Hi all and welcome.

I have heard it argued that no one really knows what day is God's "SEVENTH DAY SABBATH" of God's 4th commandment so how can we really know what day the "SEVENTH DAY" is and that God only wants us to keep one day in seven every seventh day. I would like to explore this claim in detail through the scriptures and the historical records. Of course the bible alone triumps anything outside of the bible but the questions I am asking here is...

1. What day is God's "SEVENTH DAY SABBATH" according to the scriptures and our the equivallent day according to our calander that we have today in the changing of the names of the biblical days from 1-7 to Sunday, Monday.... etc? (Answered here 1. linked; Answered here 2. linked; Answered here 3. linked)

2. When does a day start in the biblical calander? (Answered here linked)

3. Has God's Sabbath been lost since JESUS and the APOSTLES? (Answered 1. here; 2. here; 3. here; 4. here; 5. here; 6. here; 7. here; 9. here; 9. here; 10. here; linked)

4. If God's 4th commandment "SEVENTH DAY SABBATH" has not been lost and there is no scripture that says it has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day, what do the scriptures teach are the consequences for knowingly breaking any one of God's 10 commandments?
(Answered here linked)

5. Is the "seventh day weekly Sabbath" of God's 4th commandment lost in the calander changes? (Answered here linked)

What scripture evidence do you have to support your claims?

Friendly discussion please

Blessings...

Is the word of God your God?

Is the Sabbath day your God?

Do you worship and keep the Sabbath day holy?

Here is my view in relation to the first question of the OP...

Q1. WHAT DAY IS THE SABBATH DAY ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES AND OUR EQUIVALLENT DAY TODAY?

The scriptures define God's Sabbath as the "SEVENTH DAY"...

EXODUS 20:8-10 [8], REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY [Made Holy at creation GENESIS 2:3]. [9], Six days shall you labor, and do all your work: [10], But THE SEVENTH DAY [ Genesis 2:1-3] IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD YOUR GOD

The origin of the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH coming from the SEVENTH DAY of the creation week...

GENESIS 2:1-3 [1], THIS THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH WERE FINISHED, AND ALL THE HOST OF THEM. [2], And ON THE SEVENTH DAY God ended his work which he had made; and he RESTED [שׁבת; shâbath H7673; Keep Sabbath] on the SEVENTH DAY from all his work which he had made.

.............

Answer: So according to the scriptures THE SEVENTH DAY OF THE WEEK IS THE SABBATH DAY *EXODUS 20:10; GENESIS 2:1-3

............

What is the SEVENTH DAY today according to our time and calender?

How to say "Saturday" in Hebrew

"I (masculine) do not work on Shabbat," or "I (feminine) do not work on Shabbat."

Online Etymology Dictionary (tracing word origins)
Saturday (n.)
seventh day of the week
, Old English sæterdæg, sæternesdæg, literally "day of the planet Saturn," from Sæternes (genitive of Sætern; see Saturn) + Old English dæg (see day). Partial loan-translation of Latin Saturni dies "Saturn's day" (compare Dutch Zaterdag, Old Frisian Saterdi, Middle Low German Satersdach; Irish dia Sathuirn, Welsh dydd Sadwrn). The Latin word itself is a loan-translation of Greek kronou hēmera, literally "the day of Cronus."

Unlike other English day names, no god substitution seems to have been attempted, perhaps because the northern European pantheon lacks a clear corresponding figure to Roman Saturn. A homely ancient Nordic custom, however, seems to be preserved in Old Norse laugardagr, Danish lørdag, Swedish lördag "Saturday," literally "bath day" (Old Norse laug "bath").

German Samstag (Old High German sambaztag) appears to be from a Greek *sambaton, a nasalized colloquial form of sabbaton "sabbath," also attested in Old Church Slavonic sabota, Polish sobota, Russian subbota, Hungarian szombat, French samedi.

I do not believe a Saturday or Sunday Sabbath is scriptural. These are fixed Sabbath days established by simply glancing at a wall calendar. However, in the very beginning God stated that He put lights in the heavens to "divide day from night, for signs and appointed times, for days and years (Genesis 1:14).Thus I believe our calendar which includes the Sabbath is to be determined by the luni-solar calendar; not the Gregorian calendar. The Sabbath I believe is determined by the occurrence of the New Moon which changes each month; thus correspondingly the Sabbath day is not the same day from month to month.

Scripture refers to the days of the week by number. Our present weekly calendar refers to names of false Gods; i.e., Saturday (Saturn's day).
We do not question these things as it has been taught and ingrained in all of us since childhood.
However, bear in mind Dan 7:25 - He shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and shall think to change the times and the law; and they shall be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time.

Obviously Israel in the Old Testament used the lunar cycle for the start of the month.

You are correct in that the Sabbath day was counted from the day of the full moon, thus the lunar calendar is not synchronized with the Papal, solar calendar.

The day of the full moon in Israel was a rest day also. Which is the critical point in this discussion.

Using a lunar calendar is the death blow to the concept of a continuous weekly cycle, as on a solar calendar.

Hi Oldmantook nice to see you and welcome here dear friend.

I have not finished the OP here but our time is indeed not God's time which I believe is defined in GENESIS 1-2. God's time is not from day to day as our calanders show but from evening to evening or sunset to sunset which makes up a day. The Seventh day Sabbath according to the scriptures co-inciding with our time is therefore sunset Friday to sunset Saturday.

The new moons do not determine the days of the week according to the scriptures the days of the week are a continous weekly cycle which is every seven days. Therefore according to the scripture God's SABBATH is every "SEVENTH DAY". *EXODUS 20:10.

The Sun and the Moon were given to determine times and seasons and God's annual sabbaths in feast days not God's 4th commandment Sabbath which is simply every "SEVENTH DAY" of the weekly cycle.

The JEWS have been keeping it this way for 1000 of years to this very present day.

God bless.

sunday is the sabbath friend

Thanks Jason for sharing your thoughts. Where does it say in the scriptures that Sunday is the Sabbath? As shown above here the scriptures in post # 7 linked says that the "SEVENTH DAY" is the Sabbath which is Satuday or specifically God's time being Friday sunset to Saturday sunset our time *GENESIS 1.

The full moon determined the first day of any month on a lunar calendar.

Continuous weekly cycles do not occur on a lunar calendar.

I find it troubling that folk do not understand the difference between a lunar calendar, and a solar calendar.

The full moon determined the first day of any month on a lunar calendar.

Continuous weekly cycles do not occur on a lunar calendar.

Not really David, the Sun and Moon were not created until the 4th day of the creation week so that puts down this theory which cannot be biblical. Also the 7 day week is a continous weekly cycle. The HEBREW word for sabbath simply means every "SEVENTH DAY". God's 4th commandment Sabbath is the same one that the JEWS, JESUS and the Apostles have been keeping for 1000's of years to this very present day. Go google what day is the JEWISH Sabbath.

God bless.
