Maryland man in custody after letter threatening voters, Biden and Harris

A Maryland man is facing a federal charge after allegedly threatening former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris and supporters with a letter in Frederick in early October.

A criminal complaint was filed Wednesday charging the man, James Dale Reed, 42, on the federal charge of threats against a major candidate for President or Vice President.

[He left a letter on the doorstep of a house with Biden/Harris signs.]

The letter reads in part: “This is a warning to anyone reading this letter if you are a Biden/Harris supporter you will be targeted. We have a list of homes and addresses by your election signs. We are the ones with those scary guns, We are the ones your children have nightmares about…”

The rest of the message is too graphic to detail, but claims that they will allegedly beat Biden and sodomize Harris before executing them on national television.

The affidavit noted that Reed is known to the U.S. Secret Service for making a threatening statement against a person under USSS protection in 2014.

Wow. From the WaPo: "And when he was arrested later that month in North Carolina, police searching his van found four rifles, a 9mm handgun, explosive materials, books on bomb making, and $509,000 in cash that’s believed to be his inheritance.

Those revelations all come in an order that a federal magistrate judge filed earlier this month outlining why Treisman, who was indicted by a federal grand jury in September on child inappropriate contentography charges, should remain in custody.

Prosecutors said in a statement that law enforcement found a [room that resembled a] “U.S. Military outpost bunker” in the home of James Dale Reed of Frederick, Maryland.

After entering Reed’s home, the statement says, law enforcement officials seized “a Smith & Wesson 9VE handgun; a JC Higgins 20-12 Gauge rifle; a .223 caliber Bushmaster XM15-E25; a Hi Point 995 handgun; and approximately eight ammunition cans with 5.56 and 9mm ammunition and AR-15 carbine magazines.”

Reed also had “two grenades without blast caps,” and a “military-style ‘go-bag.'”

Reed agreed, as part of the plea deal, to give up the firearms and ammunition, prosecutors said. He is set for a sentencing hearing on July 27, and faces a maximum of five years in prison.
