  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Big difference here her family was also shafted. And I notice a lot of these types are not above getting their families involved, which ironically runs against their point.

I could care less if her family was shafted or not.
What does that have to do with using her official account, and essentially her position in the government, to talk about it.

I am going to honest when a lot of these involves family, then it makes them look less justified.

I don't think her family was shafted at all. The owner of the restaurant said that Sarah Huckabee Sanders was there with her husband & other couples who were of similar ages, that the reservation was under his name & everybody else had been seated before SHS came and joined them. No children were with the party. The reservation was for 8 at night. The staff called the owner when SHS arrived, and the owner came. She politely asked to speak with SHS in private, and explained why she wished for SHS to please leave. Everybody else in the party was welcome to stay, but chose to leave. They offered to pay the bill for their wine and cheese, but the owner told them it was on the house.

Regardless, SHS had no right to take to her official account about this.

It's hard to imagine that anyone here would accept the argument of....

"I refused to bake a cake for that gay couple because I find their political beliefs...particularly those regarding gay marriage....to be wrong."

What happened to Sanders here was wrong.
Maybe, but I have trouble feeling bad for her. This is a woman who has no problem lying to the American people on a daily basis because well, that's her job. I can't blame the American people, or some of them, for responding whenever they can, in whatever way they can.

I get the feeling that the "bake the cake" crowd won't be too quick in condemning this place.

And they should not. Whether it is Sarah Sanders or a gay couple, they should not be denied service. It's not like in either case Hitler walked into the place of business.

Was her husband made to leave or was it only her? I think legally the restaurant was within it's right to reject her. However, I can why the others would leave as well, if they felt like they didn't want her to miss out.

On the other hand, I do wonder what the "Jesus Would Bake That Cake" would think of this.

What if the owner of the business sees it that way? There was never any precedent that being a baker made you such an integral part of a wedding ceremony that you cannot in good faith give your services to what you would find morally questionable but that apparently is the basis of defending the baker's right to turn away a gay customer.

What if the owner of this restaurant genuinely sees Sarah Sanders as a modern day Joseph Goebbels?

I know... ridiculous, right? Just like thinking a baker is somehow condoning or approving of his customer's wedding. Like he would be personally held to account for supporting it.

Well first of all, nobody was made to leave. The owner asked Sarah to leave. Sarah said OK, that's fine, that she'd leave. The rest of the party was welcome to stay. So no, her husband wasn't made to leave, or asked to leave. He & the rest of the party chose to leave. Sarah, her husband, and the rest of the party got their wine & cheese for free. Now Sarah is dining out on this, giving us all the whine & cheese from her official account.

Does that make all the difference? That she was asked to leave?

I remember a couple of black guys asked to leave a Starbucks just awhile ago...people seemed offended they were even asked to leave.

She was being asked to support people who do.

She might say otherwise -- who are we to tell her what her religious beliefs are?

In case you ever, ever doubted that politics is their religion--doubt no more. Now, let's see them actually come out and admit it, hopefully when liberals start to refuse service to conservatives all over the place and one of these cases goes to court and they have to cite their Leftism as their actual religion.

The most interesting to me isn't that she was kicked out, a thing to which i am indifferent because i really can't generate sympathy for people like this, but the fact that violated ethics laws when she tweeted about it on her official account instead of using her personal one.
But then again this particular ethics violation has been prevalent in this administration who isn't against using government power/positions for personal gain.

bolded section submitted with only this comment: if you are not alarmed by the direction we are headed, you should be.

"people like this"

Also of note: using the wrong twitter account is a much worse violation somehow than being kicked out of an establishment. And someone agrees with this.

Okay. So there we are.

The tragic thing is they can't tell the difference. SHS is Hitler. Trump is Hitler. "Everyone I disagree with is Hitler". I'm not talking necessarily about stuff here on CF but the stuff being said on social media. They're working themselves into a frenzy, it DOES drive the narrative and make incidents like this happen--it absolutely does.

In 2018, if you say things I don't like, you're Hitler.

I just....I mean what can you really say?

Yep, it surely does make a difference that she was asked to leave, not made to by the owner or by police, & the reason that she was asked to leave makes a difference too. The rest of her party was welcome to stay, had their wine and cheese on the house when they decided to leave.

Oh ok...what was the reason she was asked to leave? I'm pretty sure she was a paying customer.

What's so bad about being kicked out of a restaurant? Is it as bad as lying for immoral administration?

I'd probably feel different if it was someone I cared for. It's just fun to watch this happen for it's entrainment value, if I'm being totally honest.

That's all this administration is good for. The lulz of it all. Every day it's something new to laugh at in America.

I remember some saying they should have just left and not made a big deal out if it.
