  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Quit watching at 2:01, it's just going to be another campaign rally speech that's been toned down for the audience. It's more proof that he didn't get the message that he did anything wrong and that it was his actions that caused the whole mess.

tl;dr -- when it comes to Donald and prayer, I just need to know if he's asking people to pray with him, for him, or to him?

The rest is trivia.

Did anybody seriously think he would get the message?

It is a moderate GOP fantasy that he would. It is like they threw out the past three years.

You would kind of have to to stay a moderate Republican, wouldn't you?

I loved the interplay between Arthur Brooks and Trump.

In an address delivered at the 68th National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., conservative author Arthur Brooks encouraged biblical love amid a nationwide “crisis of contempt and polarization,” reminding attendees that Jesus ordered His followers to love — and not just tolerate — their enemies.

And Trump's response was something like 'Arthur, I'm not sure I agree with that. You're probably not going to like what I have to say.'

ETA:

The contrast between Trump and Brooks was stark: Brooks addressed traditional Christian themes during his remarks, urging attendees to “love your enemies” and transcend “contempt.” Trump, however, began his speech by saying, “Arthur, I don’t know if I agree with you.”

“As everybody knows, my family, our great country, and your president have been put through a terrible ordeal by some very dishonest and corrupt people,” Trump lamented. “They have done everything possible to destroy us, and by so doing, very badly hurt our nation.”

Trump thrives on contempt and conflict. His entire campaign is based on the worst of human instincts.

“[The same Jesus] who taught us to love God and taught us to love each other,” he added. “Today, I’m here to talk to you about the biggest crisis facing our nation and many other nations today: It’s the crisis of contempt and polarization that’s tearing our societies apart.”

“In this crisis resides the greatest opportunity we have ever had as people of faith to lift our nations up and to bring our people together,” Brooks declared

While I understand his frustration and having to put up with the complete idiocy of countless investigations over the least three years, capped by an impeachment based on hearsay.

I don’t think it was appropriate to bring it into the prayer meeting.

Are you surprised that he did it, however?

I'm not.

If his remarks at the Prayer Breakfast haven't convinced people that he still doesn't believe he did anything wrong they should read his remarks before a group of Republicans.
Threats, misogyny, hypocrisy — Trump’s bonkers post-impeachment speech had a little of everything

Does Trump believe that he is capable of doing wrong?

As I recall, he once said that he had done nothing for which he needed forgiveness.

Trump is the narcissist that he has always been.

Should Trump be criticized for being who is?

Or should we, the evangelical right, and Congress be criticized for accepting such nonsense, and for expecting him to change?

As an aside< i understand and respect those Republicans who say that much of what Trump has done is wrong, but that the actions do not rise to the level of impeachment, especially in an election year.

Removing a president for the first time in the history of the country should require a bi-partisan effort, as Pelosi used to say so often.

Does Trump believe that he is capable of doing wrong?

"We can't let that go on", he says about 3 minutes in, in reference to his opponents criticizing and trying to remove him from office (because apparently to hurt our great God-King Trump is to hurt America itself).

Well, I'll bet the 2nd Amendment folk can do something about that!

Even for Trump I can scarcely believe that not two minutes in he makes this meeting all about himself.

Oh please...!

Like every Trump adorer, you know that he did what he was accused of.

Drop the pretence...
