The greatest failure of science is selling the name of science to support modern mythology, while failing to be real science or even a decent myth.
Interesting - to what are you referring?

Capital S Science isn't failing it's doing exactly what it was meant to do, dethrone God in the minds of many and become a one world religion. Lower case s science is just a method for describing natural phenomena we observe.

Science isn't the failure, it's the non-scientists using science apart from philosophy to promote an agenda.

I think Dr. Frankenstein was responsible for his monster.

There's no threat here, believing in something someone says because they have a lab coat without any way to verify their claims is FAITH. You have faith just in something different then I do. At the end of the day your still clinging to faith in something.

The scientific method cannot fail as all possible outcomes are available. Ie, a probability of yes, a probability of no, or its somewhere in the middle and cannot be determined.

Hypothesis can and do fail all the time, this means science wins.

Stats fail too, especially when there are corrupting influences leading one to play games with data sets or even the conclusions based upon said data... and rather than seeking to reduce or eliminate corruption, society chooses to increase the probability of it occurring. Its very easy to look at science theoretically as a pure type thing... until publications determines if someone gets tenure or not. Until an experiments success or failure determines if one looses a bonus or not, or gets fired or not, or the entire business succeeds or fails. I've had to make that call, and its not a fun place to be when you know the investors are going to shut everything down and you and your friends will loose their shirts.

Things can fail towards the front end too, by intentionally, or unintentionally restricting initial conditions, followed by failing to publish this which often means the study can't be replicated. This happens in medicine where in the sickest of sick patients either can't participate, or end up having to leave mid way, due to their condition... and then you get papers extorting the virtues of snake oil A being better than narcotics for pain. Replication over time will fix this when someone finally says, hey, folks are self selecting out of the study, it needs to be redesigned from the get go. Science still win's, but I do feel for all those taking snake oil A until it does.

The greatest failure of science of late which has led to untold numbers of deaths is the work of Andrew Wakefield.

When people complain about failures of science they generally don't mean real ones it's more along the lines of, "Science refuses to accept my pet theory about X." such as creationism or such. Science gets things ocasionally wrong such as Komodo dragons, or wolf packs and such, but things like that tend to be more a case of accepting one persons claims as fact, but not testing it beyond that, but the big things like evolution, cosmology and such, there are as many people in science trying to prove as disprove using science.

I will say though that is where science usually fails, and there is alot of work within science to change this that, 1 pscyology test/experiment isn't a fact make, or that we should question claims that are really old more often, as mentioned above there are many examples of this.

Lemmings
praying mantis
komodo dragon
wolf packs

where it was a limitation of their studying, or one persons thoughts of, "This is X." and not being questioned.

Going by its method and purpose, I never expected science to be prescriptive.

If not prescriptive what is it's purpose? Don't scientists create drugs for the very purpose of being prescribed? (Of course there are devils in those details.)

Physicians prescribe drugs for specific purposes. The scientists doing the development of drugs, are looking to combine chemicals for a certain effect. Much of their research and development, never gets fda approved.

Not advocating for necessary changes, imo.

Clearly seeing the Creation which expresses the attributes, character, and nature of God, but denying the Creator. This is called "so-called Science".... "seeking knowledge of the Universe while suppressing the Knowledge of God" It's not true, complete, whole, pure Science. It's foolishness.

And what are your science credentials?
