Can women wear pants?

I know that some Christian denominations do not let women wear pants and I was wondering where that was found in the Bible. I've tried research but haven't gotten a clear answer.

Well, let's say women never wore pants before in our culture...I can see some using Deuteronomy 22:5. Usually FBC are those that place rules on such things.

Thank you so much for asking that question! Most Christians would probably ignore this but I'm someone who since about 2013 have read and listened to testimonies of people who say that it's a sin for women to wear pants. Though I am a guy this topic has always seemed to get at me as there are many women in my life that I care about.

So, straight to the point: I will bypass all the testimonies because you've probably already seen and read them. The scripture used is the one in Deuteronomy 22:5 "A woman must not wear men's clothing, nor a man wear women's clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this."

This is serious because it has to do with your salvation, so I just want to say really pray about whatever it is you choose to do, regardless of what I say please.

My answer to the question in short is: I don't know.

I don't know if it's a sin for women to wear pants. I've researched and seen both sides, and as someone who is not a woman I don't know exactly what I'd wear if I was one. Who knows maybe I'd just wear skirts to be on the safe side, or maybe I'd wear pants on some occasions.

I was so curious and serious about this that I traveled about an hour by bus and car to a revival sermon of a pastor by the name of Pastor Kim Yong Doo, the very pastor that wrote Baptized by Blazing Fire where his congregation prayed for 30 days and encountered Jesus as well as were taken to Heaven and Hell. I know that in that congregation the women wear pants and I believe 100% that Jesus has spoken to them, though it's up to you to read and research them if you will.

Anyways I was so curious I traveled to Fremont in California and when it came time to ask questions I stood up in front of the whole congregation that I didn't know and asked the pastor if it was a sin for women to wear pants. It is recorded on this Youtube video at

. I asked the question at 1:20:35. The answer from him was no.

It's an old testament prohibition against women dressing as men. It has nothing to do with pants, as pants didn't exist at that time.

Its more of a cultural thing than anything else, and for that it wouldnt be worth trying to challenge it if people do choose to go to a church that encourages women to avoid pants. If they are teaching that as scriptural, then they are being legalistic.

The people who are against it cite Deut 22:5. Of course, it doesn't define which clothing pertains to which gender, it only seems to insist on differentiating between what men and women generally wear. The pants I see women wear tend to look feminine. If a man wore those pants, people would be questioning his sexuality.

The context of this passage is the second giving of the law to the nation of Israel as they were poised to enter the Promised Land. Deuteronomy 22:5 is an admonition not to live as a transvestite. This has to do with more than just clothing; it also speaks of a life that emulates in every way those of the opposite sex. Transvestitism was a practice of the Canaanites, and Israel was to consider it an abomination. We take a principle from this and apply it to our lives as believers, but we must use it in the context in which it is given and do so in relation to the dispensation of grace.

Man looks on the outward appearance but God looks on the heart. A person may be very religious and strict about the clothes he or she is supposed to wear, and still have an evil, unconverted heart.

When a person has a right heart toward God, then he or she will trust the Holy Spirit to guide concerning his or her appearance. If a woman's conscience tells her that it is a sin for her to wear tight trousers or jeans, then if her heart is right with God, then she will refrain from wearing them. But another woman's conscience may say that it is okay to wear any trousers she wishes and it won't be sin for her. If she is then judged by another for wearing trousers, then God will see that the person who is judging her is the person committing a sin rather than the woman wearing trousers.

Well of course women can wear pants. There's nothing wrong or inappropriate about that. Most of the ladies at my church wear pants in the winter, only switch to dresses, skirts in the summertime when it's hot as stew.

Yeah, I know there's a history behind why the Scottish men wore kilts. It had some sort of strategic advantage. Will have to look that up.

I guess wearing a kilt does convey some appreciation of history. Much better than going full-out Henry VIII. With stockings, an over-the-top ornate doublet, robe, and a codpiece. The height of 16th century manly fashion.

Of course women can wear pants. I've seen them do it. In fact, M'Lady is wearing some right now.
