And that is correct because if you have faith and the Holy Spirit is working in your heart you are going to do good works, you dont have to think about having to do them you will naturally want to do them.

But Jesus said that The Father cuts off every branch in Me that beareth not fruit. A person can’t be in Christ without having faith. Faith allows us to receive the Holy Spirit but it does not force us to comply with His guidance which is why Paul said do not grieve the Holy Spirit which you have been sealed with unto the day of redemption. Faith is not the only requirement for salvation. Love is also just as necessary as faith is. Which is why Paul said if I have all faith so as to move mountains but I have not love I am nothing.

Salvation is NOT earned. It is a gift. That is the difference between Christianity and all religions. I'm sure I am right because God says that's the way it is.
Then will I receive this free gift as an atheist?

If that's the case then what you need to do is be the right sort of person, and that's how you earn eternal salvation. So what is the right sort of person?

No I was thinking more along the lines of having love for God and others. Do you believe a person will be saved by having faith without love?

Does every single person receive salvation, or just some people who have done something specific? Whatever that thing is, that's what you have to do to "earn" salvation.
To earn is quite different than to recieve. I recieved Jesus Christ of Nazareth as my Lord, I did nothing to earn it. Blessings.

Fundamental to receiving the Spirit of God in your life is surrender...

Folks who do not receive His saving grace were not willing to do so.

Often it is because they judge God, rejecting who He really is, and refusing to believe what is written about Jesus in scripture.

And bye the way - Grace produces salvation and salvation expresses in works.

Surrender is not a work - it is giving up yourself so He can take over your life and make it how it was always meant to be.

If you are genuine, you will repent of doing your own thing in life and let Him take control.

Why do you need your faith to do good works? Plenty of people of no faith do things that are good simply because it is the right thing to do, no holy spirit needed.

I'm trying to have a discussion here in this thread. If you're not interested, that's fine.
The answer to your previous question cannot be reduced to post snippets. If you really didn't want an answer, my mistake.

You don't want to have a discussion with me, that's fine. Large topics can be summarized in your own words and then we can explore that in depth, if you were interested. Don't put it on me that you don't have anything to say yourself.

If God exists, I welcome Him to strip me of my free will and take over my life completely. No sarcasm, no joke. I can't think of a more all encompassing surrender than that.

I don't think we disagree. People who are loving receive eternal salvation, so God is looking for the right sort of people.

What does it take to earn eternal salvation? If you think you know the answer, are you sure? If you aren't sure, could you do more? If you could do more, why aren't you?

Martin Luther has been reincarnated. :D

But yeah, I don't know why I don't do my best with regard to religion or anything else. Maybe we can just blame it on Original Sin and call it a day? Or we could also side with those who believe that whenever anyone does anything whatsoever,--and particularly those who have failed--they have "Tried their best." :D

Your problem is the first three words... If God exists

You must first know that He does.

However it is quite OK to ask Him to reveal Himself to you, but be warned, it may change your life completely.

Ponder on this verse...

Heb 11:6

without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who approaches Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.

Yes I believe the combination of faith and love results in works. I don’t believe that our works play a role in our salvation but rather that our faith enables us to receive the Holy Spirit who will guide us and teach us and thru our love for God and others we desire to do what pleases God and is helpful to others. I think so many people focus in the debate between faith and works and often overlook the significance of faith and love.

If a person of no faith spends time helping others, not for personal gain or recognition, but because they feel it is only right to help, do you, or other Christians, consider such good work to be of less value than those carried out by Christians?

1 Cor 13:3

if I give away all my possessions to charity, and if I surrender my body so that I may glory, but do not have love, it does me no good.
