  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why people so scared about the mark of the beast?

If you are reborn, you are no longer spiritually dead but you are alive, you are sealed by the spirit, thus you can no longer receive this mark. Jesus Christ took the judgement for you so and you have been made righteous in His name and God doesn't judge His people twice. It's done Jesus was judged in your place, you are forever sealed, you are going to Heaven, what can therefore satan or anyone else do against you? Nothing. Satan and people can accuse you as much as they want but Jesus and the Spirit testify that your debt towards God has been fully paid by Jesus on the cross.

By the way, the rapture of the Church will happen before the antichrist is revealed, before the mark of the beast. So if you are indeed saved, you no longer will be here as the beast starts marking people. Praise the Lord for this!

Because of the growing influence of immanent futurism in American churches.

Keeping people in fear makes good money. Nobody cares that these "last days" are proclaimed to come almost for a century now.

Such churches must be avoided. Let's pray therefore for people that God can reveal this to them so they too don't have to live in fear but happiness that the day of our meeting with Lord is coming.

Because if you receive the mark and worship the beast you can't repent and ask God to forgive you.
It's a done deal :

Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice,

"If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation.

He Shall Be Tormented With Fire and Brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.

And the smoke of their torment ascends Forever and Ever; and They Have No Rest Day Or Night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name."

Also, because you can't buy or sell unless you have it.
And if you don't receive the mark then you are killed :

He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast To Be Killed.

He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Not so .... it's going to be a great deception (satan enters or working through the beast) ... the Lords people will go through the tribulation .... but that period of time will be cut short. Many people will believe the anti-christ is actually Jesus.

2 Thessalonians 2:3-4

Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.

Matthew 24:24

For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.

Revelation 13:8

And all who dwell on earth will worship it, everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain.

Revelation

One of its heads seemed to have a mortal wound, but its mortal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast.

2 Thessalonians

And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming.

Luke 12:40

You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

2 Thessalonians

The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders,

Matthew 24:21 E

For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be.

Matthew 24:22

And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.

those days .... tribulation .... will be cut short for the sake of the elect (Gods people)

While i can see how easy it would be to be deceived by false prophets going by two completely different yet equally convincing interpretations of the order of the end times and the rapture being before after or at all. I can't see how a believer could be tricked into believing the beast is Jesus if they have a personal relationship with him. His spirit inside us can't be replicated on such a intimate level.

I thought the order would be like this: Jesus will descend to clouds (He will descend to Earth later) and the trumpet sounds (whether by an angel or Jesus Himself) in that exact moment, the rapture of the Church will happen. The dead first in Christ will rise first, then those alive in Christ are translated into resurrection bodies. Now this will be only the Christians who are sealed by the spirit, the Christians that are not yet sealed by the Spirit are left on the Earth.

Those Christians sealed by the Spirit will attend the Feast which is in Heaven. The Holy Spirit will leave with them.

Luke 14:15-24 “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’ “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’ “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’ “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’ “The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’ “‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’ “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’”

Now this parable to me is about the Christians who are not yet reborn, who are not prepared for the feast. So when the trumpet sounds their hearts will be still here on earth rather than in Heaven thus when the rapture happens they will be left behind. They yet not fully repented, they yet not repented, they yet are not prepared to leave everything behind and in a moment go with Christ because they still more concerned about Earthly things, thus they will miss the Feast in Heaven.
But they will be given second chance, but now without the Holy Spirit on Earth as He also left on rapture day to attend the Feast. (This is the parable of 10 virgins, 5 are taken and 5 are not because they are not prepared. The 10 virgins represent 10 Christians, the 5 who take the oil are prepared so they will attend the Feast, the 5 foolish virgins who didn't not bring oil with them won't attend the Feast).

Ok so now the Christians who are reborn have been all taken, the Christians who are not reborn are left behind on the day of the Rapture but they still have a chance to fully repent.

Now, after the Rapture it will all go down. God will destroy one fourth of the population as it is written in the book of revelation. This will give people still time to repent it is one of the last chances, it is not yet the end of the world, people still have time to repent. Then after the one quarter are wiped out (Rev 6:8) more disasters will happen as described in the book of revelation. This is the time when many will receive the mark of the beast, and they will do everything to receive it, and many Christians who are left behind too, but some will resist and will die because of it because they don't receive the mark. Those Christians now full repented so they will go to Heaven. They will not attend the Feast because that already happened, and because they hesitated in the first place and thus missed it.

(Rev 6:9-10) I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. - these are the Christians (who were left after rapture) who resisted and not received the mark thus were killed
10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” - this verse is the key and confirms that there will be Christians here left after the rapture, those who weren't sealed by the Spirit, hence after they are killed (because they don't have the mark) they are in Heaven and asking God for revenge. How do I know this? Because once you are sealed by the Holy Spirit you don't ask for revenge here on Earth i.e. Stephen who before He was stoned asked God for forgiveness of those who stoned Him and not for revenge. Why would He then ask for revenge in Heaven?

This clearly indicates then that there are two groups of Christians. First, sealed by the Spirit who will be called on the day of rapture and attend the Feast, and second group of Christians who recognise Christ but haven't surrended fully and are still holding on Earthly things - those Christians will not attend the Feast and will be left here on Earth and they will be given a second chance to repent and resist the mark of the Beast and when they are killed because of it, they will go to Heaven.

Therefore we can say that first the Rapture will happen, reborn Christians will be taken, and then everything you have said will happen, all the disasters, Antichrist will be revealed, mark of the beast etc etc, so then those Christians who are still here on Earth, and non-christians too still have time to repent and go to Heaven

Your question was : "Why are people scared ?"

So I was explaining that the answer is because if they don't take it they will be killed and can't buy or sell. And that if they receive the mark and worship the beast they will be tormented with fire and brimstone.

Alright fair enough. My point was people should not fear of receiving this mark but should trust the promise of God. My post was meant to be in a positive way (I see my error of asking such question) that we have the promise of God that we no longer have to fear the mark of the beast and that we don't have to worry what it is.

How do you know that?

Study the events of the book of revelation. For example from the start of chapter 6 (chapter 6 describes the 7 seals, and all the catastrophes that start to happen before tribulation) there is no mention of the Church on Earth because they are already described that they are in Heaven. And this is before tribulation begins.

If God miraculously preserves the church through the tribulation, why have a rapture? If it is to avoid the wrath of God at Armageddon, then why would God not continue to protect the saints on earth - this is the argument against that the rapture will happen post-tribulation.

Before the tribulation starts, God will allow some catastrophes to happen (like one quarter of the population will be wiped out) so people still have time to repent. The Church has already repent so they do not need to experience this. God is merciful to His people, He will not allow His children to experience those bad times. It is during those pre-tribulation catastrophes (rapture already happened) that the beast will mark people left on Earth.

Why is it that some Christians believe that we are raptured before the mark of the beast and some believe that we go through it and are raptured at the end? There seems to be biblical evidence to support both. I am struggling at the moment to know which theory is correct for my own peace of mind. Both seem to make sense which also worrys me how easy it is for a lie to be convincing.

The mark of the beast is very complex subject. I have studied many different teachings and theories. And that is the problem a lot of this left up to interpretation.
I do have comfort in revelation 12:11

If we take that the events in the book of revelation are written in in chronological order, the rapture already happened by the time we get to chapter 6/7 (the church here is already in Heaven) and the mark of the beast is in chapter 13 which leads me to believe that the rapture will happen before the mark of the beast.

I don't think anyone knows what it is, but if you believe Jesus defeated satan on the cross and that His blood wiped out your sins and you have been made righteous in His name, then there is nothing to fear.

Now this parable to me is about the Christians who are not yet reborn, who are not prepared for the feast. They yet not fully repented, they yet not repented, they yet are not prepared to leave everything behind and in a moment go with Christ because they still more concerned about Earthly things, thus they will miss the Feast in Heaven.

There are NO 2nd chances after His return .... when the Lord returns He is in the fullness of His glory and power.

When the Lord returns .... the 1st resurrection (of the saved) happens ... any saved living at the time are translated and taken to heaven ... and are there for the 1,000 years ... then .... the 2nd resurrection happens. All the saved go to heaven together at once whether in the grave or otherwise.

Exodus 33:20
Berean Study Bible
But He (God) added, “You cannot see My face, for no one can see Me and live.”
(at His coming the saved can because they are changed) the rest are destroyed and lay dead on the earth.

“When the Son of man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the [out of] nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you. . . . Then He will also say to those on the left hand, Depart from Me, you cursed” (Matt. 25:31-34, 41).

Christ will bring the reward with Him at His return. That is, He will have the power to grant immortality to whomsoever is worthy. “For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and then He will reward each according to his works” (Matt. 16:27). These words were spoken to His disciples during His ministry, and near the close of His last message to mankind He gave the same assurance to His Church: “Behold I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give every one according to his work” (Rev. 22:12).

2 Thessalonians 2:8

Berean Study Bible
And then the lawless one will be revealed (anti-christ), whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of His mouth and annihilate by the majesty of His arrival.

The lost living at that time (when 1st resurrection takes place) are destroyed by the brightness (glory) of His coming, along with the beast and false prophet. The lost (in the graves) stay asleep in the grave (until the 2nd resurrection) that happens 1,000 years later.

Revelation 19:17
16And He has a name written on His robe and on His thigh: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. 17Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out in a loud voice to all the birds flying overhead, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, 18so that you may eat the flesh of kings and commanders and mighty men, of horses and riders, of all men slave and free, small and great.”…

All (the lost living at the time of His coming) lay dead on the earth and are food for the birds.

1,000 years later the 2nd resurrection happens (of the lost) and things play out from there ...
