Had the siege been on the Sabbath
as it was the Roman army arrived 66 AD at which time most remembering His warning left...the actual siege lasted for months...
Even in the midst of the Roman siege (April – September 70 AD), there were Jews who found safety when they escaped to the Romans, as “Titus let a great number of them go away into the country, whither they pleased” (
Wars 5.10.1). Later in the siege Josephus said this:
“Many also of the other nobility went over to the Romans, together with the high priests. Now Caesar not only received these men very kindly in other respects, but, knowing they would not willingly live after the customs of other nations, he sent them to Gophna, and desired them to remain there for the present, and told them, that when he was gotten clear of this war, he would restore each of them to their possessions again; so they cheerfully retired to that small city which was allotted them, without fear of any danger” (
Wars 6.2.2).
Did All of the Judean Christians Flee to Pella?
Maybe read more historical accounts to get a better perspective as to what Yahushua understood about coming wars and times of trouble...
and the gates would have been closed thus no one could escape.
right...during a 4 year war and months long siege the gates were ONLY closed on the Sabbath...LOL
I cannot find in the old covenant the law that would keep a person form saving their lives on their Sabbath.
maybe some more history?
The principal sources of our historical information about this ritual piety are the Apocryphal Books of the Maccabees and the works of Josephus Flavius. In I Maccabees (2:29-37), we find the following narrative about a Greek attack on the Jews:
The [Greeks] arose, suddenly, to fall upon [the Jews] on Shabbat, saying to them: How long will you refuse to obey the king . . . . And the men in their midst did not raise their hands to hurl a stone or to silence them . . . and they fell upon them on Shabbat and killed all those in the cave . . . about 1,000 people.
The deaths of 1,000 Jewish men, women, and children prompted Matthias and the Maccabees to respond. They decided, the text continues, that if they were again attacked on Shabbat, they would fight a defensive battle:
They said to one another: If we all act as our brothers have, and refuse to defend our lives and beliefs, we will shortly be destroyed. They decided on that day: Whosoever will attack us on Shabbat, we will fight back; we will not die like our brothers in the caves.

Using that verse to prove the Sabbath requirement is part of the new covenant is bologna.
but is it kosher bologna? lol
Obviously Yahushua's understanding about times of trouble war and siege had Him instruct that during those times the Sabbath be remembered as a day of rest...STILL
He obviously knew it would take more than ONE day to level the Temple...
Most people understand that...until they remember the Sabbath and suddenly they seek to forget all else to claim gates were closed JUST ON ONE DAY during a war and seige...lol
"Tiberius!!! We came all this way from Rome and the gates are LOCKED!!!"
"Yes yes Titus! They lock the gates on Sabbath to keep the Christians inside"
"Does this mean we have to come back tomorrow when the gates are open"
"Yes yes I suppose it does...those annoying customs not lawful for Romans to receive or observe"
LOL
but seriously of ALL the commandments to remember during times of trouble war and siege and "RUN TO THE HILLS!" He chooses to instruct prayers be said that the Sabbath remain a HOLY day of rest...
not even prayers to preserve lives...or spare the Temple...but that the Sabbath be a day of Holy rest...
a sabbatismos indeed remains for His people...long into the future...
