  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Since 2009, the federal government mandates certain federal contractors to use the program. As of November 30, 2012, a total of 20 states require the use of E-Verify for at least some public and/or private employers. This document summarizes 2012 state legislation, Congressional proposals, and the 2011 U.S. Supreme Court ruling upholding Arizona’s E-Verify law.

Only two states mandate all employers to use it. I'm going to contact my state representatives to change the law in my state. How about you?
It'll be easier to just have Congress do it.

On Thursday, Orlando International Airport (MCO) became the first in the nation to fully implement a biometric entry and exit system. This tremendous development was made possible through CBP’s tireless efforts to increase security technology across America’s international arrival and departure points, and is currently being pilot-tested at 13 other major airports in the U.S.
....
U.S. Travel has been working on making biometric entry-exit systems a reality for several years, and commends CBP for its commitment to improving our airport technology, strengthening our national security and enhancing the traveler experience.

Biometric Entry-Exit System Unveiled at Orlando International Airport

Im not exactly following. I think E Verify is a good thing. I literally have OIA planes flying over my house. That began about 2 years ago, but got funding under Trump.

Which Republicans have been pushing for it? I'll send them a letter to encourage them.

Well that program is part of Border Patrol.

It appears Senators from both parties have submitted bills....yet not even a peep (or tweet) from Trump....
I rather NOT hear from him at all. The Congress just needs to get it done and he will sign. But I'm not sure all the Republicans are on board seeing what Grassley had to say....

It is our sincere hope that the administration and congressional leaders will commit to making mandatory E-Verify part of any immigration reform proposal.

At a minimum, any reform legislation should contain a permanent authorization of the current voluntary verification program, incentives for employer participation, legal immunity for using the E-Verify system, and information sharing between the Social Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security. Those steps — while nowhere near as effective as mandatory E-Verify — are at least helpful improvements to the current system.

Why should employers get any incentives to use a system that helps them to not illegally employ people?

?
Neither E-Verify or bio-metrics at airports have anything to do with OIA planes or the Border Patrol, I don't think?

Of course it does.... it's customs. CBP is Customs and border protection.

Here in Texas Conservatives want to spend billions on a state border patrol, but they refuse to implement E-verify because their business owner base loves cheap immigrant labor.

The Trump's discover E-Verify:

President Trump’s company plans to institute E-Verify, a federal program that allows employers to check whether new hires are legally eligible to work in the United States, in every one of its golf clubs, hotels and resorts, following a Washington Post report that its club in Westchester County, N.Y., employed undocumented immigrants for years.

“We are instituting E-Verify on all of our properties as soon as possible,” Eric Trump, one of the president’s sons and executive vice president of the Trump Organization, said Tuesday, acknowledging that the company currently uses the program only at some locations. “We’re starting with the golf properties, and we are going to be doing all of them.”

Advice to Trump: Forget the wall and remove the main incentive for illegal immigration: Jobs. Make e-verify mandatory for the entire country...

Why would he? It's wonky egg head policy stuff. It makes a lousy pep-rally chant and does little to inspire voters.
True, but E-Verify actually works. something Trump can't say about a wall. Plus he never said "Mexico will pay for -E-Verify to be implemented nationwide" so there's no dog whistle there.

It is number one on his list. He will get it thru tho despite opposition. Democrats need it for a talking point at the moment, but Trump will get it thru.

  1. Make E-Verify mandatory for all U.S. employers to eliminate the jobs magnet.
  2. Complete the Congressionally-mandated biometric entry/exit system to track non-immigrant visitors to the U.S.
  3. End the practice of birthright citizenship for illegal aliens and foreign visitors.
  4. Require state and local law enforcement to report affirmatively all non-citizens in custody to ICE, make ICE detainers mandatory, and require ICE to pick up and remove deportable aliens.
  5. Expand expedited removal to include all illegal aliens with criminal convictions.
  6. End catch-and-release of illegal aliens by requiring that they be detained until removal.
  7. Deny immigrant and nonimmigrant visas to nations that refuse to repatriate their citizens.
  8. Reform the judicial process in immigration courts, including restricting relief from removal, to expedite the process and reduce the backlog of cases.
  9. Restrict asylum to the internationally recognized definition of those who are unable to be returned to the home country due to a well-founded fear of (state) persecution due to race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.
  10. Allow Border Patrol access to all federal lands.
Interestingly, I don't see a wall anywhere on that list.

Some specific questions:

3a. While repealing the INA will do something about birthright citizenship, how does Trump plan to get around the 14th Amendment's Citizenship Clause?
3b. According to the link, "Eight percent of all U.S. births (approximately 350,000 a year) come from at least one illegal-alien parent, according to the Pew Hispanic Center." That's all well and good but logically if the newborn has one illegal alien parent, then the other is a legal resident and would therefore have citizenship automatically via the legal resident/citizen. How many births are the result of dual illegal alien parents?
4. Seems to touch upon states rights vs federal. how will that be resolved? It hasn't been so far.
6. Do we have the facilities for that? Of course, it also brings up the ugly specter of children being separated from their families.
8. Do we have the resources for that? If not, how will we get them?
9. What about those who face non-state persecution? Do we just turn them away and say "oh well"?
