  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What would it take to make you a Christian?

The way I see it, you're > approaching your deity and the eternal life he allegedly offers > for the end goal of achieving peace and contentment for yourself.

As a Buddhist, I exclude the middle two (deity/eternal life) as unknowable & irrelevant, and work towards the final goal itself (perfect peace & contentment).
Good luck.

Self satisfaction.

To be honest, in my 67 years I've had a happy and generally stress-free life. l've never felt my life lacked anything because I didn't believe in some mythical supernatural god. I'm in good health, I have a loving wife and family, and I had a satisfying career that's afforded me a measure of financial security. I don't fear death. I worked 40+ years in health care, and I know it's a natural part of life. I accept it. Maybe I've just been lucky. But if any kind of god exists, for some reason it's been very good to this non-believer.

Some people need a god. Some don't. But can't we all be friends?

A friendly warning: Wealth or poverty does not get a person life immortal in heaven.

Oh...thanks. You just brought up yet another one. Your really good at bringing up things that it would take for me to become a Christian. This time around it's "getting" something from God. In this case, "immortal life". I see that as an incredibly self centered approach to the Divine. And not at all what I see my spiritual life as being about or something I could be a part of.

Believe whatever you wish. A friendly reality check: There is no eternal life heaven for anyone. Neither is there eternal punishment in hell. Both are ancient myths.

Some people I suspect are open if they found some reasons to believe (evidence), and other people have reasons to disbelieve that would trump any evidence.

I used to be a very passionate, lifelong Christian. I left it behind only when multiple reasons to doubt built up over time. Asking me to become a Christian (again) would be like asking me to become a flat-earther. I could only do that if I denied everything which shows me it is false.

God said He evolved. The missing links are missing, the living fossils are still the same, dino bones not identified as such were carbon dated between 6000 to 12000 years old, and DNA fragments have been found in dinos that are said to be millions of years old.

You have been taken for a ride. Have a nice day.

God gives warning that the bible would be tampered with.

If you feel like sharing the reasons, that would be interesting. There are different types of reasons for doubting and disbelieving Christianity and they require different types of rebuttals - in some cases there is no conceivable rebuttal. Furthermore, there are different types of Christianity and a reason that kills one type of Christianity may only slightly wound another type of Christianity.

Could you expand what you mean? How does this relate to my comment?
I am not allowed to discuss many subjects on this forum. If you send me a PM I could give you a link to some answers.

I'd need a direct and clear revelation from God itself.

Been an atheist for about 10 years now (since January 2010), and agnostic/seeker (at least my own definition) about a year and a half before that. As I grow older, I begin to wonder how I was ever a theist in the first place.

In other words you are seeking a miracle. You will have your miracle in the second resurrection.

Nothing. I do not believe. I either know or don't know something, the rest is pure speculations. No place for faith, faith is deception.

Matthew 11:20
Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent.

Luke 11:29
As the crowds increased, Jesus said, “This is a wicked generation. It asks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.
