House Republicans oust Rep. Liz Cheney from top post

The voice vote was overwhelming. Cheney said afterward: “I will do everything I can to ensure that the former president never again gets anywhere near the Oval Office.”

Cheney opened the meeting as chair with a prayer. The motion was declared almost immediately.

There were voices in support of her, but they read the room to realize it wasn’t worth demanding a [formal] vote, said Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.), a member of the Freedom Caucus who supported Cheney and believes she was canceled. “Even the people who voted ‘no’ felt it was unnecessary. It wasn’t going to change the outcome,” Buck added.

The position will now be filled in a new election. A candidate forum would have to be scheduled before an election is held. The forum could be as soon as Thursday for a vote on Friday.

You guys just crack me up with the way you spin things. This is not about silencing Liz Cheney. She is free to continue making all of the comments she has made in the past. This is about having someone who is in the minority of opinions on many issues in the GOP as one of the leaders of the GOP in the House. The GOP has every right to select someone else to be that leader. So this is actually about liberals trying to spin this to cancel that right to select someone else without mass media backlash. It seems that the meaning of liberal has changed to someone who is extremely tolerant of all others who share their opinion and extremely intolerant of all those who do not.

That Trump lost the election and it was not rigged against or stolen from him is not merely an opinion but a statement of plain fact. It’s a problem for us all if one of the two major parties in our government is incapable of or doesn’t want to accept established reality.

She voted consistently with the Republican block; like 90 something percent of the time. She just isn't falling in line about trump support or lying that he won the election. How was she in the minority of opinions or issues within the R party? She is a textbook Republican. She just understands that trump lost and lost them the presidency and congress and isn't lying about it.

That explains why the Republicans emptied the chamber en masse when she spoke. The trump personality cult, a.k.a., the current Republican party, wants to discredit her and everyone else who disagrees with them. It seems that the meaning of Republican has changed to someone who is extremely intolerant of all those who do not share their opinion that trump is perfect, including leaders of their own party.

My spin? The only person talking about cancelling in the OP was "Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.)"

Of course the GOP is welcome to choose its leadership. So you get McCarthy who originally supported the truth and then found it was too unpopular with the base. And Cheney, who stuck with the truth despite its unpopularity, gets pushed out of leadership. Congrats.

She wouldn't have lost her leadership position if she had done just what you mentioned here. The fact is that what she did instead is what was at issue...and there is no question about that being the case.

Goodness! Talk about writing and writing but never coming to grips with the actual event we supposedly are talking about here!

Goodness! That must have been terrible whatever it is that she actually did.

What was it that got her booted from her position?

If there were any truth to that analysis, there would have been a dozen other members of Congress who would have been censured or had other such actions taken against them before Liz Cheney.

Quite obviously, there's something wrong with your theory.

She said: "The President bears responsibility for Wednesday's attack on Congress by mob rioters."

Oh wait, that was Minority leader Kevin McCarthy in January.

The key difference is none of those other members are in leadership positions in the party. Cheney is, or at least was, in a leadership position. The GOP has made clear who’s in charge of their party. The guy who cost them everything.

Here's Liz's support of Trump: Tracking Congress In The Age Of Trump

And here's Elise Stefanik's: Tracking Congress In The Age Of Trump

Liz fell in line until Jan. 6th happened. She was not in the minority on much of anything until she decided to speak out against support for trump. So why is she getting outed? What are her other minority views on issues within the R party? What else is she against that the others are for?

Because Trump says so and Kevin McCarthy has no spine.
