonald's without a shirt on but no one calls McDonald's a tyrannical restaurant.

Why do you deceive the people?

The highest per capita COVID deaths are in Florida:
States ranked by COVID-19 death rates: Sept. 3
This is for the last seven days, they are 18th if you look at the whole epidemic. For evaluating current policy, current numbers make sense. Totals for the whole period are harder to interpret because of the many changes both in the situation and policies. For the whole thing NJ is first, but a lot of that is that the area around NYC was hit first. I think you can criticize NJ and the rest of the NYC area for being a week or two late in response at the start.

See andhere's the solution:
Put your faith in science and your TRUST in God.

The TRUE problem is thta people don't understand how science works and people who are living in "fear" do not do well with "changing information"; this is part of the human condition. Unfortunately, in a global pandemic, those two things go hand in hand 100% of the time.

There is no trust that scientists want this disease to stop and people don't undersatnd that changing information, by the time it is released, is BETTER information because it is based on new and better research. Sadly, in times of "Fear" when information is changed, people who clung to that information don't always do well with having to change boats midstream.

Well bodily autonomy.

Or that doesn't count cause it's just a woman?

I regret that you view them as "just a woman".

Oh I don't! I had assumed you did.

I think they are individuals who should have FULL BODILY AUTONOMY!

What are your thoughts on that?

I fully agree! Therefore, they should not be forced into getting Covid injections, and should not be restricted from societal activities for that decision.
In the interest of equality, the same freedom of bodily automomy should be given to men as well.
