That's what stood out to me as well (and it was practically a FULL container).(The MILK was left out?)

It turns my stomach to think about that being placed back into the fridge now - and someone later unknowingly taking a big gulpI agree. Milk is NEVER to be left out. It spoils reeeeeeally easily.

I would imagine that'd be a frustrating scenario to walk in on. That may not have been the best way to confront it - but it seems as if "duty with the kids" would include more supervision than what this appears.
How old are the children? I'm not sure why you leap to your sweetheart owing you an apology. Wouldn't you "owe" an apology first (although I'm not a fan of that language of obligation)?

Do you mean your "sweetheart" got home immediately after you left (meaning - within 10 minutes)? Thanks for your reply. Milk was left out for only 10 minutes. Keep the discussion coming! Thank you!

It looks like it's time for a family meeting.

Ummmmm....did you supervise the kids?
That does seem old enough to respond to a sort of check list of responsibility on their part ("did you all put things away after eating?"). But then, I believe, the adult in charge should do a quick check of things before leaving the house (assuming you all left - did you?). When you say you were "on duty with the kids" - do you mean your "sweetheart" was gone from the home and you were home with them (I don't want to make assumptions)? Thanks for your reply. Kids are 12, 5, 9, and 7. Keep the discussion coming! Thank you!

Well, I guess maybe I didn't go to the kitchen before I left.

I mean, kids will be kids. My daughter has been leaving her shoes, hair ties, school stuff, etc. all over the place lately and after a few talks it really brought order to the home. She's picking up after herself again and putting things away. A few polite talks to get everybody on the same page will likely serve as a remedy.
