  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The title of the thread is "Are God's 10 Commandments Abolished?"
The short answer is no.

Let's stay on that topic. In regards to Paul, he explained clearly that it is the law that make us aware that we are sinning. The law (10 commandments) is the knowledge of sin. Read Romans 3:19-21
Not really.

While the Law gave the Jew the knowledge of sin, it has been replaced by the Spirit:

But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the [d]Spirit and not in oldness of the letter

But even the text you cite - Romans 3:19-21 - shows that things have changed: while it was the Law that gave the Jew the knowledge of sin, a new chapter has turned:

because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for [j]through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. 21 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets

When someone writes:

X but now Y

....this is almost a certain indication that X lies in the past. But the point is even more clear in Galatians 3:

But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. 24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a [ai]tutor

You say the law teaches us about sin. Well....

now that faith has come, we are no longer under a [ai]tutor

What does a tutor do? He (or she) teaches.

I will get to the rest of your post later.

Your not being honest.

Everyone can see that you are not being honest.

Here is Hebrews 4 -

Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:
“So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ”
although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; and again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest.”
Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said:
“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.”
For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:1-16

Where is the command to keep the Sabbath in Hebrews 4?

Your posting claims about Paul saying we must keep the Sabbath in Hebrews 4, but when asked specifically which verse in Hebrews 4, you can’t point it out?

This shows us you are not an honest person about the scriptures.

No mention of keeping the Sabbath in Hebrews 4. JLB

Apologies I thought it was in the link I gave you. It is in this thread as I mentioned to you earlier. I added it to your link which is updated now go and check it again.

A mistake is a mistake it has nothing to do with honesty or dishonesty. Dishonesty is accusing someone of having a known untruthful intention that they never had.

Your post above is made up and has no truth in it accept for the scriptures which I love and you can see in the link provided below.

HEBREWS 4
[1], Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

[8], For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
[9], There remains a SABBATH REST to the people of God.

Now notice Hebrews 4, verse 9: “There remains therefore a SABBATH rest to the people of God.” In verses 1, 3, 4 and 8, the Greek word for “rest” is katapausin. It means “rest.” But in verse 9, the Greek word for “rest” is sabbatismos, which is a Hebrew word—Sabbat, which means “the Sabbath”—combined with a Greek suffix—ismos, which means “a keeping of” or “a doing of.” Put together, sabbatismo means “a keeping of the Sabbath.” When correctly translated, Hebrews 4:9 should read, “There remains therefore a keeping of the Sabbath to the people of God.”

Yep lots of scripture here showing that if you do not enter into God's Gospel rest you cannot enter his SABBATH REST. v 1-4 is the context of the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH confirmed in v9-11

This unfortunately is not the Sabbath. The Sabbath is a memorial of creation GENESIS 2:1-3. MATTHEW 11:28 is in reference to the Gospel rest of BELIEVING and FOLLOWING God's WORD. God's 4th Commandment is one of the 10 Commandments that give us a knowledge of sin. There is no scripture that teaches Jesus is the Sabbath.
If you say so....

He is.

I have asked him to provide just one scripture where Jesus or His apostles gave us a command to keep the Sabbath or instruct us how to observe the Sabbath under the New Covenant.

He never has.

These people are totally brain washed, and deceive many people.

All he will do is just keep coping and pasting the same ole nonsense but never provides a scripture from Jesus or the Apostles that instruct the Church as to how to observe the Sabbath under the New Covenant.

HEBREWS 3 and HEBREWS 4 teach that none enter into God's SABBATH REST if they do not BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD (the Gospel).

Your post above is made up and has no truth in it accept for the scriptures which I love.

Your claim in your own words was...

JBL said: No mention of the Sabbath in Hebrews 4

This was shown to be a false claim with the following scriptures...

HEBREWS 4
[1], Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
[2], For to us was the gospel preached, as well as to them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
[3], For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
[4], For he spoke in a certain place of the SEVENTH DAY on this wise, And God did rest the SEVENTH DAY from all his works.
5,
And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

NOTE
: CONTEXT is God's REST from the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH REST OF CREATION (v4-5) and those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW GOD's WORD enter into God's SABBATH REST as GOD did on the SEVENTH DAY of the week. CONTEXT is GOD's SEVENTH DAY SABBATH REST and those who believe or do not believe God's WORD and enter into that rest.

NET Bible
Consequently a Sabbath rest remains for the people of God.

New Heart English Bible
There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God.

Aramaic Bible in Plain English
So then, it remains for the people of God to keep the Sabbath.

New American Standard 1977
There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God.

American Standard Version
There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God.

Darby Bible Translation
There remains then a sabbatism to the people of God.

English Revised Version
There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God.

Weymouth New Testament
It follows that there still remains a sabbath rest for the people of God.

World English Bible
There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God.

Young's Literal Translation
there doth remain, then, a Sabbatic rest to the people of God,

................

continuing...

[10], For he that is entered into his rest (v9 SABBATH REST), he also has ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
[11], Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief (Heb 3).

Yep lots of scripture here showing that if you do not enter into God's Gospel rest you cannot enter his SABBATH REST. v 1-4 is the context of the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH confirmed in v9-11

Hebrews 3-4 is talking about the Gospel and the keeping of God's SEVENTH DAY SABBATH by BELIEVING and FOLLOWING God's WORD.

"There remains therefore a SABBATH rest to the people of God. Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief" v9-11.

HEBREWS 4 supports the keeping of the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH by believing and following the Word of God.

Sorry JBL God's WORD disagrees with you

Hope this helps

JLB

This is simply a not true. Your question was, where did Jesus instruct us to keep the Sabbath. I write this to your shame and post the following proof of a post with scripture already provided to you that you choose to ignore and never responded to. CLICK ME HERE.

You ignore that the OLD Testament scriptures are the foundation of the NEW Testament. The NEW Testament is built on the Old Testament and together they are the Word of God which gives instruction to follow God. Everything in the NEW Testament builds on instruction already provided in the OLD Testament and is why it is written..

2 TIMOTHY 3:16 [16], ALL SCRIPTURE is given by inspiration of God, AND IS PROFITABLE FOR DOCTRINE, FOR REPROOF, FOR CORRECTION, FOR INSTRUCTION IN RIGHTOEUSNESS.

and again...

MATTHEW 4:4 [4], Man does not live by bread alone but by EVERY WORD that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

As shown in the previous posts God Commands us in the 4th Commandment (Exodus 20:8-11) to REMEMBER the SEVENTH DAY of the week because he has set the SEVENTH DAY aside as a HOLY DAY where NO WORK is to be DONE on this day. The SEVENTH DAY of the week is to be set aside to REMEMBER and worship the GOD of CREATION. NO Bussiness, NO Shopping, NO buying or selling, NO uneccessary domestic work.

Building on the OLD TESTAMENT in the NEW TESTAMENT .....

1. Jesus taught that it is lawful to do GOOD on the Sabbath? (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56)

2. Jesus taught that God's Sabbath was made for mankind and not man for the Sabbath rebuking the tradtions of the Jew in regards to their traditions and interpretation around Sabbath keeping? (Mark 2:27-28; Matthew 12:8)

3. Jesus taught that he was the maker and creator of the Sabbath and the God of creation? (Hebrews 1:2; John 1:1-3; 14; Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:16-17; Mark 2:27)

4. Jesus is our example who kept the Sabbath as well as all those who followed him (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56; John 2:6; Matt 16:24; Acts 13:14; 13:27; 13:44; 15:21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:4; Rev 1:10)

5. Jesus taught that break God's Commandments and teach others to do so will not enter God's Kingdom? (Matt 5:19)

6. Jesus taught that not a jot or tittle will pass from God's LAW until heaven and earth pass away? (Matthew 5:18)

7. Jesus taught that on the two great commandments of LOVE to GOD and MAN hang ALL the LAW and the prophets (Matthew 22:36-40)

8.
Paul warns us that those who do NOT believe and follow GOD do not enter into God's Sabbath rest because of their SINS and UNBELIEF (Hebrews 3-4)

9. Paul kept the Sabbath with both Jews and Gentiles (Acts 13:14-15; 42-44; Acts 16:13; Acts 17-1-2; Acts 18:4-5)

10. Jesus, Paul, James, John and Peter all ketp the Sabbath and taught there is 10 Commandments which includes the Sabbath and if you break anyone of God's Commandments you stand guilty before God of breaking all of them (James 2:8-12; Romans 7:7; 3:20; 1 John 3:4).

Why would Jesus and the Apostles give us further instruction in relation to Sabbath keeping building on the OLD TESTAMENET scriptures if we no longer need to keep it? (Point 1, 2, 3, 6)

Sorry JBL God's WORD disagrees with you

Yes that was my question.

It is to your shame that you don't have a scripture to provide us, where Jesus instructed us to keep the Sabbath.

If you have such a scripture please post it here and now.

I have chased your links and none of them lead to any such scripture.

Here is a scripture from Jesus about the Sabbath -

For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath. But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”
Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God. John 5:16-18

  • Jesus broke the Sabbath [according to the law] and Jesus made Himself as equal to God.

Now if you have a scripture from Jesus that commands the Church, under the New Covenant, to observe the Sabbath in a specific way, please post it here for us, as I have done, so we can discuss it.

If Jesus commands the Church to observe the Sabbath, then I will have no choice but to repent, and follow His instructions for Sabbath keeping under the New Covenant.

Thank you for admitting what I already knew about you. That is where you are wrong.
The Ten Commandments say NOTHING about believing in Jesus. They say nothing about love.

These are the commandments of Jesus - note the author
1 John 3:23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.

Look at Matthew 5 and see how he is adjusting the Father's commandments to fit in His ministry. "You have heard it said," "but I say"
.
These are the commandments of Jesus - note the author

1 John 3:23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.
In effect, you are saying that 1 John 3:23 = And this is Jesus's commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. , which is an illogical statement.

Actually, 1 John 3:23 = And this is the Father's commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.

Seems, you do not really know who Jesus Christ truly is. ...

MATTHEW.7:21-23 = I Never Knew You
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

The Ten Commandments were to show us our sin. Jesus TOOK AWAY our sin; therefore, no need for the law. Love covers all commandments. They are not eternal, but love is.

Hello Brother corinth, nice to see you. I had a post for you earlier. God impressed me to write it for you today.

Please consider this post linked here click me.

May God bless you as you seek him through his Word.
Sou
Hi brother corinth77777,

Please I pray that you may be patient and consider this post very carefully and prayerfully. I see that God is calling you through his WORD. Please take the time to read this post to you carefully, it will no take to long to go through these scriputures.

When we first come to Jesus. It is based on faith alone and also on all the knowledge that God has revealed to us at any given point of our conversion. After we come to Jesus by faith and recieve his peace and joy we are babes in Christ because we do not know much and at this time we are all held accountable to God for what we know and not what we do not know in the truth of his Word.

At this time we are to GROW in Christ to have a closer walk with him day by day. This is the provess of Sanctification and as some say is the work of a lifetime growing every day in and learning how to walk in faith in the KNOWLEDGE of God's WORD.

The Holy Spirit as we continue in God's WORD will help us to have a closer walk with Jesus as we learn of him through his WORD God expects us to change our lives and to live up to all the light he reveals to us through his Word.

2 PETER 3:17-18 [17]
[17], You therefore, beloved, seeing you know these things before, beware lest you also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.
[18], But grow in grace, and in the KNOWLEDGE of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

2 PETER 1:1-8
[1], Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ:
[2], Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the KNOWLEDGE OF GOD, AND OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST,
[3], According as his divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the KNOWLEDGE of him that has called us to glory and virtue:
[4], Whereby are given to us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
[5], And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue KNOWLEDGE;
[6], And to KNOWLEDGE temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
[7], And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
[8], For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that you shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the KNOWLEDGE of our Lord Jesus Christ.

now in times of IGNORANCE when we do not know any better as we are babes and children growing in the KNOWLEDGE of God's WORD, God does not hold us accountable to things we do not know and to things he has not revealed to us or has not taught us.

ACTS 17:30
[30], And the times of this ignorance God winked at [does not hold us accountable]; BUT NOW [WHEN A KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH HAS COME] commands all men every where to repent.

When God reveals to us a KNOWLEDGE of the truth, then he expects us to change [REPENT] and to BELIEVE and FOLLOW his WORD. At this time God has revealed to us a new KNOWLEDGE to help us to have a closer walk with him.

At EVERY POINT in the Christian life, as we grow in grace and in the KNOWLEDGE of God's WORD, we have a decision to make. Do I NOW BELIEVE AND FOLLOW GOD'S WORD? Or do I not BELIEVE God's WORD and not change our lives?

If we choose NOT to BELIEVE AND FOLLOW God's WORD or simply BELIEVE but DO NOT FOLLOW God's WORD because we LOVE SIN more then having a closer walk with Jesus until we REPENT and BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD we become "UNBELIEVERS" No unbeliever has part in the KINGDOM of HEAVEN because they have fallen from Grace.

JAMES 4:17 [17] Therefore to him that KNOWS to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.

If we reject God's WORD when Jesus is calling us to GROW in GRACE and in the KNOWLEDGE of his WORD it is the same as rejecting Jesus.

HEBREWS 10:26-27 [26], For if we sin willfully after that we have received the KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH, there remains no more sacrifice for sins,[27], But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

It is only as we CONTINUE in God's WORD gainig a KNOWLEDGE to Follow Jesus that we continue to be his disciples.

JOHN 8:31 [31], Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, IF YOU CONTINUE IN MY WORD, then are you my disciples indeed [this means CONTINUE TO GROW in the KNOWLEDGE of God's WORD, BY BELIEVING AND FOLLOWING God's WORD]; [32], And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

If we fail to CONTINUE in his WORD BELIEVING AND FOLLOWING God's WORD then at that point we no longer are his Children. Many Christians will be lost come judgment day because when God revlealed more of his WORD to them to help them to have a closer walk with Jesus they choose their SINS over the WORD of God.

JOHN 3:19 [19] And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men
loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

SIN is the breaking of God's Commandments (James 2:9-11; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4)
God's 4th commandments is not a Shadow law. It is one of the 10 Commandments that give us a KNOWLEDGE of sin. If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

Please prayerfully pray about this my brother. I believe God has written this post for your consideration.

May God bless you as you seek him through his WORD
Sounds like you are the one JUDGING my spiritual growth based on rather I act on keeping the Sabbath day on your terms.

But scripture says:

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Not true.

Paul teaches, at great length actually, how the Spirit replaces the Law:

But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the [d]Spirit and not in oldness of the letter

So we have every reason to be confident that the Spirit will prompt us to live the way God wishes us to.
Not true.

The Spirit does not replace the Law, as if born-again Christians can willy-nilly abolish or ignore the 10 Commandments and other necessary laws or the whole Law.

Paul taught that salvation could only come through faith in Jesus Christ, and no longer through the works of keeping the Law. Paul did not teach that the Law could be abolished or ignored or made temporary/redundant or changed. In fact, Paul continued to keep the Law.

HEBREWS.10:15-18 = 15 But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before,

16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” 17 then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” 18 Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.
