Today where I am it's sunny, with a top of 22 degrees (Celsius). Right now (2pm) it's about 19 degrees, which is pleasant enough for me to be sorry that I have so much admin work keeping me at my desk.

Fortunately, I am nowhere near the massive bushfires raging up north; which would have been grounds for you to miss work.

That is actually a good point, no reason in living in a perfect nation if weather or natural disaster destroys your home.

As I write there are huge uncontrolled bushfires around 20 km west (inland) of me and a smaller controlled fire to the north. We've had a thin pall of smoke, showers of white ash and a sprinkling of partly burnt leaves continuously for the last six days. Everything stinks of smoke. Everything is coated with ash. These fires are throwing smoke, ash and embers 20-30 km. On Friday the world here turned bright orange from sunlight filtered through smoke particles in the atmosphere.

Today the wind's died and the temperature dropped and we're all feeling a little more secure- but the smoke is back. If the wind picks up in the wrong direction, the way out may be a long swim in the Pacific.

Eta - switched the link out, which is a tad unfortunate because the original really conveyed the message the best, but I realized a no-no word was in it. Oh well at least Aryeh had liked this before I had to make the switch so he saw the original!

Also wanted to add! Just think of all the other ways we could continue that example of how great we are! We could let anyone rise up to be a pilot, no need for a license! Let anyone be a surgeon! Medical school is overrated and (and super expensive in the US)!

Good Lord no! They might actually accomplish something. Where is the entertainment value in that? After Trump was elected, I was able to cancel my subscription to Comedy Central.
