From the "How many people predicted this?", files: Franken urged to reverse his resignation

At least four senators are urging Al Franken to reconsider resigning, including two who issued statements calling for the resignation two weeks ago and said they now feel remorse over what they feel was a rush to judgment.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), who urged Franken not to step down to begin with — at least not before he went through an Ethics Committee investigation — said the Minnesota senator was railroaded by fellow Democrats.
...
“The most hypocritical thing I’ve ever seen done to a human being — and then have enough guts to sit on the floor, watch him give his speech and go over and hug him? That’s hypocrisy at the highest level I’ve ever seen in my life. Made me sick,” Manchin said
.
Now, Al Franken is the victim. See how that works.

Does this mean the witch hunts are finally over? What about Trump?

Franken's 'resignation' was politically necessary as a ploy against Roy Moore in Alabama. Sounds strange but I think it really was the case. If Moore won, a definite possibility, the contrast between Franken and Moore would have been stark. There would have been intense pressure not to allow Moore to be seated in the Senate. But since Moore lost, there is less of a political reason for Democrats to have to force Franken out.

There is a Minnesota groundswell to keep Franken as Senator. At least among progressive social activist types. Not the rest of us. And I think that is because he has been a loyal progressive political activist, and that is way more important to them than personal morality.

I think that the witch hunts will continue. The goal is still to take down Trump. When these senators finally figure out that keeping Franken will make the war against Trump a tiny bit more difficult, they will cry the crocodile tears for him but privately tell him he darn well better resign. Besides, his replacement, picked by the Minnesota governor is another progressive with impeccable Planned Parenthood credentials, having been a PP regional director before being Lt. Governor. They really lose nothing with Franken gone. They will keep their eyes on their goal, which is to take Trump down one way or another.

I'm a 'never Trump' guy but I find that the war on Trump is disgusting.

In some ways it is. I also find Trump's continuing war on common decency and decorum disgusting. The whole political spectrum at this point is all a dumpster fire inside of a larger dumpster fire which is sitting on a pile of manure. Which is also on fire.

Maybe even worse because the methane from the manure is burning. And taking down, I fear, democracy in America. Post Trump America is not going to look pretty. As if the past ten to fifteen years or so were not ugly enough.

Well, both big political parties failed us by putting up inane candidates who should have been repudiated. In Trump's case, he got lots of media boost until he clinched the nomination and then he got lots of media attack starting immediately after that. I do think his candidacy was a media creation. It left lots of Republicans, like me, scratching their heads. We tried mightily to block him at the convention, but it was too late. I have since left the Trump owned party and am living in exile from it.

Yeah. Someone did a report on it and Trump got a ton of basically free campaigning because the news just kept reporting on every move he made while Bernie Sanders was relegated to a few seconds of sound bites every few days. Even though, regardless of people's opinions of Sanders, he was talking policy most of the time while he was campaigning. But Trump and Hillary got all the attention during the primaries.

Hillary bought the DNC and Trump was the Pied Piper candidate designed to win in the primaries and lose in the general.

When Hillary was nominated at the convention, I told my friend I thought Trump had a better chance of winning than anybody thought. I was sure he tapped into a feeling that a bunch of people had that they didn't want to voice. Right or wrong, I think a lot of people felt that their group (however they identified) had been left behind by Washington and decided to vote for a guy that claimed he would be their voice. I think he is their voice, but I don't really think that shines a good light on them. Just my opinion.

He's not the hero we want, or the one we need. But the one we deserve.

For those who didn't ...

... you might consider voting in a better candidate to run against him next time.

I did. I told everybody I knew that Hillary was a bad candidate. She was bad when she ran against Obama, she was bad when she ran this time. Too many people would vote for the literal Christian Devil over Hillary.
