No doubt this President has changed the political landscape in a drastic manner. Lots of headlines going every which way. But for this thread, just state ONE thing that you think has been the biggest downside so far since inauguration.

Please, no praise or adulation in this thread. Also, do not flame the President.

I'll start, biggest letdown has to be the sheer hypocrisy that we all seem to just let skate by. Claiming his rhetoric isn't divisive and then not a day later will just blow it up in smoke and make comments that appear very racist and/or divisive. Trust in what people say should be important, but now it's just say whatever you want, then deny it happened and move on. The President sets the example and tone for a lot of the nation, and it's clear the tone is not honorable.

His policies are one thing. I think the character of the man says a lot more about us as a country than any policy he might clumsily put through or undo from his predecessors.

I think the country owes Nixon an apology for what we’ve put up with from Trump.

Perhaps this is more in line with the idea of "I don't care who you are, just what you can do for me." That sentiment seems to be getting traction. And the "what you can do for me" part doesn't even have to be moral, ethical, or have any regard to how it might affect others. That's not cool in my book.

It's distressing and horrifying that it was necessary for a court to uphold the ruling that children held at border must have adequate food, bedding, sanitation. That this had to be explained to the Trump administration, that a fight for it was needed, so vulnerable children can be treated with a base level of humanity:
“Assuring that children eat enough edible food, drink clean water, are housed in hygienic facilities with sanitary bathrooms, have soap and toothpaste, and are not sleep-deprived are without doubt essential to the children’s safety,” the court said.

Matthew 25:40 comes to mind.

I'm very short on time at the moment, so this is all I'm adding for now. I have much more to write!

Every week there's something new, and it's always worse than the last thing. Right now, what I'm most disgusted by is his tacit approval of the inhumane conditions in which ICE keeps detained immigrants. It's been argued that the way he talks about and describes immigrants directly contributes to events like the El Paso massacre.

He's shaping policy to benefit only himself and his rich cronies, and he's using conman tactics to sell it to the lower classes. It's hard to believe how many people fell for it.

I deplore his seeming disregard for the truth. There seem to be a couple of reasons.

The first is ignorance. He doesn't like to read and disregards his intelligence briefings. To a degree he is actually uneducated. He covers this by making things up on the fly.

The second has to do with his narcissistic personality. He will say anything if he thinks it will attract attention to him or gain him some momentary advantage or adulation.

He lies.

Tbh I have tried to hold on to the idea (delusion?) that his random approach might actually have some long term benefits, but that seems increasingly unlikely. Really though, Trump is only guilty of being himself. The people who put him in power will bear the responsibility for what ultimately happens as a result.

Yes, it is not his fault. He is a reflection of the country. If we were better he would not be in the White House or any elected office.

I don't understand why people have marked my comment as funny. I explicitly was rooting for Trump as president to have him usher in a nuclear winter.

Not his style I think. His is more break everything then blame the fallout on whoever comes next. Economic fallout. War could have some personal impact on him, whereas just trashing any agreements and stirring the pot only affects other people’s lives.

Where would the first target be? Middle east somewhere?

Accelerationist? Or just wanting to watch the world burn?

Well, obviously a place that has nukes, too.

I had hoped he'd either attack Iran or NK and have Russia or China step in.

Just mankind. The rest of the world is alright.
Well, I hate to break it to you, but nuclear detonation and fallout great enough to destroy mankind would also wipe out much of whatever other life exists on Earth as well... not all of it, but much.
