Technical questions come up in various threads and so it is almost impossible to answer them because they are spread out so that most readers do not see them.
It would be helpful to get more educated answers to those questions we have about our technical questions.

New emoticons"
A question emoticon and a disagree emoticon.
If we had a disagree emoticon there would be less controversy as some would be satisfied with just an emoticon.
just a question mark to show your wonder? instead of having to ask.

What sort of technical questions? The staff may want some examples.

If there were to be a subforum for this, there should be a sticky thread/post for how to ask good questions that facilitate getting relevant answers quickly.
Here is one going on right now:

I had one that came up when I posted problems with my computer for months that I hadn't been able to fix. I didn't ask for help it just came up in an unrelated topic.
Someone suggested a utility to use. It worked wonders when it fixed my computer successfully and it hadn't been suggested for my particular problem I just decided to try it.
They do come up in various threads with only those that read that particular thread will see and not always have an answer but with a concentrated thread dealing with those questions much would be gained.
I might be able to find the topic if you need it.

Are you talking about CF related questions?

I could see some abuse coming from the disagree post rating. I will bring this up also to the Senior Staff.

No, here is a current question going on.

Questions come up such as computer questions, etc. in threads that really don't get them an answer. If they were concentrated in one topic they would get educated answers.
There are a number of questions that are technical about problems one is having with their home electronics and it is nice to find someone that has had the same problem and has an answer. Even auto problems, the list goes on. Problems putting something together. etc.
Sketcher has already asked this question. You might want to put you heads together.
Even concerning CF would be nice.
I have had a few but don't know an easy way of asking like a recent question:
WHy can't I have more then 4 lines of comments at the end of my posts when others have many?

The disagree emoticon would limit arguments as a person would be satisfied in just saying they disagree with the post.
I have wanted to just disagree without explanation.
It would also limit polls, lol

Answers would come from those who have one, mostly from members as they are not related to religious beliefs, etc.

I don't know... I think that if I am inclined to make it publicly known
that I disagree on something, I should at the very least explain why.
If my reasons for disagreeing are good ones, it shouldn't be that
hard to do. Merely clicking a "disagree" icon gets me off the hook
too easily. :)

It was a thought as sometimes I just want to disagree without an explanation. There is an 'agree' so why not a disagree?
The poster can always ask for why he disagrees and the disagreeer, lol can always decline to say why.:)

I believe we used to have these years ago. It's annoying that only the "positive reinforcement" ones remain. If you don't agree, you can't react, lol.

My very thoughts. Another one I would like to see is "not funny". I've needed it many times and there is just nothing that fits. But it would be used more satirical then mean. not in a mean way.
Thanks for the ratings.
'Happy day!

We have discussed "Disagree" emoticons in the past and it is denied. Honestly, we have enough problems with people flaming and goading useing the emoji we have, adding more tends to only compound problems. A "disagree" emoji would entice members to follow other members postings to simply click on "disagree". There is too much room for abuse.

The thing is, the emoji are intended to be positive reinforcement, as someone above mentions. This is supposed to be a place where people can interact positively and uplift one another. We fail on that many times daily.

However, usually if one disagrees it is better to explain why there is a disagreement. A emoji that quickly states disagree or not funny, or similar does not help explain ones self. Writing out why you disagree, or asking for more information encourages discussion and clarification. Usually it is better to just "scroll by" discussions that one does not actually want to discuss.

Why must all interactions be expected to be positive, though? You have forums for Debate, for goodness' sake lol. Do you expect everyone to agree? It's not much of a debate if everyone's just nodding and giving thumbs up.

It's an odd and illogical paradox, in my eyes. "Debate away, but you can't react unless you LOVE the post."

Why is disagreeing frowned upon? Aren't disagreements a normal, human thing? They don't have to be unpleasant or disrespectful. I'd be encouraging people to disagree more often, frankly, without fear of censure.

Disagreements are not frowned upon, how those disagreements are expressed and discussed is what matters. A simple "disagree" emoji does not foster understanding or discussion, it shuts down both of those.

For example, if I had just rated your post above "disagree" that would not have fostered our discussion, we would have not made any ground or understanding, it would have simply closed my (and your) mind to further discussion.
I'd be encouraging people to disagree more often, frankly, without fear of censure.
We don't censure except in certain cases outlined in the TOS. But it really does matter how one frames a disagreement.

By the same token, though, none of the current emojis "foster understanding or discussion" either. Saying "I like your post" with a thumbsup doesn't tell the poster anything more than a thumbsdown saying "I didn't like your post". Neither tells the poster WHY.

I wouldn't consider a discussion "shut down" if there were a disagree emoji and it were used. But that's just me.

Granted. But a positive reaction does not necessarily need a response. It does not need someone to explain why they agree. A disagreement should include why - otherwise it would be better to just scroll on by.

It's not just that. We have members that abuse the system as it is. With a negative emoji people would abuse it even more. We have members that abuse the positive emoji by rating all of a members posts "agree" or "prayers" in a goading manner, that kind of issue would be amplified with negative emoji. People would rate all of a member's posts in a thread or across the board "disagree".....and maybe they do, but that is not appropriate behavior.
