• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You've heard it from the man himself:

Donald J. Trump on Twitter

"...I have the absolute right to PARDON myself..."

for now, he claims he won't do it -- but of course, we all have the right to change our minds...

What would you say if he ends up pardoning himself?

If we did not approve of that, we would have not written laws that allow it.
This is not the first president to stir up problems.

Do the laws allow the President to pardon himself?

I wouldn't eat it, but know others that would, what if I gave it to one of them?
If its brown mustard the former president may like it, I know nothing about Sec Clintons taste in food. They would both do well to bring a sandwich with them as the puzzled law enforcement officer tries to work out how why someone with no warrants out for their arrest is turning them selves in.

There are no clear restrictions against it. Which, as I said, is becasue
the public has allowed the ambiguity to stand, not becasue this is new ground.

What if Obama and Hilary turn themselves in?

I am an Obama and Hillary supporter and I approve.

(of course, after trying to convict Hillary of... something... for the better part of a decade now and coming up with absolutely ziltch, it's only fair that she helps them at this point -- they need all the help they can get.)

So this is what Sec Clinton might look like with brown mustard on her face.

Do the laws allow the President to pardon himself?
"The President ... shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment." Const II.1

The clause doesn't seem to exclude pardons for the President.

"except in cases of impeachment..." kind of cooks his goose, doesn't it?
