So, just one month ago, Dr Walensky, head of the CDC was on the news on the edge of tears saying the US was heading toward doomsday.

Then, last Wednesday, she was on the news saying "now is not the time to stop wearing masks."

Twenty four hours later, the CDC announces that those who are fully vaccinated no longer have to wear masks outdoors or indoors, and no longer need to social distance themselves.

She needs to resign, she's confusing the public as much as she's confused.

Can you supply evidence for this? I doubt that Dr Walensky "was on the news on the edge of tears". She is a highly-respected professional and "on the edge of tears" is just an (undocumented) opinion.

If you actually watched this video, it was made in March when the COVID-19 virus was increasing. Now that millions of people have been vaccinated she and the others leading the fight against this virus have been much more hopeful and have lifted many restrictions.

So far, 585,000 Americans have died from COVID-19 and 33,000,000 Americans have been infected. Dr Walensky, by warning the country, undoubtedly saved many lives of people who were/are willing to listen. This issue isn't political so -- why are you making it so?

One comment and it was only six weeks ago and it was a message of panic, but you can round up to 2 months as you've done.

I don't rely on Fox News, but go ahead and shoot the messenger. I only watched Mike Wallace today, but the other networks reported the same thing. I usually watch This Week With George Stephanopoulos who is a Democrat from the Bill Clinton administration, but Martha Radditz was host today and so I watched something else.

Yeah, the virus has killed a great number of people, I'm not denying that. I'm questioning how she can go from an emotional doomsday report just six weeks ago, to keep wearing your masks last Wednesday and in just 24 hours to not having to wear masks. Currently over half the nation still isn't vaccinated and she's telling us we don't have to wear masks. She's inconsistent and sending out confusing messages to the public.

The problem with our society today is that it created institutions which are not only too big to fail, it became too big to criticize. It's what corporate America has recently learned and why they've jumped on the political bandwagon of leftist ideology and now attack the voters themselves with leftist misinformation. As the data shows, cases were plummeting prior to mass vaccination. Then there was a little tiny bump, and then started decreasing again. In fact, daily case counts aren't really that much lower now than they were when she made her emotional, data-poor plea.

Hopefully you've found this thread helpful since you're seeking the truth. You've learned that Dr. Walensky was in fact on the verge of tears with her over-the-top histrionics and predictions of impending doom that we all know now never came to fruition.

Public health experts in general have been a disaster. Take masks for example. Here's a tongue-in-cheek (but not too far removed from reality) summary of the sequence of mask messaging we've heard over the last 16 months...

• Masks are useless. No one needs a mask.
• Seriously. Stop buying masks. I'm the United States Surgeon General and I know things. Things you don't know and could never possibly understand.
• Actually, masks might be beneficial in certain circumstances, but only if you can't social distance.
• By the way, a mask won't protect you at all, but it will protect others. Thank you for your altruism.
• Or then again, maybe you should wear masks any time you're inside a building.
• Eh, since you're already wearing masks so much, you might as well just wear them when you're outside as well. While you're running, biking, jogging, walking... Even if you're all alone and the nearest human being is nowhere to be seen, mask up, just to be "safe".
• Heck, why don't you just wear a mask every time you walk out your front door. More masks is always better!

The "study" even states it's not applicable to real-life scenarios, and you might not be able to breathe if the masks are as tight as they affixed them to the mannequins, but at least you won't get COVID! Maybe.
• Good news! The vaccines are really super effective! But, you should still wear your mask (or masks?) until... well, maybe a few more months. Maybe until next year,. Maybe forever. We're not really sure.
• Yet another SCIENCEY breakthrough; Vaccinated people can take their masks off outside. And while we're at it, even Unvaccinated people can take them off! But only in certain circumstances. So I agree with the OP. Public health has failed on the messaging in the pandemic, because they have failed to base their guidance and recommendations on data and science. Instead, they have shifted with popular opinion and political pressures. Any pretense that we are "following the SCIENCE!" has long since been proven to be a farce.

And that doesn't even touch on the public health consequences of the mitigation measures. The collateral damage has been immense; elderly people literally dying of loneliness, mental health issues escalating, suicides of the young on the rise, missed and delayed diagnoses of other diseases, educational levels reaching new lows... But pay no attention to any of that! We care only about COVID numbers!

52% own guns. They wear them like fashion accessories to protect their families, but they won't take 15 minutes to protect them from real dangers.

I saw Dr. Walensky on Meet the Press. Like me, she wants 100% vaccination rates. I think the loosening of mask regulations might be a popular discipline technique.

The law of natural consequences.

The unvaccinated will get sick. Get long haulers disease. A few will die.

And hopefully more will get vaccinated.

It is sad common sense and community spirit didn't work, but then again many of them never wore masks to begin with.

Well, as the Director of the CDC, perhaps she could actually analyze the data and conduct actual studies. RCTs of masking. You know, actual science that isn't politicized and/or based on popular opinion.

Perhaps she could explain why she's advocated for an EUA for vaccination for children when children actually have a higher risk of dying from suicide than they do from COVID. Did you know that somewhere around 300 children under the age of 18 have had COVID associated deaths since the pandemic began? So the risk of an adverse event from vaccination must be almost non-existent to justify vaccinating children, where COVID has NOT proven to be a high risk to them at all. There are roughly 75 million children in the United States. If all of them are vaccinated and there is an adverse event rate of only 0.001%, more than double the number of kids would be harmed than if they hadn't been vaccinated at all.

Or maybe she could explain why back on February 3, she said that schools could safely reopen without vaccinating teachers, but now she thinks every man, woman, child and baby on the planet needs a vaccination. From the article, Dr. Walensky is quoted;

"There is increasing data to suggest that schools can safely reopen and that safe reopening does not suggest that teachers need to be vaccinated,” CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky told reporters during a White House news briefing on Covid-19.

“Vaccinations of teachers is not a prerequisite for safely reopening schools,” she added.​

Of course, she had to backtrack when the Biden administration threw her under the bus and then came out with ridiculously restrictive "guidance" for school openings that would have kept 90%+ of schools closed, in direct opposition to what she had just said days earlier. Jake Tapper at CNN called her on this. Just watch her flop around like a fish trying to come up with a cohesive answer to simple questions about the science;

Or maybe she could explain why there is no consideration of natural herd immunity when speaking of "safety". Studies have shown that if you've had COVID, you have as much immunity as if you got the vaccine. "But we don't know how long that immunity lasts!" The same is true of the vaccine. I mean, they're already saying you're going to need a booster shot in just 6 months. Of course, it was the CEO of Pfizer that said that, but I'm sure his motives are completely altruistic, pure and holy and not at all related to the fact that he stands to profit immensely from convincing people they need his product every 6 months to be "safe".

This woman isn't behaving as a leader and advocate of public health. She is behaving as a politician. It's astounding to me as people watch her never-ending flip-flops that they still think she's doing the best she can.
