A strong memory is the only thing to rely on.

As has so often been shown, memory - no matter how strong and vivid it is - can not be relied upon.
If that were true, then why were some of the best chess players (something that requires incredible memory) pretty awful people, like Bobby Fischer?

Perhaps, but he certainly had an amazing memory.
He was a raging bigot and not a very nice person. But he had a great memory.
So having a great memory doesn't prevent someone from being "lost"
Yeah, it's much better when you can say, "See that?" And then other people say, "Yeah, I see it too! Let's study it and record it!"
