AN MLB umpire tweeted about buying an assault rifle over the impeachment inquiry

Umpire Rob Drake tweeted late Tuesday that he planned to buy an AR-15 rifle "because if you impeach MY PRESIDENT this way, YOU WILL HAVE ANOTHER CIVAL WAR!!! #MAGA2020," according to a copy of the tweet obtained by ESPN.

Drake has since deactivated his Twitter account.

Major League Baseball officials learned about Drake's comments on Wednesday, according to a statement. The league said it contacted the Major League Baseball Umpires Association (MLBUA) and had "begun to look into it."

Twitter itself should probably be deactivated by this point. It seems like whenever anyone gets in trouble, it's related to something going on with Twitter. I've seen honest-to-God ISIS propaganda accounts on Twitter. I guess they get by with it because they post in Arabic. Then you have people like this guy, who take their partisan politics into a potentially violent direction.

(Plus, then the president couldn't tweet. Could you imagine? Could you imagine how it would be if we went back to how things were before three years ago?)

What I don’t get is what Trump has actually done to get such undying commitment from such a sizable portion of his base. I mean... people really liked Obama (and still do) but I don’t remember anyone threatening a civil war to shield him from any perceived criticism.

Come on man, "civil" isn't even a hard word to spell correctly.
I usually assume it’s intentional. Most phones autocorrect to the right word, especially if you’re typing in a word that doesn’t exist at all. At least with an iPhone, you have to manually go back and retype the word incorrectly for it to stick.

People who like(d) Obama tend to be sane and rational. But you knew that ;)

What I don’t get is what Trump has actually done to get such undying commitment from such a sizable portion of his base.

Trump is the ideal for a certain sort of person whose life hasn't lived up to his entitled expectations. The temporarily embarrassed millionaire. Trump is their Messiah, out there grabbing women's bodies and spewing bigotry on behalf of all of them. Jim Croce knew the type.

Well, I had just got out from the county prison
Doin' ninety days for non-support
Tried to find me an executive position
But no matter how smooth I talked
They wouldn't listen to the fact that I was genius
The man say, „we got all that we can use"
Now I got them steadily depressin', low down mind messin'
Working at the car wash blues

Well, I should be sittin' in an air conditioned office
In a swivel chair
Talkin' some trash to the secretaries
Sayin', „here, now mama, come on over here"
Instead, I'm stuck here rubbin' these fenders with a rag
And walkin' home in soggy old shoes
With them steadily depressin', low down mind messin'
Workin' at the car wash blues

You know a man of my ability
He should be smokin' on a big cigar
But 'til I get myself straight I guess I'll just have to wait
In my rubber suit rubbin' these cars

Well, all I can do is to shake my head
You might not believe that it's true
For workin' at this end of Niagara Falls
Is an undiscovered Howard Hughes
So baby, don't expect to see me
With no double martini in any high brow society news
'Cause I got them steadily depressin', low down mind messin'
Workin' at the car wash blues

Back in the day of Harper's Ferry, John Brown was a white man. A Protestant minister. He was vocal that slavery was never going to end in the US peacefully. He did not preach "civil disobedience"--he and his sons participated in the Underground Railroad, and they participated in actions (plus orchestrated them altogether) which resulted in freed slaves, including in Bloody Kansas. The actions were not peaceful. The Civil War happened about a year-and-a-half after Harpers Ferry. The Emancipation happened about a year-and-a-half after that.

All this to say: yes, it is likely Trump is not going to be removed peacefully. Sorry, that's just the way it is. Do you want "peace" by standing down from the bully, or do you want to be American and stand for your freedom?

How Trump leaves office, in order of likelihood, highest first:
1. Trump voted out in 2020
2. Dies naturally in office after 2021 inauguration
3. Trump removed by Senate following impeachment, goes peacefully
4. Terms-out in 2024
5. Assassinated
6. Trump removed by Senate following impeachment, supporters rally with violence which is put down.
7. Trump removed by Senate following impeachment, supporters rally with violence which successfully installs him as a sort of monarch.

Not likely at all.

Trump tainted the election process in 2016 and is doing so again in 2020, and nothing is being done about it. He's not going to get "voted" out. For that matter, the election process will probably not even get cleaned up peacefully.

Has the system failed then? Has a democracy taken over a republic?
