Got into this thought by a post in another thread,
did not want to derail it so therefore this thresd.

"Where do they go?"

Was a burning question for me when I was younger.

When those in my nearness were not there anymore,

got different answers even lay in the grass for hours looking up at the sky,
but did not see anything.
So, was not satisfied.

Then it came to me that years ago on a trip to London I bought a secondhand book (1877)
called, "The Rev
C.H.Spurgeon his life and work to his forty third birthday" (long title)

Written by George J. Stevenson, M.A.,
In his preface he writes "opinions only have been excluded;
facts are both important and interesting."

To the point, I will quote from the book a piece which may be of interest.

"When I was very small boy" writes Charles H, Spurgeon,

"I was staying at my grandfather,s , where I had aforetime spent my earliest days,
and as the manner was I read the Scriptures at family prayer.

Once upon a time when reading the passage in the Book of Revelation which mentions the bottomless pit, I paused and said,
Grandpa, what can this mean?

The answer was kind but unsatisfactory----Pooh, pooh, child, go on.

The child intended however to have an explanation, and therefore selected the same chapter morning after morning..................

Well it would be too long to write out the whole chapter.

But it did comfort me somewhat, knowing that not just I had those thoughts.

"Where do they go?

Do you have an answer?

By "they" those who wind up in the bottomless pit-
Hope you don't believe the pit is a real location. The Church Tradition has established that hell is a state of mind for those who despise God.

No worries,
I suppose what spured the thread was the similarity a iof thinking.
The book in question has been on my bookshelf collecting dust for a long time,
but suddenly I was spured to open it and read a little.

I just finished a book "Reversing Hermon" by Michael Heiser ( Reversing Hermon: Enoch, the Watchers, and the Forgotten Mission of Jesus Christ by Michael S. Heiser ) that addresses some of those issues.

The Second Temple Judaism sects that revered the Book of Enoch and Jubilees believed that unfaithful angels made a pact on Mt. Hermon to breed with human women. After the flood these angels were imprisoned underground and their hybrid children became demons. Heiser argues that the New Testament can't be accurately understood without understanding these beliefs. These beliefs were the context of the authors and first readers of the New Testament.

That is a bit too much for me, I cannot handle it,

But found this note concerning Genesis 6:2.

With regards to the nephilim , while some do indeed interpret it as referring to angels,
it is only once they were upon this earth and assumed the characteristics of human beings - effectively ceasing to be angels, and thereby sinning.

WHAT? You having a bad day dlamberth. :)
It's been a couple of weeks of grieving the loss of a neighborhood child. :-(

When I saw your question about the Bottomless Pit, my thoughts went immediately to the 11 year old neighbor who lives 2 houses down from me. He's been in our prayers a lot lately. On Dec. 27th this child took his own life by shooting himself in the heard with a gun. Today is his memorial service and just happens to be his 12th birthday. With out going into his really sad home situation, I unable to think of a better example for the Bottomless Pit than that child's darkness and despair that he must have gone through.

I'm seeing all sorts or religious explanations for the Bottomless Pit in this thread, but I think it's really about Love...or lack there of. It's the lack of Love that deprives the Soul with what it needs most. And it's the monkey mind that makes it seem Bottomless.

The bottomless pit as I read it Satan at some point coming will be tossed in it..period. If one is asking about when one dies. The heart.. is the Fathers to see alone. Some walk this earth and have been always blind to the TRUTH..where Christ said..if you were BLIND you would have NO SIN..you say you see your sin remains :)

No one but no one as I read and understand is lost like..OOPS. They know that they know that they know. We that know Christ.. we die we go to the Father. Others.. wait..till this is all over and then stand before GOD to be judged. :) I do not in any way believe anyone is (Father forgive me) right now burning. Burning being tormented but demons to then be pulled out..to be judged.. to be tossed back in.

The ones doing the torment are the ones that KNEW GOD yet...freely fell and have done WOW so much evil for thousands of thousands of years.. to be free to torment those that never seen GOD and know nothing about how holy loving He is..

know the Father has MORE love then ALL of man put together and is a JUST GOD! He told Abraham if there are just 10 righteous I will not destroy/judge the cities. GOD never stopped.. Abraham stopped at ten. And then there as only ONE LOT where God told Lot "as long as you are still here I CAN DO NOTHING". Gee how RIGHTEOUS was Lot living there? HAHA...

Have faith... its ok.. and if this was NOT what you were talking about..forgive me

Another interesting issue besides the bottomless pit is "soul sleep". Some Christians believe that a person is dead until the general resurrection at the Second Coming of Christ. On the other hand, there are many reports of people apparently being helped by deceased loves ones.

Many also say they don,t think about it either.

If I have some kind of burial, I want to hear people say,
"Heh, look, he,s moving." :)

Principle 13,
I believe with complete faith that there will be a resurrection of the dead at the time when it will be the will of the Creator,
blessed be His name and exalted be His remberance forever and ever,

Dan 12:2,
"Many who sleep in the dust shall awaken,
some to everlasting life,
and some to everlasting shame and reproach."

There is also,
Death is the seperation of soul from body,
so the body goes into the ground and the soul departs.

At the resurrection the soul reunites with the body

David spent a lot of time praying about when it would happen,
But got the answer, "Sorry, classified information,"
