I am of the opinion you should never trust anyone unless you have good reason to do so. We hear time and time again how some people are taken in by scams.

This is my story.

Nearly 20 years ago I met a Christian woman from Florida on-line. I was stupid enough to fall for her sob story. If she had actually asked me for money I would have been suspicious, but she was cleverer than that. I sent her approx £1000 in American dollars. When she realised no more would be forthcoming, she made an excuse to fallout with me. I discovered other posters had been as daft as I had been, and parted with their cash. Since then I have never trusted anyone I have only met on-line. I only trust people I know in person if they have proved themselves to be good, decent people.

Some years later I got an e-mail from the woman. She claimed she was in London, and hand lost her handbag and money. She wanted me to lend her £2000, which she said she would pay back. After telling her exactly what I thought of her, I blocked her e-mails.

Have other posters been taken for a ride?

That has been the story of my life, sad to say.
But God got me through it, and supplied what I had lost.
So eventually I learned to only supply what I could afford to loose.

Maybe you stole that amount in a previous life and you had to pay it back.:)

  • God warns us not to trust in man and tells we will be cursed if we do.
  • Jesus showed how little He trusted humanity.
  • God tells us that the human heart is DECEITFUL BEYOND CURE.
  • Jesus wants us to be wise and shrewd in our relationships.
IN GOD'S "HANDBOOK"FOR US TO PROTECT/BLESS US WE FIND:

  • Jer 17:5-6 you will be cursed if you trust in humanity

  • Prov 28:26 humans are cursed if they believe in themselves

  • Nu 23:19 God is not a liar as humans

  • Isa 2:22 don't put your trust in mere humans

  • Jer 17:9 human heart deceitful, beyond cure

  • Jn 2:23-25 but Jesus, knowing man's, humanities' heart

  • Matt 10:16 Jesus, knowing the evil human heart warned His disciples to be "shrewd as vipers/snakes" in their dealings
To trust in humanity is to say that man/woman must be perfect and in control of all variables and factors and able to stop anything and anyone in this world or from beyond from stopping him/her from coming through. Yeah, RIGHT.

You trusted in your humanity to discern "truth" from a human heart which I would say we all struggle with time to time, at least. A devious heart trusting in another devious heart??? Man made redemption as another has already put forward???

My 2 cents anyway

I honestly don't intend to blame any victims. But it amazes me when I hear news reports of folks who are still being swindled by internet and robocall scams. I know that some victims are elderly, and may have a degree of cognitive impairment. But wouldn't you think that with all the publicity these crimes have generated, most people would be wary?

Many times we are victims of ourselves and we need to identify that; other than blame someone else as a scapegoat. It is the only way of stopping it from reoccurring and a GOOD friend, a real friend will risk the relationship and rejection and hurt to tell someone who they regard as friend such. The recognition/identification of the root cause is the beginning of healing. I would think it a careless sin to enable one to presume that the problem is caused by another without self-examination.

I wish that I had had a real friend to throw me up against a wall if need be decades ago to help me see my error in trusting in man, even in the church, for example, there many other things; but is an example.

Are you not talking about believing?

Trusting is something else, trusting in someone that they will deliver on what they promise.

Therefore it is not wise to trust man, who knows not when they will die.

David describes his immense trust in G-d;

Psalms 118:8.

We all believe something or other, daily.

Believing or faith is the beginning the root,

but it must grow into trust.

There plenty of con- artists,
this world is a market place.

Extreme Christians are some of the biggest con artists I have come across in my life. They talk the talk but their lives leave a lot to be desired.

I would think any extremist (fill in the blanks)

is/are not up for reasoning.

Something like an obsession it would seem.

You did the right thing by cutting contact. That's the only way to go in this situation.

What exactly do you mean about "extreme Christians?" That could mean a lot of different things depending upon a lot of different variables.

The ones who believe that you have to be 'saved' or you will go to hell.

If what was written about him had any basis in fact, which is doubtful, imo.
Well it’s easy to object to lack of facts without presenting any yourself. As you said, your opinion.

I’m sorry you got ripped off by a scammer. They’ll tell you anything you want to hear if you give them enough info. She obviously was not a Christian but a scammer.

There is one lady that comes to mind when the board was fairly new that was always asking for money here. She too claimed to be a Christian. Eventually people caught on and she was banned.

Christianity doesn't make you a good person, anymore than being a non Christian makes you a bad one.

It should. And does if it is sincere. But that’s not the topic of your op is it? Or maybe it is...
