California, Coffee and Cancer: One of These Doesn’t Belong
NYTimes said:
If a Los Angeles Superior Court judge has his way, California businesses will have to put similar warnings on something else that can be addictive, coffee. His ruling, which is being challenged by coffee producers, is harder to justify in terms of health — if it can be justified at all.

Can coffee cause cancer? Only if it's very hot, says WHO agency
Reuters said:
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) had previously rated coffee as “possibly carcinogenic” but has changed its mind.

It now says its latest review found “no conclusive evidence for a carcinogenic effect” of coffee drinking and pointed to some studies showing coffee may actually reduce the risk of developing certain types of cancer.
I'm drinking my coffee.

Also recommended, if you haven't already read it: the History of the World in 6 Glasses. Now that most of us in the developed world have easy access to fresh, clean water, we don't consider just how important these other beverages (beer, wine, spirits, coffee and tea (cola came later)) were and why.

Good article! Yeah, I'm on a ketogenic diet and have lost nearly 100 pounds in 4 months. Sugar is addictive and kills people. It causes obesity and cancer feeds off of it. Why are there no labels for that? Coffee is one of the few drinks I can have on this diet.

Good point. But I still hate the taste of coffee.

As a (former) smoker who can't stand coffee I have to chuckle a bit about this. On the list of carcinogens in tobacco smoke there are half a dozen found in microgram amounts that you'll find in miligram doses in coffee.

I for one am looking forward to coffee being served in branding-free packaging, with mahoosive health warnings, possibly banning its consumption in public places and so forth.

Or here's an idea, it could have prohibitively high tax rates applied to it? Who knows, if the tax rate is high enough then Starbucks might have to pay a UK tax bill that is at least vaguely appropriate to what its turnover was in the UK.

It's the main source of antioxidants for most drinkers.

It's pretty bitter; an acquired taste, I think. I adulterate mine with soy milk (it keeps well and no one at work steals it) and sugar-free cocoa.

Cite? Consensus seems to be that coffee is not carcinogenic and, in moderation, healthy.

Other people's coffee doesn't hurt you - it's not as if you were absorbing it through osmosis or psychic transference.

A case can be made for monoculture being bad for the land or that coffee plantations exploit the workers, but beyond that, you're being a little grinchy here.

Coffee is pretty good for you. There's some slight risk with the caffeine and hypertension, but other than that, it's fine, and as I mentioned above, apparently very good for your liver. It helps prevent liver cancer and cirrhosis and people who drink coffee seem to have better outcomes if they do get liver cancer or cirrhosis. And there's some evidence it's good for your heart too.

Again, that's regular non-decaffeinated coffee. Decaffeinated coffee doesn't seem to exhibit these benefits.

I've been following coffee in health news for some decades. In moderation, it seems to be good for you on the whole. However, unfiltered coffee (Turkish, boiled, espresso) can raise cholesterol in some people with a genetic predisposition. It can also temporarily cause an increase in blood pressure (the caffeine, I think). People who are very sensitive to caffeine may overreact to coffee and it could cause a feeling of anxiety (faster heartbeat, quicker breathing - mimicking the the physical aspects of anxiety, can trigger anxious feelings). Otherwise, in addition to antioxidants, it increases attention and energy and caffeine either has a slight analgesic effect or enhances other painkillers (it is sometimes added to aspirin to enhance the effect).

pls don't tell me it's bad again!
There's a judge in California, who thinks it deserves a warning label. The articles in the OP dispute that.
