I have come to the conclusion that I am too unique to date. I Doubt I will get along with a other person in dating or marriage because of my uniqueness. For example, I dislike watching t.v or movies and I don’t think that I will find anyone who does not watch tv or movies. I guess I am to remain single in the name of Jesus.

If God wants you married he will provide just the right person for you. I know a lot of people who don't watch tv and are not into movies. If you set your mind to that you might hinder Gods will for you..

You’re not alone in your difference. I avoid all forms of entertainment marketed to mainstream society and limit my music consumption to classical and jazz (instrumental).

You needn’t stop dating or believe your complement will feel the same. There will be areas of agreement and difference.

And yes, there’s great peace and contentment in singleness when you’re aligned with God’s will and timing. Few can say the same about being alone. Most are unhappy.

I don't consider it a difference or a uniqueness, we all have our likes and dislikes. We are all unique people in Gods eyes. We would be a boring lot if we all were the same.

I too like classical and some jazz. I dislike the way the media tries to get me to dislike or be disappointed in my situation and or makes me mad.

Yes, I’ve noticed the same and that’s why I avoid activities frequented by the mainstream because the messages are often subversive.

I watched The Master’s Championship earlier this year. I know the sport and play too. Everything surrounding the event from the players and broadcasters to the advertisements and sound bytes reinforced a theme. It was pleasant.

But The Kentucky Derby really drove home the point. The nostalgia and numerous tales of family tradition with commercials mirroring the same lent the impression of times long past. It was wholesome.

An NBA game followed and it was a different world. Every message communicated something grittier. There were no examples of families or wholesome stories shared.

One might cite the difference in demographics but that’s the point. I don’t encounter those themes at the symphony or the opera. Nor at horse racing, golf, equestrian or sailing events.

None of the hobbies or interests of the leisure class are subject to those themes. I limit myself to activities whose representation and advertisement reiterate positive themes and avoid those which don’t.

This does wonders for your intellect and cultural aptitude. :)

"Too unique to date"?

Well now I've heard it all. I mean, I guess you'll probably be proven right so long as you keep thinking that, and especially if you continue to write about it on the internet... :D

Or I am refining what I am already thinking. I agree the ads on most sports on t.v are not family friendly or make it seem like the drinking is what everyone does to have fun which in most cases is not true.

That’s wise. The idea with most entertainment is mindless viewing. It sounds like you’re exercising discernment which is a mark of maturity.

Have you been chided for your unwillingness to behave as others do?

No not yet. I am interested in finding my compete self in Jesus and what makes me unique in Christ’s eyes.

I think a God-focused approach is best. Your refinement will smooth the path and help to distinguish the qualities you desire in a partner and what you wish to give in return.

I’ve reached the point where I understand Paul’s words and why he preferred to remain alone. I didn’t grasp the fullness of the division he spoke of because I was dwelling on the gain.

But living with little cares save my own and the absence of stresses and demands has opened my eyes.

I’m blessed to have this time to myself. :)

"Too unique" is too vague. Everyone is unique.

I'm far more unique than you, and far less likely to ever find anyone to like me than you.

MINDLESS viewing? I wouldn't go as far as to say that. I can understand not having interest in main stream pop culture...I have met a few people like this as they are typically too antsy to sit through a movie or TV show and prefer traveling, seeing art galleries, etc.

Everyone has their own interest.

However, I'm a movie junkie myself and to suggest it as "mindless viewing" is a little out there and in fact, what I'm seeing discussed here, I'm just kind of shaking my head as how as to some of the things being discussed here is pretty close to...tin foil hat way of thinking.

What's wrong with enjoying a good story or good story telling?

I spent time with a devout Christian woman last night. She's a major TV/Entertainment enthusiast. I was kind of surprised about it, but thank heavens we could relate to each other in a sense. lol. Shared interests does help keep the conversation going.

Of course, her having majored in theater arts led to her immersion into good story telling.

Also...subversive? Really? Where do you come up with this?

I'm curious as to what Christians here that actually enjoy watching a movie thinks about what's being posted here.

PS.. I mean, I hope I don't seem to offend anyone with the "tin foil hat" comment, but that's the best analogy I could come up with.

I'm not a big TV watcher. Maybe I'll catch new Star Trek episodes, or the news if there's a storm, but my television doesn't see much use. The fact that I do watch it sometimes, yet remain blissfully ignorant about popular shows often bewilders people. Reality TV? No thanks! Game of Thrones? Never seen it, and don't plan to start now. It's a timesink, and I'm a busy guy.

Although I watch YouTube, and have favorite channels like Seth's Bike Hacks and Hoovie's Garage, much of my time on there is spent listening rather than watching. I might have philosophical, theological, and political lectures playing the background while I do other things. It's also where I get much of my music.
