I am curious about conservative Christians, so I have a few questions...

Do you keep the Sabbath?

What do you think justifies divorce?

What are your standards of dress for public modesty?

Should the sexes be mixed or separated in religious service?

Do you have television in your home?

Would you send your children to public school?

I am not Christian but I will answer my own questions. I keep the Sabbath. Only adultery or failure of husband to provide justifies divorce. Clothes should be loose fitting from collarbone to knees (at least). The sexes should be separated in religious service. I do not have television. I homeschooled my kids.

Yes. On Saturday.
What do you think justifies divorce?
1) Sexual impropriety - committing adultery.
2) abandonment by a non believer.

Not wearing clothing that shows off your wealth.
Should the sexes be mixed or separated in religious service?
Mixed.
Do you have television in your home?
Yes.

All 4 of our children went to public school.

I think I qualify as a "conservative Christian" although to be honest I'm not sure what it means. As in I genuinely don't understand it completely. I have some idea obviously.

Keeping the Sabbath: No. I haven't been a Christian that long compared to others and the Sabbath hasn't been mentioned to me. The Bible does say you can't use not knowing the law as an excuse so I will look into it.

What justifies divorce?: I think fornication or adultery justifies divorce according to The Bible. I think this is the only justification.

Standard of dress for public modesty: I'd say buy as cheap but quality clothes as possible. Properly fitted but on the looser side if that makes sense. Clothes should usually be on the traditional side. Trousers for men. Below the knee skirts for women are my preferences. I usually think the word modest speaks for itself.

Mixed congregation or not? I say mixed but again I don't know what The Bible says about this. I would not oppose it if it says we should not be mixed. My first knowledge of non-mixed congregation was seeing the beginning of the movie Sergeant York (1941).

(I don't watch movies anymore) so...

Do I have a television in my home?
Yes although I do not watch it. It just sits there mostly. Sometimes I watch sermons on it via a Playstation 3 YouTube app though.

Would I send my children to public school? No. I intend to homeschool although I am not married yet.

I am curious so if it's not rude to ask, what is your religion? I noticed the painting of Jeremiah on your profile picture?

The Bible doesn't say anything about it, so you have to use your mind to decide the question for yourself. Here is a current equivalent of what you saw in that movie:

The 'old' Covenant then?
In a sense, but probably not in the Christian sense. The 'old' Covenant includes the Ten Commandments and the principles of the Old Testament (torah) but not the laws. Christians mistranslate "ha-torah" as "the Law" when it really means "the teaching". The old laws were simply an application of the teaching to those circumstances. The old laws don't apply but the principles behind those laws do apply.

What about the new Covenant? Do you adhere to that?

I follow the Old Testament.
The New Testament replaced the Old Testament. The Old Testament could not save. It provided only material perks for obedience and threatened death or loss for disobedience.

No. But I give Jesus a lot of credit for speaking on behalf of the principles of the Old Testament.

Thing is, the old testament was all about the new! The birth of Jesus, etc etc...

And according to the Muslims, the Quran replaces both. There is no objective way to choose, so I choose the Old Testament. But I also attend mosque because I find that religious Muslims come closest (of religions where I live) to following Old Testament ethics. I created this thread to see where conservative Christians stand on practical ethics.

But salvation is not provided through the Law.

I don't believe in an afterlife, so I am not concerned. I know how our beliefs differ, I am interested to know what if anything we have in common. How much ethics do we share?

Motive is everything. You might think you are good because you do not do the same things "bad" people do. But this ends up in self-righteousness. Christians, on the other hand don't do bad things because God gave us a new heart that doesn't want to do bad things.

So you are saying that if you were on a sports team and you played the sport for God/Christ, you would refuse to play on the same team with people who played for other reasons?

Although I got this from elsewhere I have this quote in my mind. If there's a billionth of a chance of there being an afterlife and Christianity being true you owe it to your self to consider it at least

Muslims tell me the same thing. I have considered both Christianity and Islam. I have read the New Testament and the Quran. I have attended (Greek Orthodox) church and mosque. And after this consideration, I feel that the Old Testament is the best fit for me.
