They don't work in the same sense that a bullet proof vest doesn't prevent you from getting hit in the head or dying from impact forces but it is way better than nothing in a warzone.

Two points:
1. The video that they showed demonstrated that N95 masks absolutely do work. Also, it did not show the range on the aerosol can with no mask. Any barrier at all will reduce the velocity of air exiting your mouth/nose, which means that any cloud of droplets you expel will not travel as far, even if it does pass through the mask.
2. That video is from early April. The primary reason for advising people not to wear masks was due to a shortage of PPE for healthcare workers. This is less of an issue now.

Masks reduce risk, they do not eliminate it.

Separating by 2 meters reduces risk, it does not eliminate it.

Excluding peoples with some symptoms (like fever) reduces risk, it does not eliminate it.

Dining outdoors rather than indoors reduces risk, it does not eliminate it.

Plastic shields between customers and cashiers reduces risk, it does not eliminate it.

Fewer people in the same place reduces risk, it does not eliminate it.

These types of measures can make things that would be dangerous or risky, less risky or dangerous and allow "normal" activities to occur (with some limitations).

I think the only sneeze I've had outside my own property was in the parking lot of the grocery last week, and I looked around to see if anyone was near. I have been very conscious of possible pending sneezes when in public.

I've got a serious question for you. I don't know the real answer because this is not my area of expertise by a long shot, but what if someone were to see a post like that and decide NOT to wear a mask and what if (just humor me for a second) the highly trained professionals at the CDC are RIGHT that it is an imperfect but still highly useful item to protect people...what if the person who decided the posted video was more correct than the CDC and they contracted COVID and died.

Does that bother you in the slightest? I'm not asking to be nasty here. It is something that always troubles me about posting "contrarian" material online. What if the experts are actually CORRECT and the viral video isn't?

(I'm not saying who is right or wrong, just curious how you, as a Christian deal with this sort of uncertainty. When I was a Christian the mere thought that I might do something that could potentially lead someone to death kept me awake at night. You may be made of strong stuff. I'm just curious how you parse this sort of thing. And, again, I'm not being snarky or nasty or anything like that. I'm honestly curious).
