This hot on the statements of many that it would be a shocker if Donald Trump:

• Seriously stayed in the primary race, rather than using it as a publicity stunt.
• Stayed in the primary race until votes were actually taken.
• Won even a single state in the primary.
• Managed to remain in the primary race until only the serious candidates remained.
• Won the primary race.
• Actually received the Republican nomination (rather than having it taken away from him due to procedural trickery).
  
• Managed to stay competitive in the presidential race for any length of time.
• Managed to become president.
• Managed to actually be inaugurated.
• Managed to stay president for any significant length of time before being impeached.

And yet we're still meant to take seriously predictions that he will be removed from office before 2020.

Just get prepared to make the statement: "Sure President Trump may have won the 2020 with a bigger margin than the 2016 election, but it'll be a shocker if he isn't impeached within a month of his second term."

ALL of those other comments, essentially happened before anyone could judge his job performance or his capacity to do his job. If his approval ratings have tanked as they have, well, that at least SUGGESTS that some of those who voted for him are reconsidering his fitness for the position.

His White House is a constant dumpster fire they started themselves. His disapproval rating is high. Leaders of our allies think he's a dang fool.

But the thing is, it is true that many establishment Republicans would rather lose their office than get support from the unclean. That's fine. We could use a purge of establishment Republicans, so that they can be replaced by politicians who actually do anything of worth. The public has been clamoring for such a replacement since at least the tea party protests.

Well, you would be wrong because I know one, my mother, who lives in Huntsville Alabama. She voted for Nixon, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Reagan, Bush, Bush, Dole, Bush, Bush and McCain. She did not vote in 2012 or 2016. She did vote on Tuesday and it was the first time she had ever voted for a Democrat.

And conversely many people who never voted for a Republican in their lives voted for President Trump and others like him. This is apparent by the number of historically strong blue states that swapped. Even Minnesota, which didn't even vote for Regan, got reasonably close to a Trump victory.

Democracy is a game of net change, not touching anecdotes.

Oh don't get me wrong, PLENTY of people had the good judgement of character and foresight to recognize his complete lack of fitness for the role. But those people wouldn't have voted for him at the start moonlessnight and so they are TOTALLY irrelevant to the slowly lowering approval rating.

When you have that slow steady eroding of support, it is from a people who are slowly reconsidering their vote and support that was tenuous to begin with.

How Trump is going to win these people around is a huge question mark. WEll, theoretically. A good sized terror attack followed by a war would certainly be enough for him to get some traction back amongst those who love a "strong" war leader.
