I used to be a member here over ten years ago and things are looking different. There are some familiar names here still which is fun to see.

I used to be a moderator here and primarily hung out in the Southern Baptist forum. I usually found some way to stir up inter-faith controversy especially with members of OBOB. Evangelicals and Catholics mixed about as well as oil and water back then.

Over ten years ago I was in Seminary and went into ministry where I worked both in a typical church and on the mission field. Long story short, reason defeated my faith. I left the ministry, was essentially ex-communicated for lack of repentance regarding my lack of faith, honed a new trade, started a family, and eventually found my way back here.

There used to be an interesting group of atheists here. Not sure if there still are. Where you guys at?

I've been here a few months. I don't post too often though.

And if you don't mind and if it's not too much trouble I'd love to hear the long version of the story.

I am not certain I like the new look of the place. Does Erwin still run this joint?

I truly hope that you will one day find the one true foundation to be built upon.

I have my feet firmly placed on the firmament of reason and rest comfortably on it. I've never quite lost an interest in theology and religion in general.

I am glad that a spark is still there. I hope it is ok for me to ask but did you ever really believe you were saved at one time?

I will certainly post about it a bit later. Where do the atheists typically hang out? Unless my memory deceives me, there used to be a forum for atheists and agnostics here.

...did you ever really believe you were saved at one time?

Oh yes. Very much so. I often think about that and frequently recall three scriptures which I meditated on and preached on quite heavily. They are:

Psalm 14:1 "The fool says in his heart, 'there is no God.'"

1 Cor 1:18ff: "For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."

1 John 2:19: "They went out from us, but thy were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us."

I certainly struggled with it for quite a long time. Those are fun verses for the believer and apostate alike. Don't you think?

They hang out down south of the christian forums. There is a place specifically for them I believe.

Figures you guys would have us down "south." Into the depths of Sheol... :holy:

Ok if I understand right, do you think that those particular verses are not available to you specifically?

I didn't even realize what I had wrote until you copied that post. I honestly meant it is down below in thew bottom of the forums. I apologize friend as I didn't mean to come across that way I promise.

Oh don't be sensitive about it. I thought it was amusing lol.

Did you preach Calvinism and become convinced that you were not predestined?

Yes and No. Yes, I adhered to reformed theology. No I did not become convinced I had not been predestined. Though if you like to read Romans chapter 9 you might want to suppose I have been predetermined to be a vessel of wrath. Some here might even consider me as still being saved --the once saved, always saved camp).

I simply came to realize that faith is ridiculous given the rising tide of human knowledge and also that the true authorial intent of the Biblical writers has been lost. Looking first from the inside and then from the outside, I think this is evidenced by the fact that Christianity, in general, is shattered and in constant disagreement with each other.

Complicated, eh?

Welcome back! I too have returned only a few months ago after rediscovering this place after being away for almost 9 years. The forums sadly have changed much and many old forums have been removed or merged with others. There is now not much place to go for discussion unless you are a Christian (as defined by the website's statement of faith) or Jewish as they have their own forum...somewhat.

Nah, Not complicated, just an interesting case :] and I have no doubts that God is going to show you His truth somehow, Someway. You know that the bible has never been proven wrong, In fact all the time there is something that archaeologist are discovering to prove it. They just found irrefutable facts about Nimrod not long ago. :] You just present a fun challenge friend, In the end God will win out and you will be converted and stronger than ever :] I have faith!! :]

Um, who says nothing in the Bible has been proven false?
Sorry but that just isn't true. Many things in the Bible have been shown to be fictional. The Bible Unearthed is a pretty good book that explains a lot of the archeology of the Old Testament.

Erwin sold it as much as 7 years ago. After 15 years they all start to blend together.

Non-Christians can post anywhere but the Christians only subforums. Most are in the open Discussion and Debate section. General Apologetics was closed permanently years ago. Do not raise apologetics issues in D&D.

Atheists and now Mormons too were booted down south in the depths of Sheol to the DEBATE OTHER RELIGIONS forum

Actually, maybe Atheists can post more places than Mormons here...
