What light questions do you have for God? For me, I'd ask how many people will be saved and why that number specifically? Or, what is the purpose of our dreams when we went to sleep on earth?

Casual thread. Blessings to you all in Christ.

Jesus says few there be that find the way.

Even so, look at how many Revelation chapter seven says will be saved :) And I understand there will be more than we see in Revelation 7.

Why that number?

Partly because humans are not interested in putting God first. And therefore so many perish.

So, if humans in sin are not about God, how come ones do get saved? Are certain humans superior somehow to others?

No.

God is the One who is good and He is love and almighty, so He is able to bring people to Jesus. Or else who would be saved? It is possible only with God > Matthew 19:26, Mark 10:27, Luke 18:27.

what is the purpose of our dreams when we went to sleep on earth?
Each person is different. So, there can be a different purpose for each person's dreams. And every dream could have a different purpose . . . good or bad, depending on who brings the dream.

But a lot of dreams might not have purposes which are personal, but . . . in my opinion . . . in general dreams might have a practical physiological purpose >

During sleep people have a very high level of brain activity. And what becomes of you after some nice sleep? You are more clear; not only are you rested but you and do things better . . . more efficiently.

Sleep is very active; yet, it does not make you tired! How can this be?

I think it is because your brain cleans itself out during the sleep process, so it can do things more efficiently.

It is like how you can have a very busy day at work, so your desktop is cluttered with unopened mail and torn-open envelopes and messages. So, you need to clear that waste stuff away but preserve and put in order any mail and messages which are still needed; or else your next day will start off already mixed up.

Like this, your brain's nerves have chemical mail used to pass messages from one nerve to another. After a day of this, there is all the chemical stuff left over, built-up. It needs to be removed so your nerves have clear ways to pass their messages on to other nerves, without leftover chemicals mixing with it and slowing things down. And your brain stores things from the messages and experiences of the previous day, but not right in the midst of the next day's active messaging of the nerves.

So, rest is not all you need, at the end of the day.

And my opinion is that dreams could have a very basic function > to test your brain function to see how well it has been cleared out. Then your brain goes on to do more clearing, then another test dream :)

But there can be dreams which are God personally sharing with you. In your sleep during dreams, I suspect we are acting in our true character, maybe more than while awake; and so by reaching us in a dream during sleep, God could be communicating the most personally possible with us more the way we really are . . . while all our defenses are inactive and we are not busy pushing to make things happen.

So, when I wake up and I know I wasn't being spiritual and kind and about God during a dream, I can be worried and praying for God to really change my character to be like Jesus so I am not the way I can be otherwise.

And there can be Satanic and worldly dreams, which we can give in to, or we can defeat.

A dream which is from God will have God's purpose, of course; but even a bad dream can be turned to good use, right? . . . yes, with God :)

"How many people will be saved?" isn't a light question for me; I think it's one of the most serious questions there is.

A lighter one might be this: What was the star that the Magi saw, and how on earth did they look up at the night sky and correctly deduce that the Messiah was being born in Judea?

I realize this is a casual thread; my answer is not casual or jokey but is intended to promote tranquility.

Being united with God intimately is achieved through what the Eastern Orthodox call theosis* and involves an acquisition of true Theologia*, which is to say actual knowledge of the divine, which is reached through Hesychia, which is to say continual prayer of the heart in a constant state of calmness, so in this scenario, I believe we would be following two divine instructions: “Be still, and know that I am God” and “Pray without ceasing.”

* John Wesley attempted to import this concept into the West, calling it “entire sanctification,” but unfortunately the Western church did not immediately understand what he was getting at, and we still make the mistake of calling Wesley an Arminian*** theologian; while he did share some non-Calvinist views with Jacob Arminius and the Remonstrants, the core of Wesleyanism was really this importation of Eastern Orthodox, Moravian, Lutheran and Pietist theological concepts and their integration into liturgical Anglicanism.

**Such an acquisition might be what is meant in Roman Catholic mysticism with the concept of the Beatific Vision, although the Beatific Vision is also presented as an objective of salvation, which Theosis is presented as in Eastern Orthodox theology.

*** And now for a meta-footnote for purposes of making some attempt at the levity suggested by this thread; I might be tempted to ask our Lord if he could not retroactively rename Jacob Arminius so that people would not confuse Arminian theology with the theology of the Armenian Orthodox Church.

Your question is found here. Jesus answered it by redirecting the conversation toward the individual's own personal walk. You should be concerned for yourself, and not the number of people who will be saved.

To me it is actually a mathematical model. By freewill entities will divide. They divide into 2 camps, for God and to oppose God. With this effect of freewill, 1/3 angels will fall and the other 2/3 will follow God forever.

Since humans are given a much larger degree of freewill, less than 1/3 humans can be saved (compared to the 2/3 angels saved). Less than 1/3 humans will be saved if humans are independent from the existence of angels. Under the interaction and influence from the much more interlligent and much capable angels (i.e., the 1/3 fallen angels), humans don't stand a chance to pass the judgment of Law which is applicable to both humans and angels alike.

That is, without the interaction between angels and humans, there will be less than 1/3 humans saved. However with the influence of the angels, none of humans can be saved. It is because the final Heaven is with angels interacting with humans, that no matter it's Eden or Earth that humans are put under the influence of the angels.

As a result and well witnessed from Adam till Noah, no humans can be saved and they should all be destroyed by the flood. However by God's mercy that Jesus' sacrifice at some point of history allows humans to be judged according to a series of covenants instead of Law. With Jesus' self-sacrifice in place, there will be less than 1/3 humans saved instead of none when Law is used as a judgment tool.

To summarize, if angels and humans are without interaction, there will be 2/3 angels and less than 1/3 humans saved as a result of the degree of freewill granted. With interaction however, none of humans can be saved. With God's grace through Jesus in place, it is thus "corrected" that there will be less than 1/3 humans saved, again.

To put it short, without Satan then less than 1/3 humans will be saved. With Satan then none is saved. With Jesus this is corrected that less than 1/3 humans will be saved in the end through the narrow gate.

  1. I'd ask if God can take me on a tour through the whole universe from the beginning of time to present and possible futures. Included, I think I'd be especially interested in the whole of human history. Not a question, more of a request.
  2. I'd ask Him to go through the bible with me and explain it all.
