Hold onto your butts, folks. Today, Trump tried to defend his comments about Alabama by using an old forecast that had been augmented with Sharpie:

Trump displays map with Dorian's original path extended toward Alabama

If you hit 1080p mode on the video, you can see that the prediction on the chart is from 11AM Thursday, which was Aug 29. He didn't make his comment about Alabama until 3 days later on Sep 1.

Actually he's onto something here. I'd love to blame some of the stuff I've said on other people - alternative facts have a silver lining methinks.

Some people have remarked that they prefer truth over facts. 22though I cannot see hoe truth can come out of denial of facts, I can see how there might be additional /alternative facts that might change one's understanding of a situation if one's previous understanding was mistaken due to lack of complete information. For instance one might see me walk away from a store furtively with an item under my coat and assume I was in the act of absconding with merchandise I had stolen, but when given the additional facts that I was hiding a present, which I had just purchased, from my wife who showed up at the store unexpectedly then one's understanding of the situation changes completely. When more than one fact is needed to understand what has happened and one fact in isolation gives an incorrect impression of a situation then alternative facts can clear this up. Not an alternative to facts but additional facts that give an alternative understanding of what has happened.

The fact is that Trump put out bogus information about the impact of an impending hurricane. At best, his information was outdated and his tweet careless. The truth is that he screwed up.

I agree with that. Trump often says things that he has no reasonable explanation for. He and Biden are much same in that regard , along with many other politicians . They both, along with a bunch of other politicos and more than a few that call themselves journalists and at least one actor do not seem to be all that concerned with being factual as long as they think they have illustrated what they consider to be their point. I simply find it simplistic to consider that alternative facts must be a fiction that is an alternative to the facts. As I pointed out one fact may rectify what another fact caused one to misunderstand. Knowing only one fact about a situation is not sufficient in all cases.

Now this was worth getting out of bed for.

According to U.S. Code Title 18, “Whoever knowingly issues or publishes any counterfeit weather forecast or warning of weather conditions falsely representing such forecast or warning to have been issued or published by the Weather Bureau, United States Signal Service, or other branch of the Government service, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ninety days, or both.”

In other words, showcasing weather trajectories that are wrong is a federal offense.

Trump Slams ABC for Reporting His Mistaken Statement that Dorian Could Affect Alabama

Wasn't this the same President who decided to forgo his trip to Poland over the weekend so that he could be constantly updated about the progress of Hurricane Dorian?

Trump doesn't need ABC as his primary source, he has advisors from the federal meteorological department to ensure that he is fully informed throughout the day - everyday!

For Trump to produce a false whether map rather than admit that he made a mistake about Dorian headed toward Alabama only reveals how deceitful he can be!

Never stand between a Trump and his ego....
He also slammed an innocent pastor in his drive-by tweet (since deleted - don't admit your mistakes or apologize for them, delete 'em!)

'I'm a victim of a drive-by tweet': Kentucky pastor mistakenly flamed by miffed Trump
CourierJournal said:
Surprising to perhaps no one, the media correction did not sit well with the commander-in-chief....At 7:12 p.m. MonCarl, who has served at South Fork Baptist Church in Hodgenville since 2011, was suddenly and unknowingly thrown into the Trump Twitterverseday, Trump berated the "phony hurricane report by @jonathancarl," accidentally mentioning the Kentucky pastor instead of "@jonkarl" with ABC News.

...Carl, who has served at South Fork Baptist Church in Hodgenville since 2011, was suddenly and unknowingly thrown into the Trump Twitterverse

Of course, Donald fans decided to give this @jonathancarl a piece of their unfortunate minds:
JonathanKarl said:
"Politics aside, I've seen a lot of the stuff the president puts out there. The people who receive that from him, you get the crazy responses," Carl said. "There is a lot of hatred out there in the world, and it's sad when somebody's that negative and picking on people pretty consistently."

"People should choose kindness instead of being hateful," Carl said. "It goes a long way."
Seems like a decent, level-headed guy (Carl, not Donald).

No one else is like Trump. Any other President would have left the details up to those who actually know what they are talking about....

I almost feel sorry for the acting DHS Secretary....who was used as a supporting prop (wonder what was going through his mind as his boss doubled down):

He doesn't give one diddly dang to the fact that he's caused folks in Alabama to get scared over nothing. I used to live right on the GA-AL border, know lots of folks throughout the state. They didn't just roll their eyes at Donald being Donald. They took it as them needing to prepare for a hurricane like never seen before (on account of Donald making it sound that way, forgetting about the previous cat 5s).

Folks on the coastal areas planning on evacuating to Alabama paused in their tracks. All on account of Donald feeling the need to be right when he's flat-out dead wrong. Literally dead wrong.

The problem would be a prosecutor demonstrating that Donald knows something about the real world. Seems like an uphill battle.

If they can figure out who took a sharpie to the map, proving they knowingly created a counterfeit would seem to easy since, why would you alter the official forecast?
