  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I got a better look at this compared to what I was seeing on my phone. I see it's yet another Seventh Day Adventist article. I do not expect the SDA to present a fully comprehensive unbiased report on this subject.

THE LORD’S DAY” OF REVELATION 1:10 IN THE CURRENT DEBATE (linked)
Prove it. How can you make those claims Brian without even reading the published paper linked above? It is clear from your response that bias or lack of being fully comprehensive is not in the published paper above as all arguments have been provided there if you had taken the time to read it instead of simply trying to dismiss it.

The paper is more than the Greek Word sis. Have a read. Unlike our brothers claim it is a comprehensive review of all the arguments and claims from all sides in regards to the claims of what the Lords day is. I do not normally read these papers but stumbled across it today and after reading found it very interesting to understand the debate from all sides of the argument in regards to the claims of what "the Lords day" is.
I read bits of it earlier and it was going into detail the biblical Greek definition of how the Lords day was used in Revelations. I will add it to my reading list this evening when I have uninterrupted time.

Yes I need to spend some more time on it as well as there is a lot of good information in there that I was not aware of in regards to all the arguments used on all sides of "the Lords day" debate. I need to spend some more time on it as well as I only found it by accident this afternoon my time.

I don't see in the scriptures you posted that say the first day is the holy day of the Lord and we are to worship God on the first day now. If Jesus was going to break a commandment of God or change it He would of said something about the change. Jesus kept the Sabbath Luke 4:16 as our example and Sunday worship is not mentioned in scriptures. You are ignoring plain scripture by our Creator and Savior

Exodus 20: 8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Isaiah 58:13 “If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, From doing your pleasure on My holy day, And call the Sabbath a delight The holy day of the Lord honorable, And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways,
Nor finding your own pleasure, Nor speaking your own words, (how can you possibly argue the Lord's day is the first day when this makes it so clear which is the Lords day)

Mark 2:28 28 Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”

There is no scripture telling us Sunday is the Lords day or God’s new holy day. Which is why the Sabbath will continue for eternity to be God’s chosen day and not the first day. Isaiah 66:23
What makes me sad is when people who claim to be Christians argue endlessly about the day on which Christ rose from the dead and replaced Melchizedek as the new High Priest, thereby beginning the Christian dispensation, and the dawning of a new day in which we all now live, that began on the First day of the week.

Yes, I would love that. @HIM @BobRyan might want to join in as I know they also enjoy research papers. Thanks again for finding this article.

I am not denying Christ rose on the first day. Jesus rested on the seventh day and went back to His Fathers work on the first day. Jesus never transferred the day of worship and a commandment of God when He died otherwise He would of said something. What makes me more sad is when people try to read into scripture to fit a tradition instead of going by God’s authority and obeying Gods commandments over traditions of man. Jesus warned us about this Matthew 15:3-9 and told us we should obey God’s commandments Mathew 5:17-20. Jesus also gave this warning when we do not keep God’s laws:

Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Keeping God’s laws is how Jesus knows us. God wrote His will, the Ten Commandments on stone and that is why the Ten Commandments is stored in the Most holy of God’s Temple. People don’t seem to realize what is at stake. Just like the days of Noah, our time on this earth is short. Jesus wants us to worship Him in Truth and Spirit. Why so many people think its not important to keep the holy day of the Lord thy God that God started from Creation Genesis 2:1-3 and will continue for eternity as promised by our Savior Exodus 31:16, Isaiah 66:23 according to Jesus and God it is important. I am going with God’s Word over tradition we will all have to make that choice. God bless

Hi Ian what should make us sad is all those who will be lost because they knowingly choose to follow man-made teachings and traditions that break the commandments of God over the very Word of God himself (Matthew 15:3-9). According to the scriptures God's people are in every Church *John 10:16 living up to all the light that God has revealed to them through his Word (James 4:17). The hour is coming and now is according to Jesus that the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth. God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth *John 4:23-24. According to the scriptures BABYLON has fallen away from Gods Word *Revelation 14:8; Revelation 18:1-5. In times of ignorance when we do not know any better God winks at and does not hold us accountable for sin *Acts of the Apostles 17:30-31 but when God gives us a knowledge of the truth of His Word calls all men everywhere to believe and follow what His Word says. According to the scriptures at this point if we choose to reject Gods' Word in order to continue in known unrepentant sin there remains no more sacrifice for sin but a fearful looking forward to of the judgement to come *Hebrews 10:26-31. According to the scriptures under the new covenant, God's 10 commandments have the same role they always have and that is to give us the knowledge of good (moral right doing) and evil (moral wrong doing); sin (moral wrong doing) and righteousness (moral right doing) *see Romans 3:4; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4; Psalms 119:172 and if we break anyone of them we stand guilty before God of sin *James 2:10-11. This of course includes Gods 4th commandment (Exodus 20:8-11) which is also one of God's 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken. There is not one scripture in all of Gods' Word that says Gods 4th commandment has now been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a holy day of rest just the same as there is not a single scripture that says "the Lords day" is Sunday or the first day of the week. These are both man-made teachings and traditions of men that have led many to break God's 4th commandment and led many away from God and His Word. God is calling us all where ever we might be back to His Word. Sadly many will be called according to the scriptures but only the few will be the chosen *Matthew 22:14. This is what we should all be really sad about. Who should we believe and follow God or man. This is the test and the question that is coming to all of us. Gods' sheep hear His voice (the Word) and follow Him according to the scriptures those who do not hear will not follow because they are not His sheep *John 10:26-27.

God bless.

The days of creation lasted millions of years. The seventh day, which is the day of the Lord, is eternal, when all those who believe will rest in him.
No one has rest in Christ by breaking Gods commandments. According to the scriptures the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. - Isaiah 57:20

.
No, it is literal days God created earth. There are two different rests and we do not receive the rest in Christ when we disobey the commandments of God which includes the 4th commandment. Not sure why people think they receive the blessing of God by disobedience. The Bible I read talks a lot about obeying God throughout scriptures.

Jesus did not do his own work of carpentry on the Sabbath he did God's work and taught us to do good on the Sabbath *Matthew 12:1-12. It is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.

Sunday is a teaching and tradition of men that has no basis in the scriptures. Can you show me a scripture that says Gods' 4th commandment of the 10 commandments have been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a holy day of rest? - There is none.
The law was nailed to the cross. It died the death with Jesus.

There is no such thing as a Jewish Sabbath. There was no Israel, no Jew, no Moses, no Law, no plan of salvation because there was no sin when God made the Sabbath for all mankind according to Jesus (Mark 2:27; Genesis 2:1-3)

No. It was the penalty for sin that was nailed to the cross in the death of God's dear son. God's 10 commandments are not laws in ordinances (judgement or penalty for sin). No. Doing good on the Sabbath is not breaking the Sabbath. Mark 6:3 [3] Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.

According to Jesus, Paul, James and John, love is not separate from Gods' 10 commandments it is expressed in obedience to obeying God's commandments as shown in Matthew 22:36-40; Romans 13:8-12; James 2:8-12 and John 5:2-3 and is why Jesus says on these two great commandments of love to God and love to man hang all the law and the prophets.

New does not delete previous commandments. Jesus never came to destroy God’s laws but came to magnify,. Isaiah 42:21. Matthew 5:17-20.

Jesus tells us we should not break the least of these commandments.19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

God’s laws was not at odds with Jesus. Jesus came to do the will of His Father. John 6:38

James 2:10 To break one part of the law is to be guilty of all. The law is like a chain of ten links. Break one link and the chain is broken. God does not allow us to keep the laws we like, and break others.

We are all guilty under the law. This is why we have a new High Priest who gave us a new law.

Please, forget all about Jewish law that binds in chains.
