  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Millennium (also known as the Millennial Kingdom) is the 1,000-year reign of Jesus after the Tribulation and before all the people of the world are sent to either heaven or hell. Jesus will reign as king over Israel as well as all the nations of the world (Isaiah 2:4; 42:1). The world will live in peace (Isaiah 11:6–9; 32:18), Satan will be bound (Revelation 20:1–3), and, at the beginning, everyone will worship God (Isaiah 2:2–3). The purpose of the 1,000-year reign is to fulfill promises God made to the world that cannot be fulfilled while Satan is free and humans have political authority. Some of these promises, called covenants, were given specifically to Israel. Others were given to Jesus, the nations of the world, and creation. All of these will be fulfilled during Jesus’ 1,000-year reign.

The main purpose of Jesus’ 1,000-year reign is to fulfill the prophecies given to Israel and the promises made to Jesus, the nations, and the whole earth. God’s covenants were voluntary and one-sided. He promised He would bless Israel and restore the world in specific ways, and He will.
Quasar02
Since we know the Millenial reign starts when Christ returns to earth and resurrects the 144,000 end-time jewish martyrs, we see that the Millenial reign is both a fulfillment of prophesy to the Jewish remnant and a reward for end-time Christian martyrdom. It is also God's way of saying "You've had the Anti-Christ run things. Now have my Son." It's God's way of giving the earth the choice of who to partake of.... Jesus or the Anti-Christ. God or Satan. The Millenium is also a way to refine humanity, since Satan will be locked up, unable to deceive the Millenial nations, yet the descendents of the 144,000 will not all chose Christ, even though they will have lived with Him in person on Earth. These are those who Satan deceives at the end of the 1,000 years and brings to encircle the camp of Jesus Christ and are destroyed by fire from Heaven before the Great White throne judgement.
I am attaching a poll thread to this one and if anyone wants me to add more options, please let me know.

Does Christ literally come down to earth and bodily reign on the earth for a 1000yrs?

Revelation 20
1 And I saw a Messenger descending out of the heaven, having the key of the Abyss, and a great chain on the hand of Him.
2 And He seizes the Dragon, the Serpent, the Ancient-one, who is a Devil/Slanderer and the Satan/Adversary, and binds Him a thousands years.
3 And He casts Him into the Abyss, and locks and seals over Him, that no He should be deceiving the Nations, until should be being finished the thousands years.
After these, it is binding Him to be loosed a little time
4 And I saw thrones, and they are seated upon them, and judgment was given to them, and the souls of those having been beheaded/executed<3990> because of the testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and who did not bow before the beast, nor it's image, and did not receive the mark upon the forehead and upon their hand,
and they live and reign with the Christ a thousand years;
5 And the rest of the dead not live until should be being finished<5055> the thousand years. This the first resurrection/standing up<386> .
6 Happy/blessed<3107> and holy the one having part in the first resurrection/standing up, over these the second death not is having authority,
but they shall be priests of the God and of the Christ,
and shall be reigning with Him the thousand years.

No. The Church abandoned chiliasm well over one thousand years ago. The Orthodox Church refers to the teaching of the millennium as an error. The Roman Church calls it "an unsafe doctrine to teach".

Throughout the Old Testament the Throne of David is an actual, physical, earthly throne, with promises throughout that it would endure forever.

Then in Luke 1:32 God says He will give that same throne to his Son to reign over the house of Jacob forever.

Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones<2362> and they are seated upon them, and judgment was given to them.................
=========================
The Gospels of Mark and John do not have the word for throne/s.

G2362 θρόνος (thronos) occurs 61 times in 50 verses

Verses used outside of Revelation:

Luk 1

32 “He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.
52 He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
And exalted the lowly.

Mat 5:34
“But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God’s throne;
Mat 19:28
So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory,
you
who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Luk 22:30

“that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom,
and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

Mat 23:22

“And he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by Him who sits on it.
Mat 25:31
“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.
Act 2:30
“Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne,[fn]
Act 7:49
‘Heaven is My throne,
And earth
is My footstool.
What house will you build for Me? says the LORD,
Or what is the place of My rest?

Col 1:16
For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
Heb 1:8
But to the Son He says:
Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;
A
scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
Heb 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Heb 8:1
Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,
Heb 12:2
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
================================================

The exact form of the Greek word G2362 used in Revelation 20:4 is used in 3 other verses of the NT.
I find doing this to be helpful in harmonizing or finding similar phrases used.

Mat 19:28
So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Rev 4:4
Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads.

Rev 11:16
And the twenty-four elders who sat before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God,

Revelation 20:4
And I saw thrones and they are seated upon them, and judgment was given to them.................

That's what His Word and His Spirit say, yes.

Currently God the Father's Kingdom is known to Jesus' disciples already. We don't have to wait to be saved from the enemy's kingdom or the power or the world and
to be free from the power of sin and of death. Jesus already overcame the world and the enemy. The enemy just gets to 'rule' the world until Jesus returns, as written all through Scripture, in perfect harmony with all Scripture, with God's Plan, and God's Purpose, and God's Spirit.

Everyone can read it for themselves, usually. It is clear, not a mystery, when

simply read ...... of course,

men do get mixed up a lot, right ?

Luk 1:32

“He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest;

=========================
Outside of 1 Kings and 2 Chronicles, the phrase "throne/s of David occurs 1 each in Psalms and Isaiah, and the rest in Jeremiah in the OT.

Strong's Concordance with Hebrew and Greek Lexicon
"throne/s david"

Psa 122:5
For thrones are set there for judgment,
The thrones of the house of David.
Psa 132:11
The LORD has sworn in truth to David; He will not turn from it:
“I will set upon your throne the fruit of your body.

Isa 9:7

Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Jer 17:25

“then shall enter the gates of this city kings and princes sitting on the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they and their princes, accompanied by the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and this city shall remain forever.

Jer 22

2 “and say, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, you who sit on the throne of David,
you and your servants and your people who enter these gates!
4 “For if you indeed do this thing, then shall enter the gates of this house, riding on horses and in chariots,
accompanied by servants and people, kings who sit on the throne of David.
30 Thus says the LORD:
‘Write this man down as childless, A man who shall not prosper in his days;
For none of his descendants shall prosper, Sitting on the throne of David, And ruling anymore in Judah.' ”

Jer 29:16

therefore thus says the LORD concerning the king who sits on the throne of David, concerning all the people who dwell in this city, and concerning your brethren who have not gone out with you into captivity—

Jer 33:17

17 “For thus says the LORD: ‘David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel;
21 ‘then My covenant may also be broken with David My servant, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne, and with the Levites, the priests, My ministers.

Jer 36:30
‘Therefore thus says the LORD concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah:
“He shall have no one to sit on the throne of David, and his dead body shall be cast out to the heat of the day and the frost of the night.

Revelation 20:4-6 "reign with Christ a 1000yrs"

Commentary

The "Millennial Reign" of Christ   |  Study Archive @ PreteristArchive.com - The Internet's Only Balanced Look at Preterism

Hampden-Cook on Millennium | Concerning the Millennium | A Dissuasive From the Errors of the Time - The thousand years of Christ his visible Reign upon earth, is against Scripture | Millennium | History of Millennialism | Chiliasm in the Early Church | Christian Millennial Expectations through the centuries "the 1,000 is not to be taken literally, but figuratively, and the millennial kingdom is already alive in the Christian Church. This means that all the events described in Revelation had already taken place"

Catechism of the Catholic Church :
"The Church has rejected even modified forms of this falsification of the kingdom to come under the name of millenarianism"

"In the age of Constantine, however, a radical change took place in this belief. After Christianity, contrary to all expectation, triumphed in the Roman empire, and was embraced by the Caesars themselves, the millennial reign, instead of being anxiously waited and prayed for, began to be dated either from the first appearance of Christ, or from the conversion of Constantine, and to be regarded as realized in the glory of the dominant imperial state-church.
From that time chiliasm, not indeed in its essence, as the hope of a golden age of the church on earth, and of a great sabbath of the world after the hard labor of the world's history, but in its distorted Ebionistic form, took its place among the heresies, and was rejected subsequently even by the Protestant reformers as a Jewish dream." (Schaff's History, pg. 299-301)
