  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Teacher goes on racist rant, not realizing Zoom was on
Katura Stokes' son, a sixth grade student at Desert Willow Fine Arts, Science and Technology Magnet Academy in Palmdale, about 50 miles north of downtown Los Angeles, was having difficulty accessing the school's online platform for remote learning, according to the claim, a precursor to a lawsuit in California.

Stokes set up a meeting with her son's science teacher, Kimberly Newman, to address his struggles with online learning, the claim says.

On Jan. 20, after the parent-teacher meeting on Zoom, Newman — who is white — did not end the meeting for all attendees and instead left her microphone and her camera turned on, according to the claim.

Newman then seemed to make made racist remarks, unaware that she could still be heard on Zoom, and Stokes began recording the call on video.
Oops. Is this a form of Toobin? :sorry:

I don't know if it played any part in this incident, but it's been interesting to see the demographic shifts in Southern California over the past few decades. Many black people (and Hispanics) have left Los Angeles proper and have settled in Palmdale/Lancaster/Antelope Valley.

As the last affordable area for new single-family homes in Los Angeles County, the Antelope Valley has enabled many people of color to purchase property, resulting in a shifting racial demographic. According to the 2010 U.S. Census, 20.5 percent of Lancaster’s residents are African Americans, who also make up 14.8 percent of Palmdale’s population. More than half of Palmdale’s residents are of Hispanic or Latino origin, as is 38 percent of Lancaster.

Until the late 1970s, the population was predominantly white,

Then on the flip side, there is concern from longtime residents of traditionally black areas of LA (including where I live) that they're getting less black.
