  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Biden might be in trouble.

That is quite a DNC message in its own right!

"We can put up any establishment flawed candidate we want and you have to vote for him/her or we will shame you."

I can't imagine why that didn't work last time.

Last time around it came out that Clinton bailed out the DNC, and took control of their PR before she was even the nominee. But folks should definitely not worry about that, because "Trump is worse."

Here is a thought. If the DNC is not able to have a process that selects someone people actually want to vote for, then they don't deserve people's vote.

People can vote their conscience, and not just whoever is least terrible among the two top parties.

I agree with most of what you've said. The DNC looks to have learned absolutely nothing from 2016 and are trotting out another very flawed establishment candidate. I don't support the DNC, and their primary process shows me they're still pushing the same old garbage.

That being said, I think Trump represents an existential threat to our democracy. Biden was really the worst candidate the Dems could have put forth (it's possible that upon additional scrutiny, 1 or 2 of them were somehow worse), but I can't take any action which adds risk to Trump winning another term. If it wasn't against Trump, I would absolutely be voting 3rd party to simply voice my displeasure with the two establishment parties.

Great. Now do you want the rest? How is Biden going to win them over?
Biden won't win Trump supporters.

That leaves 60% of the voting population up for grabs.

Biden will get everyone who wants to get Trump out of office. And with Trump's disapproval running at 52%+, the numbers look pretty good right now ...

Oh yeah, and to your children and grand children your message will be, "I know your still dealing with the supreme court due to my arrogance, but I sure showed the DNC." but given covid is around right now, it be pretty easy for trump in his second turn to turn the supreme court 7 to 7 republican. But your right sending a message is so much better. We know very likly he's getting ginsberg and at least 1 other.

The polling looks like at least as many Bernie supporters will not support Biden as didn't support Clinton last time.

So perhaps Joe and the DNC might want to figure that out.

Or more likely

"Yeah, those really were the choices the two main parties gave us. If more people would vote their conscience it could have been different."

The future hasn't happened yet. There is still time to not just do what either main party says and vote your conscience. It is only a wasted vote if everyone thinks they have to vote for the two main parties.

I am not morally culpable for the Democratic party clearing the deck for a person with a questionable record, and either an inability to speak clearly or mental decline.

What, shaming of progressives didn't work? We need MORE shaming.

Hint: The Biden campaign could offer some things they actually want to vote for.

Lowering the age of Medicare to 60 is probably not going to get it done.

Incidentally, not everyone who is concerned about progressive issues shares the same view on the court appointments.

I am anti-war
Pro medicare for all
Possibly UBI, depending on what the data says
I am concerned about the climate, but I don't know how much can be done with current tech, so would favor more development.
I am pro-criminal justice reform.
I support unions
I am for decriminalization of drugs, but increased support for rehab

I especially liked Yang's formulation of a VAT type tax that could support the above.

On the other hand, I am pro-life, and would much rather my judges limit themselves to what the constitution and the law says and so I would probably like Trump's appointments more than Biden's.

Lets see, when it came to closing states he told the govenors to do it, refused to take any part, then when on a insane, "Liberate X." when he felt they were not doing enough, and refuses to centralize help with PPE, and yet fema is stealing PPE...so maybe it's not a case of him doing nothing, it's just nothing helpful.
Whoa. That's just talk, not a review of the actual events which might have answered the question.

So why is it a voice over on the video until he actually gets off the bus? There is no image of him saying any of that at all...access pedowood, I mean access Hollywood and all...what you see and what you hear are two different things. I hear a voice...I see a bus???

You do know...those big wigs in pedowood want him dead and buried...just like the angry anti Trump hating mob...ulterior motives comes to mind.

Can't fake a tape...wonder why tape recordings are inadmissible in court?

You didn't hear ... with your own ears ... Trump's "Grab 'em ... " commentary ?
I wonder if you heard the full recording..

There's a difference between someone boasting, in private, about what loose women CONSENT to,
and actual sexual assault.

Complicated stuff, obviously..

Stop with that. I'm a man and none of my other friends talk like that. Just because your standards are so low, doesn't mean the rest of us set it that way.
Your virtue signalling doesn't change the fact that 'locker room talk' about what some women consent to, does not equal sexual assault.

What is meant when you label someone as "establishment"?

The establishment is generally representative of the status quo. Corporatist policies reinforcing already entrenched positions. Establishment candidates often push for nominal change while mostly keeping things as-is.

In that particular sentence you quoted, i'm labeling both the Democrats and Republicans parties, as "the establishment". Any third party would not be part of the establishment.

Within that framework, there are candidates who I would consider "establishment" candidates (such as Joe Biden) and candidates that represent a little more challenge to the status quo (such as Bernie). I wouldn't go as far as to call Bernie "anti-establishment", but it's clear, that the Democratic party, while they've welcomed Bernie into their tent and verbally support a good portion of his policy proposal (i.e. they pay lip service to his far left ideologies), doesn't consider Bernie as part of their core.

In that full tape, he not only brags about being able to grab women by their privates, he also says that "You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful - I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything"

This is "I just start kissing them" precedes his I can grab them by the privates comment.

He acknowledges that he does sexual acts on women without any attempt to signal consent.

Yes, i know.
It's what happens when you go out to party and you're attractive (either because of wealth / power or good looks etcetera) and you're popular with the ladies.
I used to boast (and exaggerate) about it too in my party days (when i still was an athletic (looking) hunk :sorry: ).
The magnetism is real, and when it's mutual, kissing occurs.
If not, you may get a drink in your face.

Well, I've heard when you have that kind of magnetism, you can grab ladies by their privates and they just let you. You can do anything.
