Beware of what is going on i say.

Remember that when Jesus came across anyone acting like that, He immediately ordered the evil spirit to come out of the person!

why is there jerking and shaking in worship services?
People rely far too much on the ecstasy of working themselves up into an emotional state during some Church's worship. This can in fact become an addiction, and a dangerous one. Many of these Churches try to create emotionally manipulative music and services to create this.

The Christian is meant to be free of passion, and rely on the quiet prayer fullness the Holy Spirit brings. Teaching kids that the Holy Spirit is present by evidence of people breaking down into tears and lifting their hands in the air is a destructive heresy. It makes the less emotional children feel as if they do not have the Holy Spirit because they are not affected by the "worship". Christ said to pray in a place not seen by others. Does waving your hands around and trying to look as spiritual as possible accomplish this? Is it of humility, or of pride?

not humility nor pride, it is just a state of mind

I made a joke earlier, but now I want to seriously respond.

I don't shake and jerk, but I have rocked back and forth. While working on a kibbutz at Ramat Rachel between Jerusalem and Bethlehem, one of the Jews saw me praying outside. I was rocking back and forth and he was delighted to see me pray that way since the Jews believe they must use their whole body to pray. I had no idea that they thought that. I was rocking back and forth simply because I was deep in prayer.

I came to Christ in the Assemblies of God which is a Pentecostal, Spirit filled congregation that believes in the gifts of the Spirit with speaking in tongues. I speak in tongues. However, I have never jerked nor shook. I have no idea whether that is the Holy Spirit, a demon, or a Christian wanting to be seen as though "powerfully" moved by the Spirit. My experience in that denomination has been to see that there are spiritual people and carnal people in the group. I have also been in Baptist congregations for many years, and I have seen the same there, too. Not jerking and shaking, but spiritual and carnal people.

I would not limit the Spirit by telling him he can't prompt people to act in ways that may seem unusual to some. I came up in some "Holy Roller" churches. It's not all fake.
Derek Prince said that if rolling makes us holy, then let's roll!

Jerking is a more modern phenomenon that started, to my knowledge, in the Bethel church. It is not found in the New Testament. My view is that someone in a service had a tourette (involuntary spasm that happens to people), and it was mistakenly seen as something that came from the Holy Spirit, so in order for people to think they are more spiritual doing it, people copied it, and it became an integral component of what is thought are Holy Spirit manifestations.

In revival environments, shaking or trembling is seem more in those under intense conviction of sin when the gospel has been preached to them in power. It is shaking and trembling in fear before a holy God when they realised that they are vile sinners deserving of hell. Falling on the face is another manifestation that results from intense conviction of sin. The trouble is that the manifestations have been distorted in that some people hype themselves up, believing that these are necessary for the assurance that the Holy Spirit is present and moving among them.

Trying to achieve some "state of mind" is pride in itself, that the Holy Spirit somehow needs catchy music and fiery preaching in order to move the heart. People get so used to that, that when the dry spells come, when prayer is hard, or when they are suffering from despondency- that they slide away from the faith because they think the problem is with them. The early church kept things very simple with music and preaching, so as to keep the passions of both the people, and those in charge of the services, at bay.

No one at my church does that I'm aware of. Clapping and swaying to music and raising hands is the most I see. But that still bothers me, because people tend to always raise their hands at the same points in the music which makes me think it's not so much the words affecting them but the tune...

People will say "Amen!" at any point during the service and I've seen a couple people kneel where they're sitting or bow in the pew.

I’m not one to judge however, I believe a lot of the times it’s “herd” mentality. I don’t mean that in a degrading sense. As humans we need to get influenced when we’re in a crowd of people sometimes unconsciously.

Let all things be done decently and in order.

Does it appear as though it is in order when it happens?
Does it have a Purpose, or is it just said to be the Power of the Holy Spirit?
Is it Scriptural?
Paul was quite plain about where the real power of the Holy Spirit is. He said that the gospel of Christ is the power of God unto salvation to those who believe.

It seems to me that people who try to divert the power of the Holy Spirit (which I doubt is the power of the Holy Spirit at all), allow the "steam" to go out through the whistle, so that there is nothing left to actually wins souls for Christ.

It is quite noticeable that many meetings where there are a lot of manifestations, that the true gospel of Christ giving the need for conviction of sin and receiving Christ on the basis of the finished work of the cross, is hardly, if at all, mentioned. But the motivation for receiving Christ that is given is that He will make them prosperous, give guaranteed healing, "feel good" experiences, spiritual gifts, pretty girls for single men, supportive family-type environment, etc.
