  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it even possible? the Left hits a new low

She has many supporters there, sad and embarrassing for our country.

Ah. So because she has supporters, she’s the left? Does that thinking work for the Right, too?

Isn't she the same person who was celebrating the cold-blooded killing of the most tiniest and helpless and defenseless and voiceless, and having a party about it in the form of a musical, sorta'?

We don't see anything like this coming from the Right, so I don't see the comparison?

The common messages that I see sent these days are --

Trump -- Make America Great Again.

From the Left -- because of Trump the end of the world as we know it.

I didn’t ask if you saw it. I asked if equivalency is okay? Would you want to be grouped in with someone offensive from the Right just because they had followers?

If she were atypical of the Left, you might have a point there. However, her stance has been echoed by all sorts of elected officials from the Left in recent days.

Are we giving these people far too much attention? I do wonder...

This person needs name recognition to sell her product - aka she's selling viewership of her shows, whether on air or in person.

To sell anything people need to have heard they have a product in the first place... in the case of Hollywood in general - comedians and actors alike - it's all about name recognition and current name recognition at that because people have short attention spans.

So we see there is a race to acquire the most media attention, and what's getting that attention today IS Trump. So a strong association is getting the same media attention - and a negative association is a strong association. People click on negative articles far more than they click on positive articles unless it confirms their own biases. (Entire studies have been done on this)

Therefore it becomes a race to out hate one another where concerns Trump. No big surprise there it's simple human nature. Hate sells.

So, while hate needs an answer I wonder if we give it far too much attention on the whole. All we do is click click click on the hate being peddled, buying it as if it's our next meal instead of the things of God.

Doesn't seem right to me.

Be careful of falling for your own stereotypes of the Left. It may cause you trouble in the end and spoil your plans. "the Right has all the guns" is one I am thinking about in particular.

If someone could show me something from the Right that compares to this, then we could talk about it.

My question is how low can they go? I don't think this is the lowest for some reason.

I study these things a little --my bet is that four out of five Democratic Representatives would have nothing negative to say about this insane comparison of Ice with ISIS by this hateful lady -- well, let's remove the word lady.

Oh come on! Not even a chuckle?
"Ice is". It's a pun! She's a comedian going after a powerful government agency. Nobody should be outraged by what a comedian says about a powerful government agency.
OTOH, Wolf isn't very funny. America needs better comedians to take on the powerful.

So, you've decided that we should hang 'the left' on a single individual, and you've chosen a comedian?

I suspect 'the left' will choose someone a little more serious to hang the right on. Like Richard Spencer, or the guy who drove his car into a crowd of people for Hitler, or Putin.

The internet is a new thing. People are still learning how to deal with it without bringing harm to themselves. Remember seeing a post in Facebook that seemed interesting, but you had to page through tons of links to see the whole story? Then we got wise to it (well, the wise ones did) and either don't click on them at all or, in the first page, realize, thanks to the "next" button, that that is what you are dealing with, so you leave the page.

And various phone/letter scams over the last several decades fit into this too.

The current issue is that people are too easily trolled/triggered. I am an independent and have noticed the nuts and fruitcakes on both sides of the political aisle. This woman is one of them so I just ignore her. Sure, she is strongly leftist, and espouses strongly leftist values and attitudes, but basically my response is in this sort of vein (this specific one only applies to one far left group that, fortunately, is imploding): "feminists are so cute when they're mad."

That statement is me trolling to trigger feminists, and it works really well. The wise and experienced ones will not fall for it, though.

We shouldn't either.

BTW, the master troll at this particular time in history is Donald Trump. We could all learn from him. It was the first thing I spotted before the election and realized the importance of, after the election. He gets the left to act-out or speak out in ways that make them look ridiculous to both the right and centrists, as well as thinking liberals.

But the bottom line is that when some hack comedian comes up with something irrelevant to make fun of a politician, I simply ignore it. I don't get trolled, and I don't get triggered.

I have often thought just how accurate the Word of God is;

Ecclesiastes 10:2 (NASB)

A wise man's heart [directs him] toward the right, but the foolish man's heart [directs him] toward the left.

How appropriate for the times and season.

Much love in Christ, Not me

Well, unfortunately for you, Trump has opened up this type of discourse with his inflammatory tweets and immoral behavior.
